Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

EA is handing out old online passes for free. Go to xbox.com or the dashboard, sign in and look up EA titles and many of the online passes are for free right now until they are out. I grabbed BBC2 VIP, some Dead Space 2 stuff, Mass Effect 2 Cerberus Network and others.
Nice! I need a Mass Effect 3 code.

eta - looks like they don't have the ME3 pass on xbox.com and I have to log in through the game to get it... not sure if it will be free that way though, I'll check later

I want to punch any gamer who has not played Portal.
I still remember you squishing me in Portal 2 when you "couldn't find the switch" before the giant block came back down. Or when you launched me into acid...multiple times. The co-op is awesome in the game.
Love it. Co-op games like that... games that can make you smile and laugh until you cry... are priceless
Did you ever play the free dlc added coop missions?
No, did you? We need to do it.
Not yet, I don't even know how long it is, I only downloaded it. We should play through it sometime soon.

I'm thinking I have to look into Dark Souls for PC.

So I see Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition on Steam. Is that the one?

Moobs... I may need some help over XBL if I start up Dark Souls again. When I quit I think I was frustrated not so much at dying a lot, but the fact that is was just so hard to figure out where the hell to go or what to do sometimes.
I just kept my ipad close by and referred to the wikia when needed. The game itself might have the least hand holding of any game ever.
I love the fact that this game starts you out right on the outskirts of that graveyard leading into the catacombs. As if somebody who is new to the game with a level 1 character has a chance in hell of getting more than a hundred yards into that area. And I am guessing that fewer than 0.1% of players would ever find the Painted World without the wiki.
I don't understand why that's appealing. It sounds like piss poor design
I certainly can't explain it and it is really a game you need to play to understand the appeal I think because like you said, just reading about it it sounds awful but it is one of my favorite games ever, right up there with Fallout 3, Skyrim, Borderlands 1, and Bioshock 1.
:goodposting: It should be said that while it is a brutally hard game - It's a fair game. You can get really good and breeze right through reallt tough areas if you are paying attention and on top of your game. If you let your guard down then that is when it makes you pay. 99% of the time you die, it's your fault.
This basically sounds like a modern day equivalent of Ghosts and Goblins. A ridiculously hard game with no mercy but is a badge of honor to beat it.

So I just tried to play Uncharted 3 multiplayer. I get prompted to purchase an online pass or some such. So PS3 games aren't free to play online? Between this and the bad wifi card in my launch PS3, I'm about to scratch Sony off my console list for good.

That was my first thought as well. My second thought was that I really want to play it.

A little late to game with this one (and don't know how I never played it until last night)... But I fired up Portal. And holy wow. I think I found a new part time mistress.
Portal is great, but short. Portal 2 is amazing and much longer. BTW make sure you watch all the way through the credits. My current ringtone is Still Alive.
I want more Portal & Portal 2. Awesome games but far to short.
I have Portal 2 sitting on my shelf, still shrinkwrapped since last fall.

You bought this used I assume? Sony games have had this "feature" for a while now.

I had to take out the ####### ####### ####### smilie because otherwise this ####### board gave me the "Sorry but you have posted more images than you are allowed to" message. ####### #######s.

Nope. Bought it new shortly after launch.

Don't know what to tell you. I bought my copy several months after launch, and I just played a full multiplayer game on the train level.

Passed on the ME3 DLCs. Appreciate all the inputs, but have already started the Cerberus Base mission, so to far along to worry about it.
You can always go to an earlier save. How many war assets do you have?
I started the final mission with 3393 credit based on 50% war readiness.
Okay, you're good then. Still the DLCs are fun.
As long as he has the extended cut installed.

HA HA HA HA! I keep saying that "I'm gonna play it tonight...I'm gonna play it tonight..." Then something comes up or I end up playing another game instead. Lately it has been Tomb Raider, BioShock: Infinite, and in the fall it was Madden and Black Ops 2.

I do, but may never see it. Have to admit, the final mission sequence is just so unbalanced, I'm getting pretty sick and tired of trying it. I get final missions are supposed to be hard. But I hate when games step up the difficulty to the point where you go the entire game just kicking butt, only to have the final mission become virtually impossible. I'm at the stage where I just want the game to be over with after playing through all three games straight. I just want completion. But now I'm getting to the point where I'm about to shelve it and just say to hell with it, and go watch the ending on video. I have a limited amount of gaming time. I don't want to spend it all on one small section of one mission over and over and over. And that's where I am at now. I'll see if the wiki offers help. If it does, great. If not, oh well. Youtube time.
I guess this is what I need to do. Tried it once, but there were to many enemies and I had to turn back. But apparently enemies will spawn forever. "Once EDI gives you the option to fire, ignore any enemies and just run for the panel."

That section was weird- ridiculously easy with the infiltrator (cloak) and engineer classes (sentries/drones) but was extremely difficult for me as a vanguard. It's definitely not unbeatable or anything though.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Dark Souls Madahot -
Not that you asked, but I picked it up last night. Plopped it in (and then had to wait a while for the 400MB of updates). Played for a half hour or so. Liked the dark ambiance. Suspense was good. Learned that doors, particularly when something is on the other side, are most often one way (as are portals).

Not sure if I'll like it yet as I'm not used to button mashing games. But I plan on trying again tonight.
Interesting, I never considered Demon Souls/Dark Souls to be a button masher. I found the fighting, while action oriented, to be extremely strategic and timing based. Rush head on in to even the weakest enemies and the game will happily show you the error of your ways.

Don't think of it as a button-masher. Button-mashing sends you back to the nearest bonfire.

As you're starting out, it's a good idea to focus on blocking and managing your stamina bar. Stamina is critically important in combat.
Wasn't trying to stir the hornets nest! Just that it has a bit more dexterity requirement than I typically play. Gonna try it again tonight once I get out of work.

They key for me was, I had the right idea once I realized enemies were never going to quit spawning. But I tried to rush forward and ran head on into four bad dudes. So I thought, ok, I guess that isn't what I'm supposed to do. Evidently, it was, I just picked a bad direction to go.

WARNING!!!!! You will need a control to play this game even on the PC - it is not meant to be played on Keyboard and mouse.
Everyone agree?
Absolutely, the game can be played with a keyboard and mouse but its an absolutely awful experience.

I use a Rock Candy gamepad. Cheap as dirt, only slightly lower quality than an actual wired 360 controller.

I use one of these for the 360 over the standard controllers. They are a tiny bit smaller and that makes them have a much better feel.

My only complaints:

-They didn't improve the already horrible xbox dpad design

-The stick switches (R3 & L3) are lower quality than in xbox controllers

-The plastic its made of breathes less and makes my palms sweat sometimes (more than a regular pad)

But overall I would gladly pay the like 40 dollar difference to use this over an official gamepad.

I'm sorry you're feeling that way but on some level I understand. I also just went through all three straight but frankly when I saw the end coming I went and got all the DLCs that I hadn't purchased yet because I didn't want it to end.

As far as the trouble you are having I am not sure what to say. I had a straight commando build and I think I died three times before I figured out how to best approach that mission. I think the most important thing is to simply keep moving and never stop.

If you are stationary too long the reaper will get you with his beam. I would also stay off the main street and keep to the cover on the corners of the intersection, the reaper beam doesn't seem to get you there. When you think EDI is getting close to finishing her task there is a spot in the building on the street corner closest to (and facing) the console that is a great place to hunker down and get a clean run at the console when EDI gives the go ahead.
Don't quit now man.

Also what level are you playing on?

Not sure what a Commando build is. I never read anything about builds. I just started ME1 with a soldier and kept it straight thru. I picked the powers that looked cool. So I guess I'm using a TX build for what that is worth.Appreciate the tip. Once I read the wiki, I realized how close I was to finishing the mission. I figured I was just going to have to get to the console with enemies spawning. I was just tired of playing at that point as I had been trying awhile. So I think I just got overly frustrated. Plus, frankly, my wife came home and was being kind of a B, which took me out of my zone. But once again, appreciate the tip on the good prep spot for getting to the console. I'll put that to use.Oh, an aside, I didn't even realize the Reaper was shooting at me. It honestly never hit me thru any of the six or seven tries at that mission. Now that I know, the damn thing will probably start hitting me every time!Edit: Oh, I didn't answer your question. I'm playing whatever level the default is. I never changed it through any of the three games.

Then when you take out a few banshees and brutes, ####### book it to the controls. I used 3 med kits on the way there. Keep it on one of your quick keys and just spam it all the way there. You should be fine on any level but insanity. Some extra tips as a soldier would be to use energy drain as your extra power. That takes away the shields of the enemy and gives them back to your shields. IF you just want to see the end, just turn the difficulty down a notch in the settings. If you're on default it should be set to normal (which should be a breeze if you're level 40+). And never stop moving. Once you get pinned down, Banshees and Brutes can tear you apart.

Energy drain is my extra power. I took Liara and EDI along so that I have energy drain, overload and warp/singularity available for fighting brutes and banshees. Works well. I can usually take them out fairly well. Of course, you can get overwhelmed in this battle since it sends so many at once. But I feel I have a good team for taking them on.The wiki mentioned that same area, the far left area using the high terrain. I'll give it a whirl, maybe tomorrow. To tired tonight.

Don't be afraid to use all your med-kits it's the last stage where you will need them so just burn through them.

Alan Wake is one game that I feel like I missed out on for not having a 360. I know it gets spotty reviews, but it looks like the kind of game that I would have enjoyed.

As expected, Tomb Raider is pretty awesome so far. My wife and kids are out of town, so I plowed through a big chunk of it yesterday, and I'm guessing about 2/3 of the way through the main story. The obvious comparison is to Uncharted, but this game was also pretty clearly inspired by Batman. It has the same quasi-linear structure where you move along through the island, you can go back later and explore for collectables/puzzles, and as you get more gadgets you can access stuff that you had to pass by the first time. TR is definitely in the same tier as Uncharted or Batman in terms of overall quality.

Two minor complaints. First, the QTEs seem really messed up. I think it's impossible to pass them without knowing what the button prompt is going to be ahead of time. Second -- and I know this is a dumb thing to complain about but I'm going to anyway -- the trophy list kind of sucks. Way too many online trophies and not enough for the SP campaign. How do you not have a trophy for beating the game on Hard? But you know a game is really good when this is the only stuff you can find to nitpick.

If you have a decent computer, the Alan Wake games are on sale for $4 on Steam ($3 if you just get the original game).

Wow, once I just went to the high ground on the left, this mission became insanely easy. I wiped out the enemies easily. Once I got the message that things were good to go, I just high-tailed it down to the console. I didn't even need to use a med kit.Is there a way to re-make the final choice? I chose to
wipe out the Reapers since I hate those biznitches.
I wouldn't mind seeing the other possible endings though. But it seems it auto-saved at the point where you can't just reload and try again. Guess I need to let the credits run and see if the option appears. Right now, they are merrily scrolling along.

Id just watch it on YouTube.

This guy has all 4. Look in the other videos to see the rest.

To me destroy is the only right ending based on the way the game has been throughout but that's just me.

I believe the closest save point is the part of the mission you just completed (getting to the console).

I saved chose to save the geth in ME2 and help them in ME3, plus I didn't want to kill EDI who was a good squadmate (voiced by Tricia Helfer and killing her would be just plain wrong) so I went with synergy instead of destroy.

I saved the Geth in 2 and 3, and thought about them. But it just seemed to me, after all I had gone through, I wasn't going to back down at the last minute and dilute the human genome with synthetic DNA. So, had to do it. I did forget about EDI. But I don't think I would have changed my mind based on her.Edit: After watching the other videos, I'm glad I chose the ending I did.

Unfortunately, I don't. :(
