Ryse : Son of Romeexclusive to the new xbox.. looks amazing
I think it looks horrible. I mean, literally, it looks amazing. But as a game it looks horrible. Almost too cinematic. Gameplay seems to be a string of attacks that inevitably leads to a quick time event. It would have been much better if those organic, varying finishing moves were simply triggered a different way, kinda like in Skyrim. But graphics and animation wise, it's a lot of fun to watch.

Also, I think the speculation has been that the 'Steam Box' or whatever it ends up being called would be more expensive than any of the consoles, coming in at $700-$1000.
That would be completely fine. As I understand it, the Steam Box is basically a gaming PC built for people who don't want to build or maintain their own PCs. Supposedly you'll be able to swap video cards, HDDs, and stuff like that will minimal fuss. In other words, the target audience is somebody like me who

  • Can afford a gaming rig
  • But is too lazy and ignorant to build one himself
  • And who likes to play on the couch in front a television with a console controller
Depending on how things shake out, I would seriously consider a Steam Box in addition to the PS4 if for no other reason than there are so many PC games out there. I just need to see how the box handles upscaling a PC game from a little monitor to a 60" tv.
:goodposting:

A completely customize-able PC for your entertainment unit. You could use it for strictly gaming as is out of the box but you'd also be able to load any software you want onto it.

Yes, it would be a higher price point but that is off set by the ridiculously cheap games.
Ya, I could easily see 1g for these things. I've never been under 1g on any of my builds. Would be stoked if Steam can do this.

The only thing I'd really need after that is to be able to work with word/excel/etc. on ipads. Would really clean up the PC area of the desk bigtime.

Quick heads-up for everybody playing TLOU this weekend. Apparently some people are encountering a glitch with the autosave. It occasionally gets caught in a loop and fails to actually save anything. If you don't notice that this has happened and keep plowing along, you could conceivably lose quite a bit of progress, since when you start it up again it will reload at the last "successful" save.

I'm sure this will get patched, but a decent workaround for now is to just disable autosaves and save manually instead. I'm OCD about saving all the time so this is no big deal, but if you tend to rely on the game saving for you, this could be a pain in the neck.

Edit: Actually from what I'm reading now, this is literally game-breaking for many people. In the sense that the same glitch seems to recur over and over once it starts. And there's actually no way to disable the autosave feature, and once it hangs on "autosaving" there is no way to do a manual save. In other words, it becomes literally impossible to save your progress. At all. I can't imagine how something like this slipped past QA.

Edit 2: Now it sounds like this is something server-side. People at NeoGaf are reporting that everything works fine as long as they're not signed into PSN. Speculation is that the game is sending data to ND on saving, and something is going wrong with the connection, causing the save to hang. If that's the case, this could conceivably be fixed without a patch. At least playing offline provides a workaround.

Edit 3: ND confirmed that it was a server issue. Allegedly it's fixed now.

If you go with (A), I won't be in tonight. I will be online, but playing another game. Hope to play Left 4 Dead next Friday though, if you can make it then too. Underhill will probably be on tonight, playing something.

Fantastic deal. I have 'em all already though. I got Uncharted 2 in Dprugby's PS3 draft a few years ago. He worked for Sony and had a stack of games to hand out, so he started a draft for I think 10 or 12 of us FBGs. Unfortunately, he disappeared from the board in 2011 and hasn't been heard from since.
I loved his avatar. :poursoutliquor:

I just finished the story in this game. Fantastic game. I want to complete the side missions since I do enjoy them a lot, but it frustrates me that in order to complete the Riddler mission you need to collect like 400+ tedious trophies. I've been collecting what I can figure out as I find them and I am only at 140. Not a fan of this new trend in games where they want you to go around collecting stuff.

Yep. That's my only complaint about this game. That and the fact that I seem to be completely incapable of completing the second set of VR challenges. (can't remember if that's the right name for them...the ones where you have to fly thru hoops and dive, etc.)

Yea, I had to give up on 100%. I got it on Arkham Asylum, and that was fun and not so tedious, but City's trophies were annoying as were the AR Challenges.

I remember that. I missed out on the draft, and I PM'd a few guys here asking to borrow games when they were done. Guys getting free games were ##### about sharing.

Bioshock & Bioshock 2

Gonna need to take a break from that series while I wait for the price to come down on Bioshock Infinite.

Yep. That's an amazing deal on an amazing game.
Crap, thanks Andy. I just started Bioshock Infinite last night, might as well d/l TR too.

Chaka--i picked up BI on eBay for $25. I should be done with it in a few weeks if you want to trade for something. I also have Dishonored (loved that game) gathering dust.

I fired up The Witcher: Enhanced Edition a couple weeks ago, but I stopped playing after about an hour (glad I did because I moved to Bioshock) because, while I found the game mechanics to be decent enough (although a bit perplexing with its rigidity in using the proper combat style and it didn't seem very difficult to defeat the first boss), the voice acting was so god awful bad that I simply couldn't stand it. I mean it was HORRIBLE to the point of laughable. The story felt childish and obvious (again I only played about an hour) If that is the type of story I can expect for the entire game I just don't think I can do it. What's amazing to me is that apparently the Enhanced Edition was released to address a lot of the problems with the translation and dialogue from the original release. I can't imagine how much worse it must have been previously.

Do I need to play The Witcher to really "get" The Witcher 2? Is part 2 just more of the same awful acting or is there a marked improvement?

I appreciate the offer but I game on a PC. I don't think we can share games.

I completed those. They were a total headache. I'm no trophy whore, so I did them because I thought I got another Grapnel upgrade. Nope, just a stupid trophy.

I just successfully had Best Buy match this in person. Make sure to show them that although Ebay is the source of the sale that Newegg.com is actually the seller and they should match as Best Buy is now price matching most major online retailers like Amazon and Newegg in an effort to prevent people from showrooming them.

Went to Redbox tonight to get Hansel and Gretel and they had The Last of Us to rent.

Bad mistake. I am either going to end up with a crap-load of rental fees or I need to buy this game. First 15 minutes are great!!

i need together used to the controls. With my lady friend looking for Robert (I think that's his name). Intense stuff so far.
Is it necessary to read the manual first, or can you dive right in?
I dove right in. Maybe I just need to change the sensitivity of the controls. That might help me more.

I waited and waited on Bioshock infinite - borrowed it the other day and I think it's phenomenal. I liked the first one but kind of thought it dragged towards the end, but I'm really enjoying this one so far.

Well it looks like The Witcher series gives the option to carry over character attributes from one game to the next so I started part 1 again, despite the horrible dialogue. It's growing on me.

Last of Us is admittedly pissing me off. Was doing great until I was stuck in a train or tram or bus station with a ton of clickers. I have died a ton trying to find my way out. I feel I've covered every inch of the place during my dozen or more deaths. But I absolutely cannot find a way out.

I made it up to the first rest scene I guess. After you beat the first "boss." Then it wouldn't let me out of that room. I didn't bother looking it up at the time and haven't played since. I'll pick it up again one day... maybe.

Didn't realize that Best Buy started matching online retailers. That's good to know.

There is a turnstile looking area that you will find that is actually a save point as well. It's not immediately intuitive but you need to climb that wall. Additionally, if you find a gift shop looking area with an ATM on the front of it, there's a combination inside it for the safe in the other gift shop area.

I gave up and watched a walkthru on IGN. The autosave was right by the exit. I never saw that ladder. I don't think I would have ever thought to look up there. I skipped the combo and the safe and all that because I was way short of shivs. And without shivs, Clickers own me. Never thought something so simple as a shiv would be so completely indispensable in a game like this. I am learning, if there is anything more than a single Clicker, don't bother. Just sneak through and leave them be. I think my lack of shivs may be due to missing a LOT of salvage as I go through the area.

I shived all the clickers in that area specifically so I could explore it and find that combination. Playing on Normal, clicker-infested areas aren't that bad as long as I have materials to make shivs, which unfortunately you don't always have. I'm worried that they'll be quite a bit tougher on higher difficulty levels -- I'm not sure if materials get more scarce as you move up.

So far, this game is every bit as good as advertised.
