Come to think of it, Starcraft 2 was basically just a Starcraft 1 remake too. Still a great game but I wonder if Blizzard has gotten complacent after printing money off of these franchises and Warcraft.
:goodposting:
Technically this was expected since Starcraft 1, 2 and 3 are suppose to be the same storyline from three different perspectives. SC2 was terrible compared to 1, I hope they do a better job with 3, which is suppose to be the end to the trilogy. If you play all three races in 1 and 2, 3 will not have any wow factor.

Your phrasing is very confusing, are you talking about the original Starcraft in comparison to Starcraft: Wings of Liberty, or are you talking about Wings of Liberty in comparison to Heart of the Swarm? There is no SC3 and to my knowledge they won't be developing one, the 2nd expansion is slotted to release in 2015 called Legacy of the Void, last I checked.

Heart of the Swarm was okay, brought excellent balance changes to multiplayer, the cinematics and campaign were also top notch. Thats one thing Blizzard always gets right, their cinematic department is top of the ladder.

Based gaming overlord Gabe Newell presents: SteamOS

They said they were going to compete with Microsoft directly, they said they were going to beat Apple into the living room, and I doubted them.

I've never been happier to be wrong.
what is a "living room machine", though?

and what kind of controller are we talking about?

Definitely excited, but those are two big questions.

They have been developing a platform that will be PC based, now using their 'SteamOS' with many features that will essentially make it an entertainment system for lack of a better name.

Essentially it will turn your PC into a gaming console, nothing specific has been mentioned yet but they are aiming to essentially take over all forms of entertainment. Talking like streaming television, other media streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, DVR, gaming, etc. They have systems in place already like Steam's "Big Picture" which essentially allows you to navigate steam using your television with a gamepad. Another feature currently in Steam are game cards, which are similar to achievements but they are collectible and can be traded or SOLD to other people on steam for money that can be used to buy games.

A feature they've recently announced is game sharing, anyone that has a steam account will be able to share their games with ANYONE on their steam friends list they choose to with the only stipulation being that they can't be playing it while you are online, if a person is playing a shared game when you login, it will prompt the person to save their game and then boot them out.

Another big feature is the steam marketplace which right now is used exclusively for selling and trading in game items, but will soon be allowing people to buy and sell used games to one another - of course all the money stays in your Steam account but you can use it to purchase anything on Steam with it.

As far as gamepads go, I haven't heard anything specific, in the early SteamBox development, they were talking about using slightly modified Xbox gamepads, but there likely won't be a standardized gamepad. The SteamBox will likely just be a SteamOS ready console for people not comfortable using a PC, or that don't have a high powered gaming PC.

One of the best parts about this is that they were developing it specifically to make the PC platform more appealing for developers.

All in all this is huge news and the future of gaming got a little brighter, I was worried that Microsoft or Apple might beat them into the living room, and they will likely still try.

I agree. Definitely rooting for them to make a nice splash here.

Ive been so busy irl recently I hadn't noticed that someone else released another demo of the infinite realities VR scans.

NSFW

They had done full body scans of several different models months ago and the quality was amazing, but this demo really shows off the potential that that one did not.

So I have to still buy and maintain a gaming rig to use this? Meh. Talk to me when they come up with a Steambox and I'll jump right in.

The original projected release date was this 2013 Q4 to 2014 Q2, I suspect they will release them at the same time.

Now that's good news. I've wanted to, but held off of building a gaming rig a few times. Just because of the expense and having to maintain/tweak it for various games. Looking forward to this. Depending on the cost, it could seriously compete with the Xbox One in my household.

Except the preoccupation with the guys. I guess the naked chick and the the thong laden girl with the incredible ### wasn't enough to interest him.

There are other demos that might be more interesting to you, this one was more focused on the tech - they've come a very long way in only a short amount of time.

The first demo, of only one chick in multiple poses: still NSFW

Obviously the implications for entertainment purposes extend beyond pron, but lets be honest here, sex sells.

So this weekend I finally finish the first real encounter with zombies (5 runners, one clicker) in the Downtown part of The Last of Us. It took me at least 75 tries. Good Lord I suck. :bag:

Love the game and ambiance. I figure there is about a 2% chance I have the ability to finish this, though.
Throw bottles to get multiple enemies in one location then toss a grenade into the mix.

That was the first big encounter. Didn't get molotov ability until the next one.

I think Half Life 2 holds up just fine. I think you spend a little too much time in the car and hoverboat thing but the story is developing nicely (after giving you virtually nothing to open with, which was cool by its own right). I am surprised by the quality of some of the AI enemies, some of them are superior to AI enemies in recent games.

 Hope you enjoy it. Play Episodes 1 and 2 after.

About to try to cure the genophage on Tuchanka in ME3.
You definitely going to cure it?

I  ME3. Been thinking about firing it up again.
Fired up ME1 again this weekend. This time went Infiltrator instead of Vanguard.
Infiltrator was fun. Basically a sniper tech specialist. The low health can be tedious in ME2 but it was still fun.

Wish my Xbox wasn't red ringed.

I like Half Life 2 a lot.

A number of retailers are offering Xbox 360 bundles for $50 off. Among those participating in the deal are GameStop and Walmart, while picking up a new Xbox 360 from Target, Best Buy or Amazon will net you an additional $50 gift card on top of saving $50 on select bundles. The $200 Kinect-less 4 GB Xbox 360 is not included in the deal, but the Nike+ Kinect Training bundle is, along with other packages that include games such as Darksiders 2 andBatman: Arkham City. The sale is for a limited time, though no end date is listed at any of the retailers.

How long does it usually take games to come down in price? I am going to sell my Madden to Best Buy for $45 today and am debating whether to buy GTA5 now, or wait until the spring if it will be down to that by then. I dont have a lot of time to play games, and expect that to dwindle even further. Right now I am enjoying MLB The Show 13 and should get at least another month of fun out of that, if not more. Then I am planing to trade in some other stuff as soon as there is a used copy of the Last of Us in stock. Then I figure to get some time sunk in that before using the gift card and maybe trading The Last of Us to Best Buy as well for GTA5. Reasonable game cost saving strategy?

So Valve made their 2nd announcement, it was about the SteamBox now titled Steam Machines, plural as they have said in the past, there will be multiple tiers of units, although they didn't mention if they are still planning on using modules to allow for easy upgrading.

They also announced they will be doing a beta test run of the Steam Machines anyone is eligible but you have to jump through some hoops to qualify and after that only 300 people will be selected. They announced that the beta test run of the consoles will ship this year and that "Beginning in 2014, there will be multiple SteamOS machines to choose from, made by different manufacturers."

Now for speculation about announcement 3:
-Half Life 3
-Steam game market/game sharing
-More SteamOS features

Out f****** Standing!

So with multiple tiers - like Tier 1 (high end), Tier 2, Tier 3, perhaps upcoming games would state they'll run on a each tier SteamBox at a particular quality? With potentially the low end one not being able to run certain games. And I really hope these are upgradeable like you mentioned. To be able to just easily swap a component and not have to worry about being Mad Cow and worrying about compatibility, drivers, etc. This is gonna be good.

That's the game changer right there.

So, just to understand this, these machines will run Linux and be able to run some games. But other games on Steam will only be able to be run on a windows box and can be streamed through the SteamBox. So for all PC games to be able to run you need two boxes?

What? No.

A steam box is not required at all. A Windows machine, and likely a Mac/Linux machine (with reduced compatibility) will all be able to run SteamOS, or alternatively take advantage of all the features of SteamOS and stream directly to your television.

Steam for Linux is already working fine with most titles and when SteamOS comes out they've said that 3000+ titles will be compatible on day 1 (I think theres ~10k titles on steam), but that they are working internally and with developers to make most if not all future titles compatible with both. Pretty much the only reason a new title wouldn't be compatible with SteamOS is because it was developed specifically not to work on SteamOS, which is unlikely even for games owned by Microsoft (who still license their games out to Steam). That being said, its a Linux based OS, steam will be developing patches constantly to make compatibility not an issue they want people to stop using Windows essentially while still supporting both.

The Steam Machine is just an entry level product to appeal to the console gaming market. You get the security of a console with the utility and customization of a PC. Open source development raises appeal further, anyone can develop for it, for free. The machine itself is meant to be cheap but still high performance, but upgradeable so that you don't have hardware limitations that consoles suffer from. Instead of buying a console every 3-5 years you buy parts packaged as easily installed modules.

For NCAA Football 14 players, are any of you into the Ultimate Team stuff. After doing nearly everything else in the game, I decided to try it out and I'm addicted to it. It was frustrating at first, but once I found out that I could instantly upgrade my team by getting a gold medal on all of the Nike Trainer stuff, it's been fun.

Played it a little bit. Did the first two vs CPU game challenges, then ran into one more difficult. Bought some packages, then freaked out when I saw that each player only had a limited number of games they were elligible to play. I figured I better practice more and play it after I was more adept and haven't gone back.

Are the Niki Trainer Stuff in the Ultimate Team section, or is that a different feature, but links to the Ultimate Team? Haven't done any of that.

There is a "link" to the Nike Trainer stuff in the Ultimate Team section, but it's also at the bottom of the main menu. Good luck on the Ball Hawk trainer. It's fun, but frustrating, as it requires 8/10 INTs for a Gold.

Also, I wouldn't worry about the limited game contract thing. There are extensions that you can get for the players you really want to continue using. Almost none of the starter players will be ones you want to continue with once you get better player cards to fill those positions.

Unfortunately, I'm not doing any of the stuff online. But right now, I have a team rating of 81 just from doing offline challenges and buying cards with points earned (haven't spent a penny of real money).

Our QB is Christian Ponder, and our WRs are Hines Ward, and a couple of stiffs I can't remember. My son tried a game online and faced a team lead by Peyton Manning and Randy Moss. I'll be staying offline for the time being as well.

Had been playing Kingdoms of Amalur up through last weekend. Digging it but not loving it. Skyrim meets Borderlands. However, on Sunday I was playing and I got killed (surprisingly as I'd been mopping up a lot recently). Turns out I hadn't saved in several hours and for some reason the autosave re-loads at a point after I was killed (after getting killed I left it on and went and did some other stuff and apparently in one of the worst design decisions ever, the autosave continues to run in that scenario). I likely won't pick it up again for a while until the memory of the lost missions I did fades enough.

The game was plagued with tons of horrible bugs and design flaws. Its a shame as they were a startup and invested a ton of money and time into that game and it failed completely killing the developer.

Not for NCAA but I got really into it on the new Madden and set up a team on NHL 14... haven't really cared about it since GTA came out though.

Funny. I got Randy Moss as a starter WR. I also got a freshman Peyton Manning from the Nike Trainer. It's likely that that's how the other guy got it too.

It sucks to see people take risks like this with big ambitions and failing. They brought in a lot of outside talent to work on the game, including Todd Mcfarlane as the art director.
