Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (1 Viewer)

I talked myself into buying a ps3 tonight - it came with the last of us and the newest batman game. I might try and sell the batman game for a copy of uncharted or heavy rain or something. I've been meaning to get a ps3 - these are the games I'll probably get in some order over the next year or so:

Heavy Rain

Ico / Shadow of Colossus

Uncharted 1-3

Journey

Any other suggestions? Maybe the MGS collection?

May want to consider PS+. Right now games like Payday 2, Bioshock Infinite, and Borderlands 2 are free. Every month there are new games. Shadow of the Colossus was free and may still be so.

Do you get past games for free?

I've beaten infinite and have Borderlands 2 on my xbox.

Valve launches Steam Family Sharing for All Users

Steam has rolled out its Family Sharing feature to all users today following its beta release. As the name implies, it allows users to share their game libraries with others.

To enable the feature, first set up Steam Guard if you haven't done so already and go to Steam > Settings > Family. From here, you can authorize your computer and users to share. A maximum of 10 devices can be authorized simultaneously for up to five separate accounts.

Valve has specifics about Family Sharing over here, if you'd like to read up on the literature.
http://www.destructoid.com/valve-launches-steam-family-sharing-for-all-users-271299.phtml
Nice. My son would love that with my library.
It appears that two people can't access the same library at once, but it should be nice for trying out games or playing during times when your "family member" isn't online. Perhaps we can get some sharing set up here too. I have a few people that I know here that I'll see if they want to set up sharing with first. Then the rest of the spots, I'll open to the highest bidder.
Bah. From reading more into it, it sounds like to authorize a computer, you have to log into it yourself. Which would mean that I would have to give up my username/password to others to log into their computer - and that's not gonna happen.
Where do you see that?

No, games rotate off the freebie list each month. If you missed out on one, you've missed it forever.

Tomb Raider is free on PS3 this month FYI. I assume it comes out on 3/4 but I'm not sure about that.

Playing the new Thief game. I was a big fan of the old PC games, and had Deadly Shadows on the original xbox (which I liked as well.) I've had my eye on this as a day one purchase for awhile, and the lukewarm reviews didn't sway me to change my mind. Glad I didn't - I like the game, despite some flaws.

A few impressions - first the bad:

  • The game is a little rough around the edges, and I've seen a few little glitches, like an AI guard walk in place, etc. It's not prominent - I'm about 5 hours in, and I saw it maybe twice.
  • There are parts that are a little linear and have hubs (especially the city between missions). Not really an issue - this isn't GTA, with a big open world to explore. You buy a Thief game to sneak through missions, not explore an open world.
  • The combat is not great. But really, you're not supposed to fight.
  • The cut scenes/voice acting aren't great. This also doesn't feel like a "next gen" title. I'm playing it on Xbox One, and it feels like a 360 game.
Now the good/excellent

  • The game has that "Thief" feel. Those who have played TDP and/or The Metal Age will be pleased with the actual missions / mechanics.
  • This is the best "pure stealth" title I have ever played. It really makes you feel like a master thief - from mission one, you are very, very good at "Thief-like" things
  • To give an example, lockpicking is really simple, yet still requires touch. Anyone can do it given time, but sometimes, time isn't a luxury. They really nailed this.
  • Sneaking and hiding in shadows are also very well done.
  • Doing things takes time. You have to open drawers, grab the loot, etc - you don't "automatically" do this stuff. It makes it tense at times.
  • In the missions, there are plenty of paths to take. Also, if you buy the right tool, the ducts become an option, you can climb in places if you buy rope arrows, etc.
  • Exploring in-mission is encouraged/rewarded.
  • Comparisons to dishonored (which I loved) are inevitable, but this is a different game. You don't/can't fight here. Fighting one guard, you can win. Two = you will probably die. More than two, forget it, you must run.
  • The tools / skills are necessary. I like that. You are encouraged to use your trick arrows/etc.
If you want action with your stealth (splinter cell, dishonored, hitman, etc), you probably won't like this game. If you are a fan of the old thief games, you'll probably like it a lot. If this were the first game in a new franchise, it would probably be rated a point higher in most places, and given a 'good first effort' tag.

Installing Metro: Last Light now. Yea, I know I could have gotten it last month had I paid for PS+. But I didn't, and it was only $2.88 with trades and a coupon.

I get annoyed at the Dishonored comparisons. IF you want to compare then, then say Dishonored is sorta like Thief. I know it's just semantics but the original Thief literally invented the genre of stealth gaming and proper respect should be shown.

Yea, I am a GIANT :nerd:

Let me know how that is. It was just on sale and I missed it. It had 5 stars but I don't really trust the XBOX360's rating system. IT seems only the people who actually like the game are the ones rating them. Tons of games that have 5 stars and suck donkey nuts.

I'll likely play thru Farcry 3 first. The install was more just to be sure the pre-owned CD worked.

The first content patch for Path of Exile is set to release this coming Wednesday March 5th. Like prior content patches it will be released along side two new leagues, one for softcore as well as one for hardcore players.

Ambush will have 'strongboxes' spread throughout zones that will contain much better loot than you would typically find, but will be guarded by tough monsters. The Invasion hardcore league will add a unique boss to every zone in the game, 60 some odd new unique bosses have been added in this patch.

The first of the two main additions to this patch are the new Vaal skill gems, which are rare variants of existing skill gems that must be charged by killing mobs before being able to use them, they alter the effects of existing skill gems in to much more devastating versions. The second main addition to this patch is the new Vaal orb, a new currency item that allows you to corrupt items adding unique proper0ties (such as white sockets that can hold any skill gem) to an item otherwise impossible to add, but once an item is corrupted it can no longer be modified.

This patch will also bring a passive tree change that has yet to be announced.

Idk about you guys, but I'm pretty ####### excited, haven't had an ARPG to play for the last two months.

I hate first person games but FC3 was amazing
I got really bored with it . You do the same two things over and over. Outposts and climbing towers.... That's it, that's the list.
youre ignoring all the main missions and hunting assingments. Plus the outposts are all different. One of them you can shoot a lock off a cage and let a tiger do its work. Plus the story was awesome imo

Starting out in Farcry 3, I feel a bit lost. I went in to the first mission to free Liza or whatever. First time, I thought I was doing good. Got a few stealth kills. Then some dog jumped me and everyone saw me. Blam, dead. Second try, I went in another way. Got a few stealth kills. Someone spotted me so I fired. I guess that triggered the men to rush in. Before I knew what was happening, got a message saying mission failed because all my allies died. Third try, I did absolutely nothing right. Got spotted almost right away, managed to kill a dog, nearly dying, and all the sudden I get the MISSION COMPLETE message! I was like, really? By far my worst attempt, and somehow I "won" the mission. I felt pretty clueless to be honest.

Yeah Farcry 3 actually got quite a bit easier for me as the game went on - you start to open up more guns and things just come more naturally. Just stick with it and open up some communication towers.

Should I just stop and hunt and whatnot, try to upgrade everything before going on to the Dr.'s house where Liza is supposed to be? You know, ammo pouch, holster, etc? Or should I proceed on with the story?

id get the ammo pouch and holster first. The game is annoying before you can start carrying alot of stuff. Dont even worry about the story at first. Climb some towers. Gain some xp by clearing outposts. Hunt and gather. Climbing towers allows you to see where the animals are located. Dont worry about upgrading everything. Thats not necessary right away. Just upgrade whatever you can to hold more stuff. That includes the wallet too. You cant upgrade fully right away anyway. Oh also NEVER buy guns. They become free after you pass missions. Save the money for ammo

Nearly all of the outposts have an animal you can release. Easily one of the most shallow, overrated games out. The story is comically horrible and critically panned .

Respectfully disagree good sir.

Thought the game was pretty good but there is no way the story is one of its strengths.

The bad reviews are somewhat earned, because we expected more from the franchise. For example, the linear city could have been so much better.

The missions are fun, though. They have that old thief feel.

What's the FBG opinion of the Last of Us: Left Behind add on?

I'm a big fan of the main game. Critical reviews of this add on are positive. But those aren't FBG reviews...

Anyone play it yet?

For anyone or their kids who are playing Lego Marvel, what character do you use for the flying races in the city? My daughter and I can not get the hang of it.

they are the suck. Not sure ill ever get the one that starts on the air ship and goes thru the city. I found galactus to fly the steadiest

really back into Diablo 3 with the new loot and paragon system. it's really injected new life into the game and the expansion isn't even out yet.

I used Iron Man for mine. They aren't much fun but I eventually got 99.8% on the game with one gold brick glitched which was good enough for the Platinum trophy.

I have played almost every Lego game they have made and this one, while so much fun, has more bugs, and glitches than all the other ones put together.

I am happy you got Platinum with out getting 100%, I have read others not able to get it with various glitches.

I've avoided D3 due to the early reviews it had. Been playing TL2 instead. Do you know how the two compare after the D3 loot upgrade?

Decided to watch this online and save $15. Good times.

Been playing many app games lately. Great Big War Games, Walking Dead, Kingdom Rush.

Farcry 3: Impressions, help wanted, questions.

Ok, first off, I'll get this out of the way. After a three hour session today, maybe four hours in to it, my impression is definitely "meh." I know there is a lot of love for the game in here, so I may just not be far enough in to it. Or I just don't get how to do stuff, and it is taking away from my enjoyment of the game. But so far, I am pretty unimpressed. So here goes.

First off, I am always running out of ammo. One mission, then back to buy ammo. Assuming I don't run in to bad guys on the way and get in a firefight, in which case back for ammo before I even get there. Would love to get a bigger ammo pouch. But apparently boar are about as frequent as unicorns on the island. I have gone to every hunting ground with the pig emblem and just cannot find a boar. So the constant returning to base thing is just sort of starting to suck. Are boar that rare, or am I just unlucky so far?

Along with ammo... weapons. How do I swap the damn things out? The store says I own an SMG. Great. I want to equip it. But I can't figure out how. If I own the weapon, where is it? So far, the only way I have found to swap weapons is when I kill a bad guy. I can't figure out how to just swap loadouts in preparation for a mission. I must be missing something right? It can't be that you actually have to take a weapon off someone to swap even though you already own that weapon can it? I am almost positive I am missing something here.

Lastly, what do map icons mean? Stuff is there, or stuff may be there? Or stuff is near there? I had an envelope and two loot box icons appear on my map. I ran over to the area because I really wanted to get the story on the Japanese occupation. So I get there... and nothing. I scoured that hilltop. The map showed me right on top of three icons. Never found a thing. There simply was nothing there. What's up with that?

Okay, that's about all I can think of right now. Any help or advice or whatever would be greatly appreciated. I was really looking forward to this game based on what I read here. But to be honest, it's getting close to getting shelved for something else.

May have to jump back on and give it a shot. I played after the paragon leveling system was introduced, but have not played since the new loot upgrade.

You can equip your weapon back at your base. IMO, the only weapon that is even worth using is the M1 with the silencer and extended mag.

There are animals in the general vicinity of their icon. Try scanning around using your binocular or whatever so you can spot/target them. Once you spot them the icons stay over their head indefinitely.

When you are scouting out the base camps, try and spot/target all enemies and be mindful of where the alarm is. If you alert them, a few always make a B line for the alarm and more enemies come.

If there is a predator animal in the camp, you can usually just shoot anywhere at the cage and the enemies are not always alerted and it will come out to attack them. This is a good time to post up near or in sight of the alarm to kill anybody running to it and you can stab a lot of enemies in the back while they are preoccupied with the animal. Going stealthy early in the game is far easier and saves you valuable ammo.

The game looks great and is fun for awhile but quickly get repetitive for me. I fell asleep playing FC2 & FC3 so many times Ive lost count. All the raving for this game even convinced me to repurchase it when it was on sale. I managed to muscle through 80% but just had to put it down before I died of boredom.

BTW - That huge map you're looking at?, yea, once you capture ll the outposts and towers.... you open up a new far larger map with....you guessed it, a lot more towers and outposts! yay!!!! More of the same!!!!

How??? I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how. And never could.
You can re-assign weapons and tools to different slots only whilst in the gun store menu by highlighting the weapon in the store and clicking on "equip" (the game will tell you which button that is). You then get taken to the equipment display where the weapon you're trying to equip will be in the centre of the display and you then highlight which empty slot you want to use or highlight the weapon already occupying a slot which you wish to replace.

It's a similar deal with syringes: you craft the syringe and then equip it to one of the two available slots
The Y button is only for quick switching between the last two weapons that you have used. To use the rest, hold down the Left Bumper to open up the weapon wheel and use the right stick to switch between all of your weapons. That wheel also lets you switch your secondary weapon as well: grenade, cocktail, mine, or C4.
