Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (1 Viewer)

wtf? maybe I have and just can't remember, but I don't remember ever having a companion in the game. I thought it was a new thing to FO when I played new vegas.

I am known to skip through important dialogue and options or maybe I didn't get to a location.
Nope I started out with Dogmeat and then picked up Fawkes. You can have two but only one of them can be a person as it were. There are actually a lot of people you can get as followers though.
ah, now that you mention it, I did run into Jericho in megaton last night. didnt want to run with a goody goody like me though.

I guess I assume companions are a matter of speech and karma levels then.

If you get to the part of the story where you can add Fawkes on it is actually bad karma not to do so IIRC.

Got Diablo 3 for 360 for $13 during Gamefly sale.

Also, is anyone playing World of Tanks for 360? I can't stop playing it. I think the satisfaction i get from brewing up enemy tanks is borderline psychotic, but it relaxes me. I feel like James Garner. From Tank.

So, I started up Skyrim yesterday. Looks great, was fun, but HATE the computer controls. I think next investment will be a controller for the PC. I am sure that I would get used to it if I really wanted to, but probably a bit too long since I have played a game with that type of controls on the PC. Played for about an hour, got out of the initial town and wandered a little bit to find another town. We will see how I do at this game - looks a bit more in depth than FO, and I am really not that great at video games.
I envy you. My first experience of Skyrim is among most cherished video game memories. I did some exploring around the first town, crawled the first dungeon, then met a bard in an inn who told me about the Bard's College. Thinking I could become a bard, I set out at level 6 or 7 for Solitude. What an adventure that was.

I recommend not looking at anything Skyrim related on the net. Just enjoy the initial exploration, beauty, and danger. It's so immersive.

You can pretty easily miss a lot of the companions in FO3. I don't think I knew you could have one until almost the end of the game when I found Fawkes. Never found dogmeat, and I think on my second play through I found some girl that joined me for a while, but not sure where she was, never met her the first time.

Not enough exploring I guess.

I am tempted to look at stuff, but this is probably the route I will go for awhile. having never played any of the elder scroll games, it looks intimidating with all the spells and stuff, but I assume having hours of wandering around the Fallout wastelands I should be fine for the most part.

was debating looking up is starting characters. didn't know if there is a huge difference for that too or if there was some more for beginners. I was going to restart to do some initial exploring, but will probably just wing the character too.

Whenever I start a game without wanting to use a guide, but still want to know about essential stuff I can potentially miss, I go to http://www.beforeiplay.com/index.php?title=Category:Games and look the game up. It gives you spoiler free tips on very general stuff not to miss.

If I remember right, the level of any given dungeon/mine/etc is set based on the first time you enter it. So I opened just about every mine door or whatever I saw right at the beginning of the game as a level 1 or 2. Made those things easy-peasy later on. In the end though, I was so uber-badass, I feared nothing.

F03 -

This latest run I went with repair, small guns, lockpicking, with explosives built slowly later on.

I never do speech. Not sure why as everyone else thinks it's so important.

Repair is underrated IMO. Keeping your guns and armor in top condition makes a big difference.
Speech isn't "important" but at several points it's a lot of fun.

Agreed on repair. Not only is good for your weapons, there's a few key things that require specific repair level.

I'm always compelled to put points in explosives (and perks) because I just hate weak grenades and mines. It's rare, but when I do toss a grenade I want stuff to get blowd up.

I started FallOut for the first time this weekend based on all the love it was getting here.

Pretty cool I guess. I like that it can be 3rd person or first person.

The shooting is kind of pointless though, right?

best to always just hit R2 and do the aim thing, right?
Using VATS requires AP then it needs to refill. While it's refilling you may need to shoot without it.

There are times you can have multiple targets and have to strategize your Ap: melee character running toward you - shoot a leg, nearby baddy with a gun, shoot an arm, distant character with a grenade, shoot the grenade. You may not have enough AP to use VATS to shoot or kill them all, but enough to disable multiple if it dole it out correctly.

Well talking initial setup there are the specials and then your skills. I shortchanged Luck down to 1, made Intelligence a 9 and put the rest of the points into Charisma, Perception, and Agility. I think in all these kinds of games it is important to have a high speech or charisma or whatever they call it. Unlocks too many options to ignore IMO. By the way if you go with Intelligence at 9 immediately go to Rivet City upon exiting the vault and get the Bobblehead to take it to 10. Then be sure to grab Comprehension and Educated perks. By level 5 you can have 26 skill points to spend every level up. Even without any expansions this will give you a good shot at maxing out your skills at 100.

So on the skills side make sure to grab the bobblehad off Dad's desk and raise your medicine trait. While taking the test I set myself with explosives(important in Megaton), lockpick and small guns. Repair is very important so I make sure to take care of it as I go.

The only melee points I get come from reading books.
Interesting. I always start out with fairly high luck (and then grab the lucky sunglasses) and high INT and Charisma (I'm usually a "charming sniper"). Then bump up other 'special's with Intensive Training along the way to hit specific thresholds (ie enough strength to get the Strong back perk, etc).

I used to have high perception but if it gets too high it's more annoying than helpful - I want to know if there's a mowgwai nearby but I don't need to know every ghoul on every floor of the five story building I'm in.

So the flash deal includes Papers Please and I snagged that (tons of fun so far - been waiting on this one). Also sprung for Trine 2 and Tiny and Big.

Darn you Steam.

That said, hoping for the full Civ V pack to go on super duper sale. :bag:

Some followers require certain karma (even neutral) - another reason to play at least once as a bad guy.

If anyone's thinking about picking up The Last of Us on PS4, the Amazon pre-order is now $50. Not sure if that's a sale or a permanent price cut.
I am definitely picking it up as I missed it on the PS3. I'm hoping my GF finds the story interesting enough that she won't mind me playing when she's over.

I definitely did this game out of order.

Found that bot at the factory. Thanks Nc. Went to Paradise falls to search for quatum. Talked to guard guy and accepted the mission to capture VIPs for him. Except that I have already killed 3 of them by mistake or on purpose. Oh well.

Went back to megaton and sold a ton of stuff to moira. Got all the house items plus a theme all her ammo and medicine. Get rid tons of guns and clothes. And made about a grand on top of it. I have so many stimulus packs and blood bags now that I don't need to carry any food. So even with weapons I'm only carrying like 90 pounds to start out.

SimFalloutShopping is a fun game.

Assassin creed unity. No competitive multiplayer, 4 player open world coop, and back to the old cities ala French Revolution. ####### sign me up!

you got a fat load of nerve bringing up something not Fallout related
Yea, I really don't understand why someone didn't break out a Fallout thread as much as it is being discussed. Heck, Demon's Souls is old and we revived that thread, and it's barely two pages. I realize FO is all the rage right now, but that's even more reason for it to have it's own thread and get this one back to it's main emphasis, which is to discuss what people are playing in general.

There is a lot of discussion that is non-fallout related.

But hey I seem to be a big part of why Fallout is getting discussed so just let me know and I can certainly not talk about the video game I am playing in the video game thread for what we are playing and looking forward to.

Why did I just know someone would get their panties in a bunch? Whatever, have at it. I realize it's pretty tough and can take a good 10 or 20 seconds to start a new thread.

Doesnt matter to me. Ive derailed this thread a number of times for mass effect. It happens.

I have started a ton of threads over the years. They go where they go. There is lots of talk in here about new games, games we are looking forward to, talk about the games we are playing, strategy talk for numerous games, all in all a nice general video game thread. Seems to me this thread is doing just fine.

Finished up Wolfenstein: The New Order a few days ago. It was pretty fun. It took me longer than the 20 hours it claims but even so it doesn't justify the price. At some point it will be on sale and it's a fun quickish type game. Story is decent. Allows for different styles (stealth, tactical, rampage). I enjoyed that the boosts/perks were unlocked by actually doing something in the game rather than XP.

7/10 and wait for it to be on sale.

Next up to play is Watch Dogs

On deck is Batman: Origins

For those that wanted to know, Skyrim is on sale now for $5. Skyrim Legendary Edition (includes the 3 DLC) is $13.49. Deal is good for another 22 hours (and probably after that too).

I've read that the PS Vita can do remote play with the PS4. Is there a remote play type of thing for PC? Maybe a tablet or phone?

Notice that timschochet doesn't post in this thread. Coincidence? You decide.

Also, there is an incoming patch and DLC for Resogun (PS4) out this week. The free patch apparently hits tomorrow and adds a ship editor (design your own ship and allocate stats accordingly) and couch co-op. The DLC adds a few game modes. That's pretty awesome support for a game that was free at launch.

The co-op is not campaign/story co-op though, right? Separate co-op missions?
I believe it's campaign co-op (although I don't think it will be forced). Each player will play as the main character, Arno Dorian on their own system. So basically, it will appear that I'm the main character and the 3 co-op players will be fellow assassins. On the other players' screen, it will appear the same for them.

Cool, I hope that's right. I've always thought it was a cop-out when games used "the story doesn't fit" as a reason for not having campaign co-op. Just let us play the campaign as normal, cut-scenes with one guy, etc and then throw the extra players in there during the actual gameplay.

Ah, my son would really like the couch co-op. Fun game.

Just bought Ducktales remastered for $5.09. Cause why the #### not.
Bought Terraria for $2. Again, why not?
A lot of people like Terraria. I bought it a couple of years ago, but I never got into it. But again, I didn't really care for Minecraft either. I really wanted to like it.
Bought it and Trine 2 for the kids, mostly. I played one game of Papers, Please last night and was pretty darn hooked. They really did something cool in that game.

So last night I sat down for a quick mission (yeah right) of FO. Decided to take the trek to the minefield. It was nighttime, and along the way I stumble past the junkyard and see some red blips and a blue one. The red ones quickly disappear and so I look down and see Dogmeat. Thought it was funny since we were just talking about it. Also was able to sneak up on Arkansas at the edge of town and take him out with a few shots of the 10mm. Nice haul from the houses in the town and getting the sniper rifle. Plus now I have my first companion!!
