Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (8 Viewers)

Ori and the Blind Forest - Very visually stunning game, definitely has a Hayao Miazaki feel to it. The story telling is also very interesting. Combat and movement mechanics are great too. However some of the levels are just incredibly frustrating. I must have died 50-75 times just trying to climb (and escape from) that damn water tree.
Best game I've played on the XBone. You'll get better at the tree on like your 7th or 8th time through.
I am kind of torn about this game. It is visually very stunning, maybe the most visually interesting platformer I have played.

The abilities Ori acquires are very cool and original plus they do a great job with delivering them throughout the game so the learning curve for each one is never too steep. Additional kudos for mapping the keyboard/mouse minimalistically for having so many abilities.

The story is well told and very touching and even heart wrenching at times.

The level design ranges from very straightforward to extraordinarily challenging, but they always provide you the tools to get past the obstacles and the save system is very robust so you can save often and on ALMOST every level.

That "almost" is the reason I am kind of torn about this game. There are 3-4 different levels that throw you into essentially a "race-or-die" situation. They provide no safe zones to take a deep breath and move on to the next sequence and each one requires maybe 30-50 different precise maneuvers utilizing a multitude of Ori's abilities. If you fail a maneuver you die. They are very challenging and a ton of fun, at first, but along with there being no safe zones there is no ability to save anywhere in the middle of the sequence so when you die (and you will die...often) you have to start back at the beginning of the sequence. It's funny the first 20-30 times but it wears thin after awhile and becomes more of an exercise in frustration than an entertaining challenge. I had enough trouble with the tree sequence I mentioned above but the final escape of the game was one of my most frustrating gaming experiences ever. I died well over 100 times. I walked away from the game three separate times. I looked online to see if I could find cheat codes just so I could bypass the ####### sequence and see how the game ended. I even penned a letter to the developers in my head telling them all the ways I think they could stick their heads up their #####. The only good thing is that it gets you back to the beginning of the sequence very quickly so you don't need to deal with load screens (if I did I would have given up entirely). Finally this morning I got lucky and beat it.

I definitely recommend this game but some of the sheen came off for me because of those sequences. As always YMMV.

So Star Wars Battlefront and Fallout 4 come out within a week of each other? And it's during my busy part of they year? FML

I've been itching for a multi player shooter and Star Wars sounds great but if you're not in these games when they launch you're pretty much ####ed. On the other hands, I've bought every Fallout on release day except for Tactics. It's by far my favorite franchise.

No way I can do both.
I hear you on shooters -- if I don't get in at launch, I feel like I'm constantly behind the eight-ball. Generally if I miss launch day, I'm going to skip it for good. Fallout 4 can wait, at least for me. It's not going anywhere and it will be just as awesome if I put it off for a couple of months.
I feel the same as both of you. However, I'll put off Battlefront until later and start off with Fallout. Given DICE's history of ####ting the bed at launch, this will give them time to patch things up before I jump in there.
I completely understand where you're coming from, and believe me, I sympathize. But on the other hand, it's not as if Bethesda has an unblemished history in this regard. My suspicion is that we're each going to be beta testers for the other.

How far along are you in the game? Timing is absolutely critical for combat since it allows you to chain attacks and use special combos. You will get destroyed if you button mash.
Not far. I'm where he tosses the prisoner in the batmobile and then the Arkham knight and the tanks show up. I can't beat his copter.
Zoom in before you shoot. Use your 60mm canon. And those battles are the hardest part of the game IMO. HATE HATE being forced into the car for fighting.
Thanks. Just tried it 3 more times and got smoked. Is there a way to go do another mission? This sucks.Edit: it's such a tease. There's this great giant open world game sitting there you want to play but you're being forced into the batmobile.
It only gets worse, unfortunately. After you press start game and it brings you to your save you can press L1 and go to a backup save. You will have to fight the chopper at some point, but maybe you can do a few side quests and build up you batmobile armor.

Yeah I am finally through what I hope is the final tank battle. FFS it was ridiculous. Took me an hour for one fight, never have I had that happen before in a Batman game.

Yeah if Bethesda is going to be involved there will be glitches.

Personally I really don't care for multiplayer. So I'll be all in for FO4.

Yea maybe this just isn't for me. I loved these Arkham games but this sucks. I'll probably just watch the videos online.

Yeah really disappointed with being the Batmobile "tank" fights. Give me 4 or 5 brutes, ninjas, healers and goons all day everyday. It might take me 3 or 4 go throughs but I'll get it. Not anything tougher than Azrael's final test.

It's crazy. You have to hit L1 to be in tank mode then R2 to shoot then hit the little toggle switch to move left and right and up and down and THEN the other toggle think to zoom in and out to shoot. You either have to be Ganesha or a 17 year old hyped up on Mountain Dew to beat this thing.

Am I the only FFA member who played and throughly enjoyed Alien Isolation?

Highly recommended to those who love slow burn suspense/horror games and are throughly into the Alien Universe. The game is very fatihful to the original Ridely Scott masterpiece.

8/10

And I will replay it on Normal. I played it on easy and it was quite difficult. I am moving on to the DLC Crew Extendable and Last Survivor which uses the original crew of the Nostromo.

Up next is:

Dying Light - Already 35% finished

The Evil Within - Going to fire this up.

Battlefield 4 - arriving today...ready to get into some chaos and destruction online!

In sports gaming news I am heading into my final 3 series in my 1987 NYY year one franchise. I currently sit 1 game out of 1st place (Boston is in the lead grrrr) in the AL East and am locked into the wildcard.

My 1991-92 Heat MyLeague on NBA2K15 is kicking ###.

And after free agency in the NBA is over we will fire up a brand new 15/16 Heat franchise in MyLeague with updated rosters.

I said this twice in this thread but nobody seems to listen. Completely changes the batmobile mode for me.

I want to play this but can't get past the "survival horror" aspect.

I respect the movie Alien, I just prefer Aliens. No guns and the fact I don't like crapping my pants playing games and I'm out.

MLB 15 -- Granted, I have it for the PS3 so it doesn't have the full pantheon of the PS4 graphic card and whatnot.

My RTTS 1B is now the starter for the Yankees in his second year. He is so beloved that they traded away Mark Teixeira. Good riddance. I'm happy with the RTTS gameplay overall and the level up system seems to be fair for the most part. So we are all good there.

I'm not enjoying the franchise option at all though. The interface isn't great and I would like to do a lot more with things like naming rights, prices in the park, banking... etc that has been in previous installments. It's not terrible, just not as great as I would like.

Is there any point to connecting the machine to the internet (haven't done it yet) for this game? I won't be buying anything in any way shape or form, but is there stuff that you eventually need from the servers?

Awesome!

I had a RTTS 1B drafted by the Twins. Two days before they called me up from AA, they traded Mauer for some pitching.

No way on Earth that happens in real life. Minnesotans would not forgive unloading their native son, no matter how much he has declined in recent years.

(Short note: I watched Mauer play high school ball at Cretin a bunch of times. I don't think he played a HS season under a .500 BA.)

No. You can play strictly offline and be fine.

BTW get a PS4 the game is even more mindblowing on the new console. The lighting and real time lighting is incredible. The ballparks are amazing. Just a huge upgrade in every way visually and audio as well.

MLB The Show is my all time favorite sports franchise.

Have either of you gone through the tank battle towards the end yet? For me it's not just the tank mode but the handling sucks and the camera angles are pathetically bad. You have two both of them suck for me.

Do you still get access to the same player/equipment cards and packs when you're not online?
No. None of it.

You need to be online to get packs to obtain equipment buffs and player cards for Diamond Dynasty. You earn stubs for playing offline but you can't spend them on packs or in the community market to obtain items for use in RTTS or Diamond Dynasty.

Also each day you log in to play their is a stamp card. on your 10th stamp you get a free pack.

So it makes sense to log into The Show Online just for the free packs and spending your stubs on the market or on packs.

Yeah, even if you aren't doing Diamond Dynasty (which is fun) the equipment that you can use in RTTS is a huge benefit. I got a pair of Diamond (rare) batting gloves that gave my player an immense boost early on.

I look forward to playing it but I am waiting for the price point to drop below $10. I have such a huge game backlog that it won't be a problem waiting for that to happen.

Ugh I beat it. Thank you jeebus and the people here with the tips. Going to the beginning and doing the training exercises to get power ups helped.

with all the Fallout talk, I picked back up my game of Fallout:New Vegas that I put on hold a while ago. I'm level 35 and have already spent 120+ hours on the game and I haven't even made it to the Strip yet. lol. these games are so ridiculously deep.

I was getting some pretty bad lag so I had to scale back and only roll with one companion (ED-E). doesn't matter as I pretty much mow through anything anyway.

No, I'm only about 25% of the way through the game, but so far I think I've only had to redo one tank battle because I lost.

Glad to hear you got through. I committed to finally beating Dark Souls. Sometimes I just have to put it down I get so frustrated. But this game is not going to beat me. So i understand where you are coming from.

If any of you have Portal 2 on Steam, I recommend getting Portal Stories: Mel. It's a fan made campaign that's free to download if you own Portal 2. You don't have to have Portal 2 installed to play it.

5 chapters. The first chapter is fairly short and you don't do much, but the puzzles start in Chapter 2. There's a bit of a story, plus different voice actors and new music.

IMO, the puzzles are a lot more difficult then Portal 2.

I just recently finally picked up the Bioshock Infinite DLC, so after I take a trip back to Rapture, this is what I plan to do.

I bought Portal 2 during The Sale and managed to play it up to the part where you got the gun (probably .01% in). Since then I've done nothing but run around in circles. I've even watched Youtube videos and can't figure out the trick to it.

The "trick" is to solve the puzzles. You shoot portals on walls to get through areas.

Good lord some of the end tank battles are insane. For me easily the worst part of the game and hate that you are forced to do these as parts of the main story.

Play Portal 1 first. Seriously.

Broke down and made a sony account for my PS3. Signed back into The Show. Got a Carl Crawford card and super duper RTTS sneakers that make my slow fat 1B run like a slightly thinner 1B. Ok I guess.

I want a bat that is on fire and when it hits the ball the ball screams. That would be awesome. Look like a comet hitting the upper deck at Yankee Stadium.

I understand that, and solved some of the earlier puzzles. But on this one, no matter where I put a portal, I can't get to the end of the puzzle. I just keep following that girl around to where I started.

If that isn't a joke, it's probably the funniest thing I've ever read on here.

I'm still just playing the hell out of The Show. I have 3 RTTS going - a starting pitcher, a power Right Fielder and a contact/speed Center Fielder. The Right Fielder is who I play the most. Made it to the bigs after Spring Training in his 2nd year but the Padres were platooning him and only giving him occasional starts despite the fact that he was tearing it up. After enough #####ing to management about playing time and getting a trade, they sent him to the Twins where he's a full time starter and adding some serious hitting to an already strong pitching rotation.

My Diamond Dynasty has stalled out because I've been getting crap for cards. Haven't gotten one good enough to put on the roster for a while now. Upside is that I've built out my customer guy by feeding him crappy cards to the point that he's the best on the team by far. May stop that to try and collect some team cards for the special players.
My RF for the Twins got benched about 3 weeks before the All-Star game in favor of a guy with a rating 15 pts below him. I think it's likely because of a couple games where I had an error or two and got picked off on 2nd due to controller issues (Was on first, pick off move came and was thrown over the 1st basemen's head. I pushed up on the stick to advance to 2nd but the ball went out of play and the switch to me being advanced to 2nd was so fast that it took my push as an effort to steal 3rd before the pitch - has happened multiple times. Along with the abrupt change in view when a ball goes over your head in the outfield they may be my two biggest controller gripes in the game). Anyway, the benching cost me my spot on the All-Star team in my rookie year so now I'm requesting trades again. Will be interesting to see if there's a notion of getting a reputation as a bad egg if I manage to get on my 3rd team in just my rookie year while leading the league in average.
My power hitting RF is still in AA. I HATE flyballs and most games I stink on D, though I was leading the league in HR / RBI until a cold spell that has dropped my average 30 pts..... :kicksrock: I think I'm in the mid 60s power, mid 50s contact, 60 clutch...and nothing into D yet. Overall 62. I'm stinking it up right now. Any suggestions?
Took me a while to learn to pay outfield. Start moving before the arrow comes up. The hardest ones are right in front of you (you start back but it ends up short) but everything else you can at least start left or right if the depth isn't clearn yet. Then push your stick in the direction of the arrow and when it turns green ease up on the stick and watch the ball, not the arrow to move under it. If you follow the arrow the entire way it's really difficult.

Hot and cold spells happen within the background engine. Take batting practice every game, it will give you an idea of whether you're hot or cold. If you are killing it in BP you can be more aggressive at the plate, including using power swings. If you're dribbling and popping everything play the plate more conservatively including using contact swings.

If you're playing Guess Pitch and you always guess high fastball and park it when you get it, expect to get fewer high fastballs. If you find that you always guess the same first pitch and you aren't seeing them as much, change it up because the pitcher probably has.
Got this over the weekend, and played the heck out of it. My boys and I each started our own RTTS. My 2nd baseman got drafted by Houston...looks like I have a long road in the minors in front of me.
Pretty easy to get traded if you pester your manager about it.
I've asked for a trade everytime I get the option, and they kept delaying me. I've asked for a position change, and they've shot me down for that too.

I'm only in June of my first season, I don't know how long it actually takes for this stuff to start happening.

I feel like Kennys Vargas playing this game. I'm a moster at the plate until they throw me a slider or change.
Mid June got promoted to AAA to be the bench 2B. Have played every game as a DH, and am hitting under the Mendoza line. WIth no defensive plays, my development has ground to a halt.

The Arkham storyline is really really great.

the wife and I gasped a little when the joker showed up the first time. Extremely clever. I knew he was in the game. Figured he was the Arkham Knight somehow.

Guess he still could be. Haven't got that far.

And hoping you pull through those tank battles GB...there are mother####ers coming up for you. I've had to walk away multiple times from those ####ers. Usually get it the second go around though.
