The Arkham storyline is really really great.

the wife and I gasped a little when the joker showed up the first time. Extremely clever. I knew he was in the game. Figured he was the Arkham Knight somehow.

Guess he still could be. Haven't got that far.
And hoping you pull through those tank battles GB...there are mother####ers coming up for you. I've had to walk away multiple times from those ####ers. Usually get it the second go around though.
Lol the other day I tossed my controller (not hard or anything but still) and my wife was like that's enough. You're an adult. :bag:
Nothing wrong with a little passion. My wife games so she understands when the cursing/throwung begins.
My girlfriend is the one that throws the controller for her Xbox. Then she tries and snap it in half boomerang style. Although I have snapped GoW2 in half before I meet her. :GEARS RAGE:I'm more of a curse/yeller than a thrower really.

I've snapped about 4 controllers in my time. All PS2 and all for Madden online play.
I haven't owned a Madden version in a few years but I gave up on online play. I don't have a circle of gamer friends to play against, and playing against randoms, they would inevitably quit if I scored on the first drive.

There are some ups and downs in the story for me, early downs, then way up later, a that's not a shock and now am WTF??!?!?! Almost to the end.
Barbara blowing her brains out

Yeah that was a bit shocking.

Playing sports games online is the stupidest #### ever.

Inevitably every game would be the same - pick team with Devin Hester, put Devin Hester at QB, run Devin Hester around until his cannon of an arm throws it to the guy while the db has been standing still for 10 seconds. Then they'd hurry up to the line and do it again.

Or the Troy Smith Ravens play where you'd go to the goal line QB Sneak, except with a bunch of receivers on the ends in the eligible spots. Then if the defense stacked people would audible to a pass play, and if they didn't, he would bust through the line for like 10-20 yards every play.

Not when you can become part of a true simulation league with mature players.

I don't bother with lobby games/online ranked etc. The only mode I have played like that is Diamond Dynasty this year on MLB 15 and it's been a 65-70% good experience.

Madden? Forget it. I only play online in a league I have been in for going on 3 cycles now. 32 owners all playing sim football. Live rookie drafts every off season. It's been pretty awesome.

OD'ed on The Show this weekend. After the manager cost my guy the All Star Game in his rookie year by benching him for a month, he finally came around to starting him. Went on to win the Rookie of the Year carrying the team on my back where the team went from .500 to vying for the division title. In the final division title race, playing the White Sox in the last series of the year we split the first two games. In the rubber match with a 1 game lead on the title, the ####### benches me again and we lose. He then benches me for the one game playoff which we also lose. We still get the Wild Card and manage to get the World Series where we lost in 6 to the Pirates and I crapped the bed in games 5 and 6.

I'm now in the next season and the Twins made a bunch of moves to build a really strong squad. At the All Star Break we're over 50 wins and I'm on pace to give Bonds' homerun record a run for its money.

I've found that the game goes much faster if you turn Base running to "off" and fielding to "some". Unless you're a base stealer you don't give up very much. I do wish there was more off field team and manager interaction. It would make for a much better experience but I guess MLB would never let them do what they need to do to make that entertaining.

I didn't know that was an option. I have found my least favorite experience in this game is leading off an inning with a triple, as it almost assures two of the next three batters will strike out (after a six pitch at bat) and the third will walk.

Yeah, I have a similar story line so far. I'm in year 2 of my RTTS and I'm the starting 1B for the Yankees. I always turn off fielding and baserunning - can't stand them. But I do love the training sessions this year. Solid interface with them. I made the all star team already this year and was invited to the home run derby. I crapped the bed on that because I had never done the derby aspect of the game before so I'm going to reload it tonight and do it again.

Yeah, the benching when your guy is clearly a young stud is brutal but it is also is some ways rather real. What annoys me is when I have hitting streak going over 10 games or I just had a phenominal 5 for 6 game and then I get not only benched the next game, but they use me as a pinch hitter in the 8th. Thanks for putting my streak in jeopardy you punk. The real Joe Girardi wouldn't do that.

And I agree on the interaction stuff. I'd love some more off the field aspects to the game.

The leadoff triple followed by 25 pitches and the screw your streak with a pinch hitting scenario are both extremely painful.

Also - make sure you turn your fielding and running to all in the playoffs. You get massive training points for mundane acts in the playoffs.

I got into one cycle of this once where it was fun... It was a 12 team NCAA league. There was no cheesing, but inevitably the team with the running QBs killed everyone. This was back when Vince Young was in the game - it was kind of ridiculous.

So how long until the XBox One and PS4 are replaced by the XBox Two and PS5?
My guess is four years at the absolute earliest. They're both selling well, and I don't see either firm as having an incentive to rush the next generation.
I'd double that. They're just now ending the prior cycle to focus on the new systems. 2022 at the earliest. If I'm not mistaken, they still lose money on these systems but make it back on the game licensing. Why build a new system when you don't need to when you can focus on games and build your base?

God I hope they wait at least 5-6 years.....I did get 10 years out of my PS2 and got the PS3 in 2009. Picked up the 4 in 2014. So 5-6 years from now will feel right.

BTW Ivan.....moving along quite well in BF4.....well worth the 20 bucks. The maps are massive and the battle are just flat out crazy fun and epic in nature. A nice warm up before Star Wars Battlefront 3 comes out in November

I don't know but here is the historical timeline for Playstation

1994: PS

2000: PS2

2006: PS3

2013: PS4

So it looks like a 6-7 year cycle. If that holds we could see PS5 in 2020ish time frame.

Cool. Thanks for the info. If this Black Friday thing is legit I may jump in too. Gonna suck getting used to a controller, having been a keyboard/mouse guy for so long.

Actually the systems tend to get profitable somewhere in the 18-24 month range. It takes that long for economies of scale to kick in. Now we aren't talking hugely profitable but they make back some on them. The games really are where the big money is.

Just finished up Witcher 3. Moving on to Dark Souls 2 in a couple of days.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about why I didn't like W3. It's certainly not that it's bad game. On the contrary, it's extremely well-made with a huge, atmospheric world, a complex story, and a pretty deep RPG system. You could tell the developers really poured their hearts into this. ff somebody told me that it was their GOTY, I wouldn't argue. But try as I might, I just couldn't get myself to love it like I had expected.

Somebody else compared it to kind of blend between Skyrim and Mass Effect, and I think that's about right. Except that it combines the things I don't like about those games. W3 has an extremely clunky combat system. Maybe I'm spoiled for just having come off Bloodborne, but both titles feature shield-less melee combat relying on dodging and countering enemy attacks, and Bloodborne does that infinitely better than Witcher. Then again, Skyrim's combat also sucked and I enjoyed that game. But Skyrim had all kinds of stuff to explore, and you could create whatever kind of character you wanted -- a tank, a mage, a sneaky assassin, or big gay orc -- whereas in Witcher there isn't a whole lot off the main path, and you have to play as Geralt which dictates a certain playstyle. So to the extent that it's like Skyrim, it's Skyrim without the ability to explore and chart your own course.

Of course, you could say the same about Mass Effect. In Witcher, you have to play as Geralt, and in ME you have to play as Shepard. You could choose to be a nice guy or a ########, but your character is basically set in both games. And ME had very little exploration to speak of. But the combat was so great, it didn't matter. Especially on the higher difficulty levels, every encounter required using your abilities well and picking the right teammates for the circumstances. The fantastic combat system never would have carried over to a true open world game. Bloodborne and the Souls games are kind of the same -- they're highly linear, but the combat system makes those game awesome. Witcher just doesn't compare to those games IMO.

Again, this isn't to say that W3 is bad. If the main story reaches out and grabs you or if you happen to identify with Geralt and like the main playstyle of the game, it's probably pretty awesome. But for me personally, it was missing the stuff I really liked in comparable games and ended up feeling kind of flat as a result.

Arkham Knight is finished...well as finished as I'll ever get with the game. I never do the Riddler quests, absolutely hate those little ####### question marks. There are two endings, the regular one and then the 100% one. Both feature the same general theme but 100% gives a ton more detail. It's very interesting name considering the significance of that in Batman's history and the characters in the game. Overall a good game that good have been great without tying so many significant story aspects to the Batmobile. Harley's story is very meh.

You just watch the riddler 100% video online? I assume it's readily available?

It's not the riddler 100% video and yes it's readily available.

It's the Knightfall protocol, and you just hit youtube for 100% full Knightfall protocol ending

The only games I've played the last four years are Souls games. Tried Uncharted, Bioshock, Last of Us...after about 10 hours of each went back to Souls like a crack fiend. Bought PS4 purely for Scholar of the First Sin with the intention of moving onto Bloodborne after another 100 hours of DS2.

Never played any of the Witchers but took notice of the glowing reviews for W3. I wavered between Bloodborne and what seemed like another heavy cut-scene mini movie where you move a guy around for five minutes then watch 10 minutes of animated people exchange varying levels of corny or stilted dialogue. I expected to feel disappointed in what you described: clunky combat compared to Souls, limited enjoyment from playing a predefined character and eventual boredom from a typical video game plot. Maybe I'm old but I still don't understand why the most popular games are essentially movies. You know what's better than video game movies? Movies.

Gotta say though, I'm at the doorstep of Novigrad and I leaned to the other side of the fence. The combat isn't as precise and rich as Souls, but now that I've gotten the hang of it I find it rewarding in a different way. The impact of strikes and kill-shots are satisfying. I enjoy the added layer of potions and oils. It's supplemental to the overall experience that for me, thankfully, finally works. And GD...the overall immersion is off the charts. I'm continually stunned by how gorgeous and intricate the world is. The voice acting is stellar and the dialogue choices are actually thought-provoking. How storylines tendril out across the world is truly impressive.

I guess I've been able to get caught up in those aspects more than the shortcomings compared to a game like Dark Souls. I'm just happy I've found something to change up my gaming enjoyment, at least until Dark Souls 3 takes over my life.

The AR Challenges aren't part of it I don't think, and in this one the AR are stars IIRC.

What are some good video game conventions? Ones that have booths that sell accessories, video game art, rare things you won't find in stores and stuff?

Man it's crazy how much the bat mobile keeps coming up. I stopped in to see what was up with some building and firefly wants me to chase him around the city. No thanks. Went and did another mission. Burn the whole city down guy.

There are three side missions tied to it exclusively and one that has aspects that, while not required, make them a lot easier with it. It's awesome that they included it but to make it required seems short-sided IMO.

Anyone else finish it yet?

Anyone actually use Gamefly?

They have a 30 Day free trial right now. Another option is three months at $9/each month.
Yeah used it for a year or two when it was new and didn't get a whole lot out of it. Slow turnaround, and they always seemed to send me games low in my queue. A lot of times those games would just sit on the counter ignored while I played the games I was really excited about. At some point I admitted to myself it just wasn't worth it and canceled.

A couple of years later they offered me a nice deal to try again, and I figured the service had probably undergone growing pains and was much improved by now... but I only lasted a few more months and the experience was pretty much the same.

I guess it really depends on a number of factors, including how many gamers/systems you have in your house and how quickly you play through them, but with me being the only dedicated gamer in my house and a tendancy to get hooked on games for a long time (skyrim, borderlands, fallout, destiny, etc.), I finally realized that life is short and I should just buy what I want to play and not worry about what game might arrive in the mail. Your mileage may vary, of course.

That's the next main one.

You just missed Too Many Games

Here is a list of most conventions in the US. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_gaming_conventions#United_States

The smaller conventions are actually probably the best ones to find the swag you're looking for. Big cons like PAX, E3 and MagFest are usually too crowded to see or get the good stuff.

The smaller conventions are actually probably the best ones to find the swag you're looking for. Big cons like PAX, E3 and MagFest are usually too crowded to see or get the good stuff.
I'm in the Midwest and quite busy during the school year. Many of those in the midwest in the link you provided look to be special board game or dice game type conventions. Not even Chicago has one that looks "good". Indianapolis seems to be the closest when it comes to video game type stuff. Art, lithographs may be at the smaller ones but video game based? Not sure on that.

If you have PS+, you should try out Rocket League, which is one of this month's freebies. Basically you're playing soccer with rocket-powered cars. My son and I had a blast with this last night playing one-on-one splitscreen. You can play against bots or online as well.

I just finished the main game.

I liked using the Batmobile for the most part, especially after learning about the battle mode toggle setting. The frustrating part came when trying to use it in battles when you didn't use combat mode. Here I'm thinking of pursuing APC lieutenants and the Cloudburst tank, and even the Excavator battle.

The Batmobile is not easy to maneuver (for me, anyway) in regular mode at speed, especially in some of the tighter streets. The lock-on for the immobilizer takes forever, and seemed very picky about when it would start locking on. And, if the target you're after isn't fully facing you, the lock breaks and you have to reacquire it. Add to that the times in these battles when the game decides to go slo-mo and give you an different camera angle while something explodes or whatever, and it becomes very frustrating.

Also, I found it incredibly annoying that the Batmobile is supposed to be this supercar with a jet thruster for speed and four turning wheels to enhance agility, yet the APCs, the big boss tanks, and even the excavator seem to have little to no problems matching it on both.

I stopped the APC side quest when after getting the second one. The third chase always wound up the same way. It starts and I'm able to catch up and wipe out the cars. Once the cars are destroyed the APC out accelerates and drives at speed I can't even being to match and winds up increasing the distance from me.

Just downloaded. This is pretty cool

Halo Master Chief edition looks pretty cool and the controls are smooth but does it ever rise above tedious repetition?

Playing the first game.

Definitely giving this a go when I get home from my business trip.

You ever play Halo CE (original Xbox version)? That's pretty much the game. Move to point, kill everything at point, move to next point, kill everything at next point, rinse repeat till game ends. Fun game but very repetitive. If it came out today without the frabchise name behind it, it would probably be pretty boring.
