Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (8 Viewers)

Does it still take a long time to download a game on XB1 before you can play?

Trying to see what I should expect when Madden arrives. I don't remember GTA, NHL or any other game I have.
Ps4 had a 700 mb download, not sure on xb1
So apprx how long on an average internet speed? I think Madden 25 when I had that a couple years ago took hours
Mine took less than 10 minutes. I think I have a 30mb line.

Awesome thanks, I have a 15 speed line, Must be smaller downloads or fixed greatly since the XB1 came out.

General question for the madden people. In franchise mode how do you guys go about the rookie process where madden generates them. Do you use premade sets that someone else made or just go with the flow of the game. additionally, does that affect the game balance over time if you play a few years of franchise?
You can't import draft classes anymore and they are randomly generated now unlike the used to be. This has caused some uproar with some ratings being out of line, but they say they are working on a patch for it.

Couple madden questions

How do I bump and run on XB1, every time I try it changes my view to first person and I can only pinch line

RT tucks and runs, any button to slide?

Any tips to run faster? Speed button?

Also I pre ordered, I get ultimate team packs. I can't figure out how to get the packs. I redeemed the code.

The Last of Us Multiplayer

I'm officially retiring from this game. Played it way too much this summer and while I had some fun with it, some of the glitches and/or cheapness of it wore on me. Plus, with school starting up again, I have to put my time towards my career instead.

Some of the cheapness:

- hackers seem to be around too much. Some of it is noticeable but not until it actually occurs on your screen. Shooting the enemy while they keep coming at you, or having items way too soon in the match is highly questionable.

- too many differences in guns don't allow "fairness" in the overall game. Some of the talk on reddit is to have the next one (presumably TLOU 2) be more fair when switching from a heavy gun to a handgun. Switching now takes no time so a high powered rifle takes a second to switch when in reality it would take a bit more time. Thus the people using the heavy guns would be at a disadvantage up close.

- the mechanics are fine however the shooting through obstacles is crazy. I never got the hang of it because when someone runs and gets behind one, I never shoot since they are "hiding" but I get hit all the time. Loses appeal for the game when that happens.

- some game play from others is crazy. I'd rather play a game with some reality to it. The Interrogation mode is fun but Survivor mode was the best of them all. Supply Raid is just asking for cheaters though. The one play that got me to not care about this mode was when me and an enemy were about to start melee attacking each other when he drops a bomb, which blows up, downing both of us but he had a "teammate" with Reviver 3 going. So, he essentially suicide bombed up, got revived, than executed me. So cheap.

- pay to own others. Some of the guns that can be bought take away any skill someone might have. They exploit what is "wrong" with the game and carry on like they are great players.

I can't knock it totally as it is fun but the cheaters/hackers/exploiters rule the roost. A good match is hard to come by. Maybe one out of every three matches is a good one.

I also cant figure out how to spin right or spin left. just a random spin. Also cant stiff arm left or stiff arm right. Since these were available in All Pro 2K I gotta assume madden has caught up and added these.

I preordered my madden and it comes with packs? I get the game on Thursday. Is this Ultimate Team fun? I remember reading stories on people blowing tons of money into FIFA Ultimate team. Is it possible to have fun playing Ultimate team without consistantly buying packs to get contracts etc?

I'll likely just do a boring season or play online and get smoked.

Maybe I'll bust out the headset and see if my trash talk game is on par with those 20 years younger.
Yes you can have just as good of a team without spending money it just takes longer. I think it's also funner that way and feels more rewarding. Start grinding out solo challenged and look for good deals on players in the auction house with the coins you get.

No idea how to find the free packs. I put in the code it said it accepted it.

Addicted really bad to Madden Mobile, so I want to get back into Madden as there seems to be tie-ins.

Still rocking the Xbox 360 and wondering if the need for a new console is there if I'm pretty much only going to be playing Madden, and if so, have we figured out between the Xbox One and PS4 which is better for sports games? My apologies if this has been answered, if only there was a decent search function on the site.

I am not wowed by Madden.

The older NCAA games are just more fun to play. I think that's the thing that EA gets lost in when it tries to add all the new features to make it more authentic/technically accurate - the gameplay just isn't that fun.

And I don't think the graphics are all that great either.

Now get off my lawn.

I love the graphics but yes, it doesn't feel like a video game. I've played 2 online games and it was just slow moving methodical move the ball down the field not many big plays. Any time i had the ball it took like a whole quarter of time.

I did alot of research as I only really play sports, XB1 is the way to go. Only thing that sucks is no MLB the Show, Sony only. Wish I could remember all the research I did but it took me awhile and I'm happy with the XB1

I don't think I have a problem with that. I find that more fun in head to head matchups, a game where you wait for your opponent to make a mistake, or get a sack that kils a drive. It's dumb when a sack means nothing because they only have to run four verticals to pick up the first every time (or insert whatever cheese play always works).

But I'm also the guy that loves grinding out a running game.

For the PS4 we are putting together a sim type league.

Yes I always play Ultimate and I don't spend any money. I do not play online though. The challenges are fun.
We just need to wait for that first patch to clean up some very ugly CFM bugs.

In game progression due to drive goals etc is broken.

Rookie speeds are broken (far too high)

So after that first patch drops we can start. Should be here in 2-3 weeks per EA Rex Dicksenson (Head Creative Director or whatever his role is on the Madden team)

Yep we'll be waiting on that. Looking forward to it.

I think it's the exact opposite - the added focus on WR allows for big plays that were missing from recent Maddens.

I haven't bought DLC in a while - anybody know how often they go on sale (I'm on Xbox 1)? Two new Dragon Age 3 expansions dropped since I last checked but seems pricey at $15 a pop.

I'm only two games in, I make big catches, but tackled right after. I used McCoy and can't break away for a long TD run ever let alone more that 6 yards. Screens get me some space but then tackled after maybe 10 yards. Sammy Watkins shouldn't be caught by LB's or SS's

Tweak the slider that makes for more separation between slower and faster players. The default is way too "even", probably to more cater to the pick up and play crowd (the way the game is on default generally makes all teams and players viable. So if your favorite team is the Jags, you can buy the game, play as the Jags, and have fun.)

This game is all about sliders if you want that level of realism and the player ratings to matter more.

What upcoming games are expected to be clear jumps forward regarding graphics? DirectX12, upcoming new video cards, new game engines, etc...Was watching previews for Fallout 4 and wasn't terribly impressed with the graphics, but have seen preview for The Division and it looks like it may be pretty slick. I'm not terribly tuned into this anymore, and was wondering if there was something on the horizon that looked to be a possible leap forward?

Want to time replacing my laptop with anything with a real WOW factor.

Half Life 3

So amazon required a signature for a video game? Now I have to go pick it up
Depends on your neighborhood and the amount of people that have previously gotten free replacements because it showed delivered but they say they never got it.

Todem is actually highly regarded in the slider community for creating sliders that give a more authentic feel. There will be a big patch coming out in 2 weeks to correct a lot of known issues, and then he'll get them out.

There's a forum over on operation sports dedicated to Madden sliders. Here's Armor and Swords thread in that forum (he posts here too - Todem, I believe). His sliders are usually the best.

This is the first Madden I've picked up in a long time and wow what a difference. I played one Play Now game and got stomped then had to do all the tutorials just to figure out what was happening.

I then setup a franchise and my goodness was that different too. Experience Points for production is finally in the game. Playing only on All-Pro (after a total scheme change and some player moves) and I had an amazing come from behind win over the Colts. Scared the crap out of my girlfriend when I jumped up yelled "YEAH! GO SAMMY. GO!" with 40 seconds left and down by 4. I remember why I brought this every year before going on hiatus.

Half of this page reminds me of how grateful I am for digital game downloads. Waiting for the UPS man before I can play anything was horrible.

Metal Gear Solid 5 racking up ridiculously good reviews. I love stealth games, and really liked the short prequel released earlier this year (was a freebie on Games with Gold last month), so this looks like a buy.

On a related note, I ended up buying MGS5 digitally.

Question for you next-gen guys - now that we're almost two years into next gen and decent day-one digital delivery for every release, how do you feel about digital delivery now?

After a rocky start (bought Thief, didn't really like it, and felt kinda burned because I couldn't trade it in), I've really come to like it. Not having to insert the disc, and having all of your games right there ready to boot up, is a bigger convenience than I thought it would be, and is worth the tradeoff of not being able to resell a game. I don't buy everything digitally, but I will for games I'm almost certain I'll love. Plus, no going to the store or waiting for the UPS guy, etc.

I didn't think I'd like it, but I do.

This is what I'm at with digital also... I love not having to change out the discs, but only for games I know I will keep and play for a long time. For the others I will put up with the hassle just to be able to resell and get some cash back.

I think I will be giving digital delivery a shot next time. I've been loyal to the brick and mortal Gamestop by my house. The guys that work there are good guys, will provide insight into games, are friendly, etc., basically just good customer service whenever I've been in there. I figure continuing to buy my discs from there and trading in my old one helps keep them in business. Well, when I bought Madden, I figured I'd trade in all my old versions since I would never play them for nostalgia. I got $2 for last years 360 version. They even gave me $.05 for the oldest one I have, so I got a grand total of $3.80 off for the new game. Trading in a single game doesn't even pay for the gas to make the trip, so digital it is for me.

Random thought but it is amazing how the video game sports industry churns out a title each year knowing full well that 99% of their customers will never play it again after that year. No other genre has that problem.

Nothing revolutionary. Just a random thought.

I'm 100% on board with digital.

My disc drives kept going out and causing huge problems. Even now, my 360 sounds like a jet when I run a game from the disk. If it's a game I know I want like Fallout 4, day 1 digital all the way. Otherwise I generally wait until I can buy it digitally for like $10 anyway.

Switching discs isn't a big deal to me as I really don't play multiple games at a time and if I do, it will be this game on PS4 and that game on Xbox One. Witcher 3 is in my PS4 and it will stay there until I finish.

I'll buy digital if it is really a much better deal than physical but I prefer physical. It's the out of sight out of mind thing for me. My disc games are separated by games I played and ones I haven't so when I'm done with Witcher, I'll put it on the done shelf and check out the haven't played shelf for the next game to play. Too easy to forget about what I have for digital.

Same here. Digital is great, and I go that route for games that I know I'm going to be playing for a while, coming back to later on, and never trading in. So Battlefield 4 and Bloodborne = digital. Witcher 3 and MGS5 = physical.

The main thing holding me back from all-digital (aside from silly HD capacities) is that they need to get prices competitive with physical copies. Last December, I picked up several games for half-price or so on Amazon that were still going for $59.99 on PSN.
