My top four games this generation so far have been Rainbow Six Siege(best strategy), Rocket League(most fun with friends), Life is Strange(best story), and Fallout 4(most immersive). Beyond that Ori and the Blind Forest(fantastic music/story/gameplay), Titanfall(best pure shooter), Ark: Survival Evolved(sandbox survival is ruthless), Witcher 3(awesome but in backlog), and Elite Dangerous(best sim) are my next picks. I still have a ton of AAA and indie games to play but can't wait for XCOM 2 and others.

XCOM 2 is fantastic. Only really needs UI mods, IMO. The DLC quest lines are also top notch.

Seriously?  The original Dead Space is fantastic.  It's one of the better games of the PS360 era, especially if you like RE4-style action/horror games.

I have this but don't play it because I hate randoms. Let's play sometime. 

I'm currently breezing through NG+ in DS3. I should be able to get everything except the covanent stuff this play through. I'll roll a new room for the covanent stuff as it's easier to find summons your first playthrough.

Which operators do you not understand? 

Not that I don't understand, I just can't find a way to use them effectively.  Guys like Thatcher, Jagr, Buck, and a couple of others.

In order I'd say I exclusively run Thermite, Sledge, Glaz and Ash on offense, then Mute or Smoke on defense pretty much every single time with the occasional Frost.

Great game, great series.  A notch below ME and The Witcher IMO.

The first one is a little wonky with the view point in tight spaces (like elevators) however the combat is still very cool with the plasma cutter being one of the cooler weapons in gaming IMO.  Plus they offer some very unique movement mechanics as you go from gravity to zero-gravity.  

It's really just a fun ride and quite creepy.

I'm still having a blast with NMS (probably 20ish hours played thus far).  I have noticed quite a few bugs on the PS4 version.  

• I crash on this game more than any other game.  Probably 5 or so crashes in my 20 hours.
  
• I have had a few times where I discover a technology only to have it not listed in my technologies I'm able to build
  
• My connection to their servers is almost always offline.  I believe this is the reason all the folks who try to "meet" can't see eachother.

It does seem less like 18 quintillion different planets and more like quintillion different skins of about 7 planets. The jury is still out for me but I can easily see this game not being everyone's cup of tea. I haven't experienced the issues he had (music and sound volume issues), but I did see the creature at 1:36 and that seems odd. I've also seen a small creature that behaves like a retriever: gentle, feed him, he digs up a treat and the magnifying glass icon points to it - several times on different planets. It always has a slightly different look but it doesn't really feel like I'm "discovering" a new creature each time when I can completely predict the behavior "oh you must be the retriever for this planet, here you go"

I've played NMS about 10 hours or so now since Friday.  I can't decided how I feel about it.  Yesterday I wasn't just itching to play it, but had some time and sunk 3+ hours into it before I even looked at a clock.  So I really enjoy it when I play.  I have had 4 or 5 crashes also, which is just annoying.  Thankfully they seem to happen when I'm saving at a new POI.  

I haven't noticed being offline a bunch, but it has happened some.  

I still haven't left my first planet, but as soon as I find one last creature I'm heading out.  Maybe the story will make more sense at that point.  

Right now, I don't think this should have been a Day 1 purchase but I'm not playing anything else currently and its getting all my attention so it may be worth it in the long run.

After having an xb1 for a year, I've decided the following are the three best games I've played...

2. Rocket League - Most enjoyable pick up and play game I can ever remember.  Just good fast fun. There's really no excuse for not having played it at this point and probably the best bang for your buck. 

Hell yeah.   Aside from maybe the Binding of Isaac, this is the best value I've gotten in a game in a very long time.  I may be in the market to finally get an Xbox One around the new year and it's definitely a game I'll be buying again just to play with Xbox peeps.

Probably top 5 in my "most fun I had playing a game".  Thought the whole thing was really enjoyable, and the fact it was pretty short.  Too long it probably would have begun to drag out, or get old, too many games just add crap so they can say "over 80 hours of gameplay".  Glad they didn't do that.

I never played that DLC. I ended up playing ME2 (with all the DLC) and ME3 almost back to back so, I was burnt out. I was also disappointed with basically the same ending for everyone. 

What do you think the chances they do a remastered release for the new consoles?

I feel like I need to defend NMS and I have no idea why I feel this way. Because really I shouldn't be. The standard "it's was only a 15 person team" is a garbage excuse because they charged full price. I had heard about it before any was kind of "meh" but they released at a great time when I was looking for something new. My fault, I guess. I might come back to it. It is really easy to lose big chunks of time to this game but for what?

Really it's slow, boring and has no story. It's an open world that's missing a game. Actually, what it feels like is that there should be Citadel that's under attack somewhere, a Krogan and Geth war that I decide the fate of. I should be trying to assemble a crew to fight some mysterious evil race. I should also be getting drunk and trying to have sex with that crazy ##### who has a shaved head and tattoos (maybe because I a little screwed up too?) However, I know that if I have to choose between her of one of my boys (Garrus or Wrexquando) that I'm launching her crazy ### into space.

Damn it, now I've lost an hour reading everything I can about Andromeda. Had avoided details since it's still pretty far out, but wow. Looks incredible.

The only challenge they'll have is crafting as great an overall, epic story as they did in the original trilogy. But they've had many years to work on it.

What's funny is that I completely trust them with the Mass Effect brand and story, despite not loving what they've done with Dragon Age basically since the first one. Is it the same studio, or two different Bioware studios under the same umbrella? Amazing how one IP can be so much more interesting, well fleshed out, and immersive than another even when the games are good (DA) to great (ME).

Remaster? Zero. They are working way too hard to get Andromeda right first.   Backwards compatible is all I hope for at this point.

Sometimes games give away too much in their prerelease marketing cycle so I don't want to dive too deep into looking at them. However, I've heard some pretty interesting things about Mafia 3. Anyone else heard/seen much about this game?

I thought DA 2 had a great story as well despite any shortcomings the game might have had in other ways (repetitive level design, etc). DA:I was a train wreck in that department. I think Bioware has lost a fair number of high profile writers over the last few years, which may be a contributing factor. I'll be very interested in whether they can live up to the very high standards set by the first ME trilogy going forward.

Maybe it's just harder to create a new fantasy IP that feels original, maybe spaceships and aliens are easier to make feel unique. But the story, setting, races, etc. in Dragon Age just always feel so damn generic to me. I definitely expected better from the company that gave us the ME universe. DA always felt more cookie-cutter to me with the tired Humans/Elves/Dwarves thing and the Orc-ish Darkspawn. And it's not because I skew more towards the sci-fi side of the nerd spectrum, I generally prefer a fantasy setting.

It's also totally possible that better writing, story, and characters are making me perceive ME as a more unique sci-fi setting than it is.

I thought Rogue was ok, with a semi-interesting storyline.  Better than 3, not as good as black flag or Etzio.  So if you enjoy AC series, I'd play that one.  Unity...  I played, because I play all the AC games, but it just missed out on fun, especially in the story, I think it is down there with 3 as my least favorite AC game.  It's a shame because some of the game play updates like climbing down were nice, and I thought Paris looked really , too bad they wasted such a good historical time and really nice setting on a meh game.

I haven't played Syndicate yet, I'm still waiting for that to drop in price, so I can't say if you "miss" anything in that game by skipping either of the other two, but really, I don't think so, I can't imagine how they tie together, but someone else would need to comment on that.

IIRC, the alien knew Lucy was a Templar and didn't want her interfering with Desmond. Juno apparently spent the millennia while she was on ice devising some technology that could protect the planet from the solar flare or whatever the hell was happening. I wonder if the writers realized the modern storyline was going off the rails, as some of the more recent games just ignore the present day storyline almost entirely

Always thought the present day storyline and modern computer-y UI that went along with it were by far the worst parts of any AC game. Would much rather them be original period piece assassin games. The present day stuff was always a huge drag. *

*disclaimer: last AC I played was AC II and I kept it for a long time. Whenever I had the itch for that kind of gameplay, I'd pop it in rather than buying the newest AC entry that always seemed so similar. Now on next gen I have Shadows of Mordor for that purpose.

Yep I played all the DLC, typical DLC really nothing too excellent.

For some reason the gf and I game a lot less in the summertime. It's nice out, we usually use our free time to take little trips, etc. And at night we seem to binge shows we've missed out on more than game.

But once summer winds down we always pick up the controllers again. I'm really looking forward to catching up on some games that for whatever reason I didn't get into at the time--probably because I was already playing something else.

Will have The Witcher 3 and Farcry 4 ready to go. Are we in for a good fall of gaming? These games seem to get rave reviews from people and I'm surprised at myself for not having already played them, they fall right into my interests.

I'm really hoping that these games are as epic as I think they're supposed to be.

Witcher 3 is great. Good mix of large world to explore, story, and decent third person combat (the combat falls somewhere between button mashing and Dark Souls tactical style - it's fun.) 

Far Cry 4, to me, was essentially Far Cry 3 all over again. if you loved FC3, you'll like 4, but might feel a little of "been there, done that" creep in.

I've actually never played a Far Cry game, period. I was a 360 guy last gen and have never touched the series, it was barely on my radar. Seems pretty awesome for what it is.

Far Cry Primal is awesome if you want a fresher take on the series. Play it on survival mode if you really want to have a crazy experience. 

I am 65% done with it on normal difficulty and will do a survival replay down the line for sure.

I thought Far Cry 4 was fantastic. I liked it even better than 3 because the visuals were stunning, the story actually better IMO and the gyrocopter was simply bad ### fun. Also riding elephants was sick.

No Man's Sky log

I spent 3 nights trying to find an upgraded warp drive so I could visit some of the colored stars (initially you can only go to yellow stars, need upgraded warp drives to go to green/red/blue/white stars).  Last night as I was finishing "one last thing" before logging off for bed I got the schematic I needed.  Of course that meant I was not logging off.

I had to find a bunch of Aluminum and Nickel.  Luckily, the system I was in had Nickel meteors floating around and a planet with Aluminum veins everywhere.  It took about 25 minutes to mine the necessary materials, create the drive and warp to my first "red" star.

The system the red star was in looked normal as I got into it with 1 planet and 3 moons.  I did get assaulted by a couple pirates as soon as I warped in but dispatched them quickly as their ships were garbage.  I decided to land on the closest object to me, now named Von Moonler.  This place was a hellhole.

The daytime temperature on Von Moonler was -118* Celsius and dropped another 60 at night.  Of course it stormed ####ing lava so my suit was giving cold AND heat warnings the whole time I'm on the planet.  The first animal I ran into was what I can only describe as a "bipedal centipede" as much as that contradicts itself.  It was a centipede body and head that stood upright on it's back legs.  It tried to kill me but I scared it off with my cool looking gun.  I then ran into what I'll call "PenisCow".  This was a cow body/head that had what looked like 12 Penises (penii?, penis?) for legs.  It tried to kill me but I killed it with my cool looking gun (insert tube steak joke here).

As hellish as it was, resources were bountiful.  There were Emeril crystals everywhere (not veins but the crystals, like the plutonium on most planets).  This lead me to quickly fill up my inventory with valuable cargo and peace out.  I escaped Von Moonler only to find 9 pirates waiting for me (and my valuable treasure) in orbit .  Again, their ships were garbage but the sheer number of them made it a tricky situation.  I ended up winning but only because I had resources to recharge my shield 4 times during combat.  Managed to find/get to the space station and sell my loot to a trader that flew in for 5% over the universal average.

At this point I was exhausted and decided to go to bed.  Tonight I'll explore the other two moons as well as the planet (soon to be dubbed ELWAY_GOAT_7).

You'll really like it then. Just coming from 3, 4 felt very similar to me. That's not a bad thing - great games, and tons of stuff to do.
