Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (2 Viewers)

I thought the new Deus Ex came out NEXT month. I guess I need to go get my pre order.

So people are upset about micro xactions of some sort. It's not like they're REQUIRED, right?

I find microtransactions to be frustrating. If they're included, it means it's part of the game. If I'm paying a full $60 for the game, I shouldn't be nickel and dimed for content that is completed with the game.

If if it extra content post-release, I don't like it but I consider that bonus. If you create a game and then purposefully exclude content so you can charge more, that's bad form.

Yep. Terrible practice cutting up a finished game and selling it in chunks.

Anyone fire up Madden?
Yes. Best one yet. Everything is better overall, and running the ball is really fun. Gameplay is very, very good - this feels more like football than ever. I thought the past 2-3 years were all decent steps forward, and this one almost puts a neat bow on it.

They have come a long way in presentation, too. Still not the greatest halftime show, but otherwise, it's really good (the new announcing team is excellent).

I don't see how anyone can say they like videogame football and not be super impressed with Madden 17.

So, Battlefield 1 is going with purchased expansions again. Basically, you pay over $100 for the full game (until they decide to sell more expansions). Screw them, I'm skipping this one.

I don't so much mind the purchased expansions / extra content route, as long as I feel i got my money's worth out of the base game. $60 has been the price point for awhile now, and certain expectations come with that. But if I get a decent 20-30 hours out of my $60, I'm cool with that, and don't care when they started developing additional content. And some games give me waaaay more than 20-30 hours. And some less - and I'll tend to avoid those companies / studios in the future.

Agree with this. It only really bothers me on the margins. I received so much value out of ME3, it would have been a bargain at $150, so paying $70 or whatever for the "full" game doesn't cause me any grief. I'm certainly not going to try out a game I'm sort of on the fence about - like, say, Battlefield - under those circumstances, however.

Please explain more like I am too lazy to use the google machine. TIA
The Witness was an extremely highly rated puzzle/story game for the PS4/PC.  I did not play it, so better info from guys who did, but I didn't see much discussion on it here.  As bigmarc said, kinda in the old myst vein of games where you are exploring an island having to solve interesting and sometimes complex puzzles to move throughout.

It's actually something I really want to check out, I don't think I've heard anyone who enjoys that type of game have many complaints about it.  Maybe others here will disagree however.

THAT was the egregious offense ME3 committed. Much more so than the ending.

Javik was essential to the story but they sold him separately. Awful.
About three of the ME3 dlcs I would consider must have content that hurt the story overall without it. Not just its a nice addition, but vital for it to be complete. Similar to Fallout 3 with the final dlc. Games shouldn't do that.

This is pretty much all I know. I hear some of it is very difficult, but lots of good things overall. I believe the entire island is one big open puzzle from the start, and that it has different regions like a snowy mountain to a jungle to a desert.

i enjoyed Braid and I like puzzlers, so this might be something worth checking.

Have you played The Talos Principle? Those puzzles get hard in a hurry.

The Witness coming to XB1. Anyone play it?  I really enjoyed Braid and also like Myst-like games, so I think it might be right up my alley.
It's a game that you can wait on. There's no usefully to graphics, frame rate, controls, etc. Basically, it won't really age.

There's very little "story" to this game. And the few voice recordings I found were long, boring and I didn't really like the "character" in the voice recording. Really the environment tells a better story.

The gameplay is just walking around to basically a computer monitor, do a line puzzle, unlock a gate, repeat. Over and over and over. The best moments are when you figure out the solution to a puzzle. Sometimes you feel like the smartest person in the world, other times you stupid that you missed something so obvious and sometimes you're pissed off at how stupidly abstract or way out of place the solution is.

Personally, I did not enjoy this game but I didn't finish it either. It's the same thing over and over. I gave it a good effort too. Had a note book with "this symbols means this, this thing means" and drawings. Saying this oddly makes me want to go back but then I think about it and it's just line puzzles. Over and over. Also, its not a game you can just hop back into. If you forget what even one thing means you're pouched. It's not really an exploration game either, it's a line puzzle game.

As I sad at the top, wait. Wait for it to go on sale for $5 or something. Maybe watch a YouTube of the first 5-10 minutes of the game. That's pretty much what you'll be doing the entire time, just which more difficult puzzles. And the island isn't that big.

It's available as PC digital download for about $7 on GamersGate.com (and/or maybe Steam) right now.
I don't have a PC to game on. We have a MacBook that we use for every day stuff like finances and whatnot, and everything else is me on an IPad.  If anyone ever reads my posts closely enough, they can probably tell I'm on an iPad because I don't bother to proof for weird autocorrects and such.

I think I have some of my various towers confused, but I think I recall the distinction of a "distress signal" and other transmissions. Sometimes I'm at those things with an orange beam going up and you can pick from one of four options - I know what "shelter" means and pretend that I didn't learn that and mix it up. There are "transmission towers" that find various things - you don't choose - it just tells you what it finds. And there are observatories, and they find a variety of locations as well. I think.

Anyway, tonight I'm on a mission to get my AtlasPass - it's just driving me crazy all the containers and doors that need one. And then back to upgrading my ship. Unless I get sidetracked. Which is pretty much guaranteed.  :stalker:
I found mine in a box next to one of the antennas you use to "discover" an area.  My wife got it through talking with an alien.  Eventually they get there.

The big difference is that From Ashes was day 1 DLC. It was built into the game and they cut it out and sold it for an extra $10.  All the others were worked on post release.

I think it's hilarious and sad that Spore is a better game than No Man's Sky.

NMS was supposed to be the next-gen Spore.

Finally got the blueprint for one and built it. Also reached a location that found a crashed ship signal and put it on my radar. My current ship looks like a dragonfly and my old one was a boring freighter looking thing so I'm hoping this one is star warsish. Fingers crossed. I'm on a fun planet so I'm going to try to complete my discovery list this one time.

I postponed my search for v2 and v3 passes while I work on upgrading my ship.  48 Slots is the max currently and I'm at 28.  I've already maxed my suit and gun so once I get the ship built I'll have all my equipment upgraded to max.  After that I'll work my way toward the center where I'm sure the V2 and V3 passes are more common.

What are the maxes for suit and tool?  I think its 48 for suit and 24 for tool but I can't remember.  I may be close to max on my tool, but only around 30 w/ my suit.  My ship is in the 20's, so I'm actively searching for crashed ships.  I actually really enjoy that part, and I just fix the minimum to get it to fly on the planet I'm on so I can keep upgrading.  I always patch it fully before I jump to the next planet.

Oh, question about finding all the discoveries on a planet.  I wasn't really trying on my current planet but I found all but one item.  I've found the birds and even two water animals.  Any tips on finding the last thing?  I know birds and water animals are usually the hardest to find but I already have those.  Its actually starting to frustrate me trying to find the last one and I don't want to fuss w/ it too long, but one more animal will mean 300k units.

My current planet has tons of Emeril too, so I've been mining that like crazy.  I can make 3-400k pretty quick.  Even had two large deposits right next to a trading outpost recently.  That was $$$.

48 for ship, 48 for suit, 24 for tool.  As for all the discoveries, I don't know, never done it  .  I've always gotten the urge to move to the next planet before I've even come close.

Right now all I'm doing is hopping to a planet, searching for transmission signals, getting a ship, and then searching for transmission signals again.  Once I get a transmission or distress signal that sends me to a repeat location I fly to the next planet (I only fix the two items you need to to get off the planet).  Once I run out of planets I fix the hyperdrive and go to the next system.

Just looting ships that are not upgrades and selling whenever I'm full or see a trade outpost I'm up to 7million in about 6 hours of playtime.  After I get my 48 slot ship I'll continue to search for them until I get one that looks cool and then completely upgrade it with everything I've found (I'm only missing some of the Omega blueprints) and head to the center.

Downloaded the new Madden. Playing a quick match while the other modes are installing. I'm bad at this game. 3 picks in the first half. The commentating is so much better.

Madden 17 is outstanding. But I also loved Madden 16.

This one builds upon it and the presentation is off the hook now. One good patch away from being the best console football game IMO. Yeah better than that other game from 10 years ago.

If it's better than the NFL2K series, I might have to pick this one up!

I'm freaking pumped that they removed the cap on certain positions in the franchise mode drafts...now you can draft 6'6" WR's, 95+ speed RB's, 6'4" DB's, etc. again. Makes the draft so much more realistic and I love scouting and building around these more unique, freaky players. Plus it was just dumb that there were no QB's over 6'4", no RB's over 92 speed, no WR's over a certain agility and height, no DB's over 6'2", etc.

Anyone playing franchise mode needs to read the OP of the thread I'll link below, it explains every single thing about how player progression, development, and regression works. Its a LOT different than any other Madden--basically it makes no sense to invest any Training time in any play over the age of 26 and the younger the players you draft, the better for purposes of developement. Players get harder to improve at 26, and hit a wall at 28/29.

No spoilers here, just an explanation of the new progression/regression systems in Madden 17: http://www.operationsports.com/forums/madden-nfl-football/887507-depth-look-player-development-how-works-m17.html

Great info and link.

I would've liked to seen the skills stay a bit more static over time. Maybe even decrease in price over time. Basically, as time eats away physical traits, it improves skill development.

Yeah, I think a hard cliff at the same age for every player is pretty lazy actually, as a way to simulate regression and keep too many 90+ rated players from being in the league at once. But its a good start. And if you want to simulate some HOF type long careers that aren't as possible now, all you have to do is edit the players back to where they were before the regression (or regress them yourself via editing in whatever manner you find realistic, if you have the patience).

But a guy like AJ Green turning 29 and immediately losing -2 spd, acc, agi, cth, spec ctch, etc. is not good. In 3 years his speed will be about an 82..that's bad. That's a guy who, if he stays healthy, will have his game age gracefully like Fitz. And slow WR's are actually viable enough...think about what will happen when a stud DBnlike Josh Norman starts losing -2 speed per year off his already unimpressive 88 spd or whatever. He'll be useless in 2 years, hilariously bad in 3 or 4 years, the way slow DB's play in Madden.

So there's some kinks, and luckily we have the full editing to help with them.

But its a good start. Just being able to edit name, body, ratings of all players, but especially incoming rookies is huge for me.

It's kind of sad that the lead designers have designed the game to play slower, more predictable, and feature lanes instead of tons of potential movement routes.
Balancing a shooter is a lose/lose situation.

I thought I read that they were increasing Titans boosts and trying to make it easier to combo wall runs? The way I took it was that they wanted more predictable deaths if the way that you don't feel like you just died for no reason.

They are addressing some of this (see the link a few posts back).

I think Madden passed up NFL 2k5 with Madden 25.  It took them 10 extra years, but it did finally happen.
Madden has been a better game of football for awhile now. 2k had a better halftime show/etc, but as far as gameplay, it hasn't been close for quite some time. And I *loved* 2k, and still play All Pro Football 2k8 once in awhile. But Madden is far more challenging.

I think I'm probably skipping BF1, but that's just because I'm not really interested in a shooter right now, not because of this.  Battlefield titles have always provided fantastic value in their vanilla versions, and the expansion packs have been stellar.  I have no objection at all to paid map packs when they're high-quality, and these probably will be based on past trends.

Actually I DO care about making it to the center but no way I'm clicking on that. I don't want any more spoilers than I have.
It's about the destination, not the journey. I probably could have worded it better. It's a good read for those on the fence. But it definitely gives away the ending, which is why I said spoiler.
