Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (1 Viewer)

That's wrong. And that same page corrects itself later

The Citadel was not, in fact, constructed by the Protheans; they were simply the last race to make use of the station before the asari arrived. It, and the mass relays, are the creations of the Reapers, and were built to help facilitate their cycle of galactic genocide. The Reapers were also responsible for the placement of the keepers on the station, in order that the occupying races would not discover the Citadel's key functions
Whatever, they're still space Rastafarians.

Which is an odd spin/stance coming from them considering all the arguments made back in the Blu-Ray PS3 vs non-Blu-Ray xbox 360 days.
Back then most people got movies on discs rather than by streaming them.  In the last few years, physical media for movies is in the decline as people opt to stream movies rather than buy them on disc.  Games, on the other hand, they still buy on disc a lot, probably because you can re-sell them.

Circa 2006: "The spin being that you don't have to pay for a Blu-Ray player that might be useless to you if you haven't bought an HDTV TV and Blu-Ray discs."

Perhaps I meant to say Ironic instead of odd.

Bought a ps4 on Monday. Bought destiny. After downloading the first 24 hour update to even, begin to play it the ps4 servers went down. When they finally came back the destiny server was down. Now today there is another 10 plus hour update to destiny.

WTF?  I'm ready to throw this thing through a wall.

Just wait till you see what you were waiting for.

Except the games for the PS3 were already being put on Blu-Ray discs because of the higher capacity compared to CD-ROMs used by PS2.  PS4 uses Blu-Ray discs, too, so there's no requirement there to support 4K.

Whatever, Javik sucks.
Javik: You there. Tattooed human. I would like to touch you.

Jack: I'm not nearly drunk enough for that.

Javik: You then, shuttle pilot? How about you?

Lieutenant Steve Cortez: Um... Why's Javik getting all touchy-feely?

Jack: Hey, Collector-looking #######, maybe go touch yourself?

Javik: That does not happen until the end of the party.

I solved the RE4 controller issues. Just change to Type II. All it changes is the aiming from the right stick to the left stick. Its a subtle difference but one thing it accomplishes is it keeps your hand off the right stick going forward so you dont automatically think to use it to move the camera. Worked for me and now Im loving the game again.

RE4 is definitely my favorite game of all time. Played it on 3 different systems now (PS2, Wii, and now PS4) and loving it just as much. What a game!

The games were being put on Blu-Ray discs because Sony owned the Blu-Ray standard, that was the first and foremost reason by far. Sony only put the Blu-Ray player in because they wanted to kill the competing HD-DVD standard (and it worked.) The capacity issue was certainly a benefit but mostly a smokescreen, mainly it saved you from having to switch discs every once in a while. 80 some odd million xbox 360 users seemed to get along just fine without having their games on a Blu-Ray disc, it was definitely not a necessity.

No mods on the PS4 for Fallout 4 or the upcoming Skyrim Remaster.

Bethesda

After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.

Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.

We will provide an update if and when this situation changes.

Odds are, even in a best case scenario we weren't going to get anything close to the type of mods you are used to on PC.

Not sure if anyone here subscribes to Drift0r on YouTube, but I've always enjoyed his videos and he has always seemed like a good dude that was real and down to earth.

While he was at some event last weekend, someone broke into his house and like super hacked him. They hacked into his computer and stole/changed a bunch of stuff, hacked his surveillance cameras, and even found a backup thumb drive that he had hidden in some super secret hidden location and messed with that as well. They didn't take anything else in the house even though he had expensive electronics, cash, guns and his wife's jewelry.

It's like something out of a movie and totally insane. He seems super freaked out. Apparently someone tried to break intoTmartN's house as well that weekend but his security system is crazy. But sounds like even with that system they almost succeeded. So it has to be targeted and some serious computer pros, not some random hood.

Crazy stuff.

If Rockstar were to surprise announce Red Dead 2 next year (like Bethesda did with Fallout 4), 2017 would immediately be a top contender for best year of gaming.
Next year could be very lacking for me I think, no Arkham game, no AC, no Elder Scrolls, No FO, really hoping to see Red Dead 2 but not much faith.

Not to be "that guy" but there's already a Red Dead 2.  It was Red Dead Redemption.  (The first "Red Dead" was Red Dead Revolver).

As a guy that travels too much, I wish there was a sling box or  something that allows me to play my PS4 games from a remote location.  I know I'm reaching but anything?

I know very little about this, but isn't there something called "Remote Play" for PS4? Could be making that up.

I haven't fooled with any of these.  Anything really noteworthy?
My favorite is unlimited scrap. There is a car trunk up by the vault which is filled with 100,000 (or something) of every type. Load up and go to your workbench and voila, you can build up all your linked settlements quite nicely.

Wait, you can open car trunks?   Damn, never knew that!

Decided to pick up Madden for the first time in forever. Used to buy the NCAA football game every year but can't remember the last time I played Madden.

I kinda suck so far, but that's to be expected. A few things I can't stand though. The main thing is how there's a ####### 10 second cut scene after EVERY SINGLE PLAY.  I get so frustrated that i just start hitting buttons thinking it will skip it and then I just end up picking a random play. So frustrating.

Running game feels kinda stuck in the mud to me. I get that its more realistic but I miss the ability to cut quickly like back on the Xbox 360 days of NCAA.

The silly little button press mini game to break a tackle, shed a block or go up for a certain type of catch just seems really gimmicky to me.

NMS: A little over 200 hours in and still enjoying it. I have a maxed out multi tool, a full exosuit, and all blueprints so there are a lot of things I don't do any more like drop pods. I still hit every knowledge stone but I don't do ruins or plaques since they're pretty much glorified  KS with long drawn out sci fi lore. My ship has 30 spots so finding crashes is pretty much my focus now, Just did my 10th warp jump so I'm nowhere near the center.

Although I love this game it really is crazy how much is unfinished. Looking at abandoned buildings, ruins, observatories and operations centers, you can tell they had so much more planned for them. It's also clear from the dialogue that some scanners were intended to find things locally, some planet wide and some were meant to find things on other planets and other solar systems. It will be interesting to see if the updates only address bugs and issues or if they're going to release anything that includes what was designed for these areas.

RE7, Persona 5, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Gran Tranismo, Zelda and Mass Effect.

If we get a good GT, Zelda, Me, RE7 and then a good new series in Horizon. Plus, a new Red Dead.

RPG single player only gamer, I am not good at all with FPS without some type of assist system or non open world. I got stuck in every ME I played so no more of those. Very disappointed that Rocksteady is done with the Batman games.

The big two for me are "full dialogue" which gives you the dialogue instead of the stupid options the game comes with. The other is a greenification mod. Instead of everything being brown and dead, it adds trees and grass and overgrown greenery everywhere.

Finished The Last of Us over the weekend, first play through.  Yeah, pretty much agree with what people said, really good story, OK controls, enjoyed the game.  Not sure I'll be going back to it any time soon, I'm not sure I can see the "game" itself having a ton of replay ability once you've been through the story, but really solid game.

PS 4 questions / musings / complaints

So, as referenced I bought the oldest a PS4 on Labor Day.  The new controller is fine.  Nothing special.  The menu system is better than the PS3.  It fits into the entertainment system so that was a plus.  On to the games so far:

Destiny

Between loading updates, network crashes, PS4 network being down, more updates, and then even more updates, the game was finally ready to play at 3pm yesterday.  6 days of crap to play a game that we already own with everything that we had to download again.  That was fun.  I mean that sarcastically.  Kid turns it on, and all the fun stuff that he loved about the game is now pay only.  Love that.  Now, I'm a capitalist at heart.  Companies gotta make money.  I get it.  But this movement towards charging me $60 for a game that requires another bucket of cash to play to the full experience of the game is just, well, it sucks.  This is the moment I realize that I am now part of the previous generation.  My time has gone.  Frankly, I'd rather they just charge me $150 for the game and have it all on the disks I buy at the store, or it can only be downloaded.  The movement to DLC and all of this crap just sucks.  It just does.  But he's happy he can play his game again.... and oh, look at that, the new one is about to come out.  Great.

So, of course, I bought into the PS+ experience because I had to.  Again, just to play a game that I've already paid for in full.  Blech.

Rocket League

This is quickly taking over the system anyway.  This game is, on the fun scale, a 20 out of 10.  Everything that is pure and good and American about video game fun is in this game.  I envision many many family games, tournaments, and lost friendships out of last minute hijinx that will ensue.

Remastered Uncharted Series

I grabbed the Uncharted PS4 because my only other choice of a bundle was Call of Duty and he isn't a fan of that genre too much, so the choice was mine in what game I would prefer.  Seemed weird buying 3 games I already have on another system, not to mention 3 games I've already played and beat.  But if you are going to do that, you are hard pressed to find a better series to do it with than Uncharted.  This is just a great series from top to bottom.  Even let my son play the first one and watching him get through the first few chapters was a higlight of video game memories for me.  Learning the whole jumping and hanging thing (I might add, quicker than I did the little ****.)  He hasn't gotten to the zombies yet so that should be good.  It might be new system bias but the remastered version looks even more incredible than the PS3 versions.  While these games don't have the replayability to me that Fallout 3 has, this series is most likely my favorite ever.  I will be buying 4.  I assume I will spend $60 on the game and then have to download crap for 40 hours, buy 4 more versions of upgrades, and then maybe I'll get to actually begin playing, but I'm in.

No Man's Sky

Yeah we bought it.  I haven't played it yet but I've watched him play it.  He's addicted so I guess that is good.  Haven't paid enough attention to see what is missing from what I expected.  I might play my own character soon to check it out but the talk here really killed this thing for me given what I was expecting.  We'll see.

And then the potential freebies.

We can download for free right now, Journey and Lords of the Fallen.  Any input on those?  Journey looked, well, wierd.  But I read the reviews to get an idea and I get it, but it might not be for me.  If I want art I'll go to a museum.... for about a minute and then hit a sports bar.  I also saw some kind of free Star Trek world thingy.  Anyone do that or have any input on that?

Overall, frankly I'm not impressed yet with the PS4 or any of the above title beyond Rocket League and my love for Uncharted.  So, yeah.  Thanks for listening?

Rocket League is great... Simple to learn, but lots to master. Also if you miss a save your son starts pinging the "nice save" prompt over and over, smack him.

Journey is pretty awesome for what it is. It'll be like a 2 hour investment to beat it at most, but it's fun.

Battlefront is way more fun than it was given credit for.

The Talos Principle is a cool puzzle game.

The first Tomb Raider is really good.

Bioshock collection comes out soon.

NHL 16 is terrific

If you liked the Uncharted remasters, you will also like The Last of Us remastered.  A heartwarming story of a murderous sociopath who forms a bond with a foul-mouthed 12 year old girl.

Finished Quantum Break.

An ambitious game that just didn't come together, IMO.

The story ended up being a pretty standard time travel story, the fights were like Mass Effect-lite, and the live action shorts didn't integrate well with the story.

It just kind of limped along.

It sure LOOKS cool though.

YES YES YES.  I haven't played Madden in at least 7 years I'd say.  Finally picked it up because my son is super into it.  #### all this cutscene bull####, it's ####### stupid.

You can't turn cut scenes off? I haven't played in years but I remember that being an option to disable replay. Wouldn't there be a toggle for that too?

I've played probably 200 BE PRO GAME games if not more- LOVE IT.

Is the Tomb Raider that was Xobx exlcusive out for PS4 yet and is it worth it?

:goodposting:  will look into this.  My son gives me the stink eye when I try skipping all the pregame commentary #### they packed in.  Good lord give me Madden 95, a #######ed Sega Genesis, and a case of Busch light.
Also you can hold X to skip the stuff (on Ps4)

The Quick is on the Team select screen I think

I read that for a recent NHL game they automated the rookie draft for the franchise mode, and did some other things that basically ruined the franchise mode.  Is that NHL 16 or 15?
