Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (4 Viewers)

Downloaded Firewatch ($20) based on a recommendation from a friend. Interesting premise, but a horrible game. Very glitchy and excrutiatingly linear, although it gives the appearance of being able to manipulate the outcome with multiple-choice responses to game-play situations.

Finished the game in just a few hours. Very disappointed.

TW Golf in 2003 was awesome. I don't even really like golf but that game was great.
It coincided with my last year of college, so me and roommates would get back from bars and play tiger woods all night.  Me and a buddy had epic matches where you had to go like -30 to win.

Oh yeah. 100+ foot putts for Eagle. I remember it as a whole summer and having battles and BBQs after work with buddies on weekdays.

GTA5, Doom 2, FF7 all too low.
GTA5 is my third most enjoyed GTA game, Doom 2 isn't my favorite Doom game, and honestly FF7 was lower originally. It's the only JRPG I believe you'll find on my list. It's not my thing at all, don't enjoy anime, don't like jrpgs, don't really care for any of that.  It's on the list because I played through it and enjoyed it, but almost more because everyone I know played it at the same time. It was one of those games where we all made progress at night and then talked about it in school the next day.

Games based off of time and enjoyment I received, not necessarily importance. Super Mario Brothers 1 isn't even my favorite Mario Bros game.
It's not even close to the best Mario game but it seems like either it has to be left off the list or way higher depending on how you are weighing the "for the enjoyment during it's era" aspect. Also, why all the love for Roller Coaster Tycoon? It almost breaks into your top 50 all time?

Also guessing the higher we go, the more issues people will have.
That's the whole point of the list though. :D

So for Mario, I got an NES for Christmas when I was a kid and obviously this game came with that bundle. I played this game constantly, I mean non-stop. Beating the game, beating every level, finding secrets, spending way too much time with friends trying to jump over the flag pole, believing a friend when he said he actually did jump over the flag pole "when he was playing by himself", etc... Just lots and lots of good memories.

For Roller Coaster Tycoon.  It's weird, but it's kind of the first game that was almost a mobile game for me. By that I mean, I could play the game while also watching TV or having a football game or baseball game on.  It was fun, it kept me engaged, but it allowed me to keep my focus elsewhere as well. I'd say probably 97 or 98 of the games on here required my entire attention. This one did not but allowed me to play while not completely shutting everything else off.

Doubt it - it's entirely subjective (I mean, you had Sid Meier's golf over ME3 for pete's sake). But it's a fun walk down memory lane wth some of these games.

Sim Golf is the other game like Roller Coaster tycoon.  I got a lot of play out of both of these, an insane amount really.

The higher up the list the less surprises there will be, but I think the ordering might garner some talk.  Also there's always the possibility I completely forgot about a game, although I tried to look back through various catalogues of games to make sure that didn't happen.

An awesome pc first shooter game back in the day was Soldier of Fortune.  Loved that game.  My first real dive (time sink) into multi-player as well.

Rocket edged out Goldeneye. Is it because of proximity mines?

Honestly if I wasn't so worried about recency bias, both Rocket League and Rainbow 6 would probably be higher. I've played both of those a ton.

For Goldeneye, I actually didn't really love the multiplayer. Proximity mines did suck and I always played with a bunch screen-peaking a-holes. I did enjoy the single player a good bit though and liked the game.

Rocket league is in my top 10 all time.  It's just a really fun game.  It's hard to say what makes it so good but it's just super fun.

It's fun because you can pick up and play in minutes. However, it takes a long time to master. My initial euphoria has worn off because i dont have the time to put into the game to get better. I'd love to be able to do half the stuff I see in a match but my brief review of the YouTube basics videos only goes so far.

I still play when I'm killing time but not nearly as much as when I first bought it.

Let's go...  #20-1

20. Warcraft 2
19. Halo
18. COD World at War
17. Max Payne
16. Duke Nukem 3D
15. NCAA Football 2006
14. Red Dead Redemption

9.  Splinter Cell 3 - Chaos Theory
8. NHL 94
7. Portal 2
6. Dark Souls
5. Halo 2
4. Half Life 2
3. COD 4 Modern Warfare
2. The Last of Us
1. Deus Ex (original)

I'm so glad somebody else likes COD World at War. That was far and away my fave COD
COD2 and 3 were just made backwards compatible. I know 4 won't be because they're re-releasing, but I'm hoping for World at War.

Also that game carries a story in my family. I had a meeting where my eventual wife worked, because I had business with her coworkers. So after we had been dating for a few weeks, her coworkers were asking about me and what I liked since I had only interacted with them on a professional level.  She said "he really likes this game... World a... World of Warcraft maybe? Is that a game?"  From then on all these people I did business with called me the world of Warcraft guy no matter how many times I said I never played it. Wife and I went to a movie earlier this year and the world of Warcraft trailer came on and she started cracking up because of that prior situation.

Just picked up the new slim PS4. Not a big gamer but a good use of my $200 directv gift card methinks. What are the must have games for the ps4? Comes with Uncharted 4. I have a PS3 with a few games and loved Uncharted 3 so I'm sure I will love 4 too. Will probably pick up the Nathan Drake Collection and The Last of Us which I have for the PS3 but never played much for some reason. I see it is dirt cheap on Amazon right now. Any other recommendations?

How interesting. I don't think any of your top 10 would be in my top 10 and for the top 20, probably we'd only share 2.

I wish Gears 4 and TF2 were spaced out a little more.  I like to stick with one MP game at a time and by the time I finish one of them all the noobs will be gone from the other one and it will only be the good players left that kick my old ### :kicksrock:

Shooters: Overwatch and Rainbow Six: Seige. Both are online only (essentially) and both are very different but a lot of fun.

There is a Bioshock Collection (Remastered) if you haven't played those. The Witcher 3 is awesome and there is a game of the year edition that comes with all the DLC. Metal Gear Solid 5 is pretty fun. Rocket League seems to be on a lot of people's all time favorite lists. If you want more meta critic or ign have lists that you can sort by rating.

What is TF2?

Like someone else said it's all subjective but Elder Scrolls V Skyrim at 34 is blasphemy to me lol. That's #1 for me, I've sunk more time and had more enjoyment from that game than any other game. I'll be buying the remaster and replaying yet again. It's always really interesting to see how other people rate the games I love. The Rocksteady Batman games are all Top 10 for me as well....but I'm a Batman :nerd:

Here's my top 20.

I go pretty far back - some older PC stuff is on this list. Little RPG heavy.

Anyone ever play the Myth games? They were really fun. And brutal.

  1. Baldur’s Gate 2
  2. Myth / Myth 2
  3. All Pro Football 2k8
  4. Skyrim
  5. Fallout series (back to the PC games)
  6. Heroes of Might and Magic 3
  7. Thief 2
  8. Mass Effect Series
  9. NHL 94
  10. Unreal Tournament
  11. Halo series
  12. Portal 2
  13. Doom 2
  14. Demons Souls / Dark Souls
  15. Morrowind
  16. Dark Queen of Krynn (old PC Gold Box game)
  17. Assassin’s Creed 2
  18. Planescape Torment
  19. Burnout 2
  20. Valkyria Chronicles

I had planned on posting what a horrendous trainwreck BioShock 2 PC is and how it's an awful console port.  It was so bad the game defaults to subtitling in-game signs at the bottom of the screen when you hover your mouse over them because they're practically impossible to read on their own.

Then I noticed that having the original version automatically granted me access to the Remastered version.  Holy gees.  It is so clean and beautiful now, like a totally different game.  It's pretty satisfying to set splicers ablaze with incinerate, then faceplant them with my drill.  Sometimes you'll just start drilling through a herd of splicers and there's blood and guts flying everywhere and it's just really great.  I'm playing it on easy mode so I can feel more godlike.   :bag:

I would have settled for the original console port and finished it; the remastered version by comparison is just immaculate.  It's like a more fleshed-out version of the original BioShock, with better customization and an interesting plotline where you play as a Big Daddy.  bretty good xDDDDD

My top 10 *Off the top of my head.*

1) Red Dead Redemption

2) GTA: Vice City

3) Mass Effect 2

4) Witcher 3

5) Gran Transimo 2

6) CoD: MW2

7) Rome: Total War

8) Super Mario World

9) Command and Conquer: Red Alert

10) GTA: San Andreas

CoD: WaW and Battlefield Bad Company 2 should probably in here.

The Minerva's Den DLC for Bioshock 2 may be the best story DLC I've ever played for any game. It's basically a whole separate (smaller) single player campaign.

Bloodborne and/or Dark Souls 3 if you like those sorts of game (not for everyone)

Rocket League (download it from PSN)

Doom

Until Dawn

My Top 18 in no particular order (actually alphabetical order).  I would have a very difficult time ranking these, and I think there's a pretty clear gap in my mind between these games and the next bucket.  This was an interesting exercise.  What I learned from doing this is that I tend to prefer single-player linear or semi-linear games (like the Souls franchise).  A multiplayer game or open world game needs to be superlatively good for it to crack my upper tier.

Bad Company 2

Battlefield 4

Bloodborne

Bioshock

Dark Souls

Dark Souls 3

Dead Space

Dead Space 2

Demon's Souls

Mass Effect 2

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift

Oblivion

Red Dead Redemption

Resident Evil 4

The Last of Us

Uncharted 1

Uncharted 2

Uncharted 3

Vice City number one? Remember, we gave you Venables, so I feel like I should have some input here
Vice City is awesome. Almost as awesome as Venables!

San Andreas is the one that's missing (I absolutely hated 4 for the record) which is primarily because I never played it all the way through.  There were a coupe of years around that time that I didn't play video games very often so if I didn't pick it up later, I didn't play it.  I made that somewhat arbitrary rule that if I didn't beat it, it didn't make the list which is why you don't see San Andreas and Super Meatboy (too hard for me as this point, but I got close!).

We agree on a number of them, just different ordering. You have a lot of JRPGs and that was just never my thing. I never even owned an SNES, went from NES to Sega to PS1 and on and on.

I never got into the whole JRPG thing too. I missed Nintendo due to age - I was around 19 when it came out, and was way more into other things than videogames. Then when the Playstation came around, it was mostly computer games for me (with consoles being for sports games only).
