Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

Witcher 3?

If I remember correctly you start the dlc stuff for one by looking at a billboard in a town for a mission.  They both add a bunch more stuff to the map.

You want to finish main quest before doing these.
Finish the main game before Blood and Wine- you can do hearts of stone whenever.

Just started to play Witcher 3, figured for 30 bucks with all DLC it was worth it to see if I like it better than 2.

It took a while for me to get into it but once I did, wow.  Great game.  I went down all the alles, did all the sidequests I could, played all the side-games...tons of fun, but I love single player immersive stories like this.

I loved the Gwent.  Got every card, beat every opponent

Big RPG fan, ie DA, FO and Elder Scrolls games, the bigger the sandbox the better. Not a huge fan of the 3rd person but I'll get used to it I'm sure.

ok...drinking and cooking and reading this thread is a bad combo....

just ordered witcher 3 and dishonored 2 for the xbone...

I never looked at Witcher 1 or 2.  Heard they were garbage.  Especially compared to 3
The gameplay mechanics we're limited in 1  and the graphics, of course, seem dated but the world was actually quite expansive and the story was very good even if the voice acting was wooden at times.

2 was awesome. Combat was difficult to master but once you did it was incredible. Well told story and visually stunning too.

Not sure why either would be compared to a next gen game like 3 but both hold up in their own right.

Just got Far Cry Primal as a belated gift from my kids. Guess now I know to hunt down Dark Souls 3 and Witcher 3 on sale somewhere. After finishing up UC4 that came with the system of course.

Man dishonored 2 is taking over my life.
I'm about 10 hours in and on the fourth chapter.  Really enjoying it so far.

So Santa really F'd up this year.  Thought God of War 4 was out on December 29, 2016....so Santa told my 10 year old that it would be a late present.  Later read its December 29, 2017.    So Santa wrote my 10yo a letter and told him of his mistake so we went game shopping Saturday.  He chose Shadows of Modur.  So far, so good.  Looks like a fun game, but I'm not touching it until I'm done with Dishonored2.

So with the Xbox sale I am trying to decide between Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 year and XCOM 2. I am seriously leaning Laura's way thought I'd get a little input from you guys. I really liked the last TR which kind of surprised me because I am usually put off by even a bit of platforming. But it was well done. I didn't play the first XCOM so  I don't have any experience with the series.

Whichever I decide it will be a while before I get to it as I am totally wrapped up in Skyrim SE right now.

God of War for a 10 year old?    Didn't the last one have a part where you pressed buttons to control the pelvic thrusting of Kronos raping a prostitute or something?

Wow Witcher 3 is SLOW....and wtf is this load times with dialogue? I thought Skyrim was bad.
I have read that it is recommended to install this game on your SSD instead of your HDD.  If you are already on the SSD that is the best you can do I think.

With the return of the bachelor I now get 2 hours a week of single players games without getting the guilt trip to play coop games. I know it's a rough life... but I love me some single player Doom/Skyrim/Witcher/Xcom/etc that just never get played.

...When's the next sims expansion come out? That's like a entire single player games worth of time, aka I beat fallout that week last year.

Rise Of Tomb Raider is even better than the first game (which was also good).

XCom just wasn't my thing. Seemed like a game that would take a lot of work to get good at.

My first PS4 game is Uncharted 4 (came with it). Love the series, enjoyed each one in the series. Love the story, puzzles and climbing sequences in this one. But man, I absolutely suck at the gunfights. Each gun battle is essentially, kill a few guys, die. Load screen. Kill a few more. Die. Load screen. Rinse, repeat. I am on one of the final chapters (trying to save Sam) and the game is one tough gun battle after another. To be honest, I hate it. The flow of the story gets totally lost because of the constant dieing, reloading, etc. At this point, I am now just trying to get through it so I can see how the game ends. But it is a chore, nothing enjoyable, which is a shame.

Is there anything I can do to make it easier? I think I saw an auto aim or auto lock on or something. Is that like in GTA, would turning that on help? Because as much as I would love to finish this up, I simply had to turn it off several times now out of complete frustration.

Turn on Auto Aim

Uncharted 4 had some hard ### gun battles even on Normal setting.  Specifically remembering trying to leave the party and having to fight off like 20 guys with only a few small pillars for cover.  IIRC you can set it to Easy and then tweak it back to Normal and IMO there's no shame in that, you might lose a silver trophy or something but life is too short to be mad at a video game.  I used to crush at Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 but reflexes definitely degrade with age and I'm happy just to be able to still hold my own in the FPS space.

Also maybe obvious by now but where you have the opportunity, use stealth as much as you can.  In the more open spaces you can isolate the baddies and then rope off to a different area to regroup.  Once the AI has your location there are usually beaucoup reinforcements en route and they will be really aggressive.

I know I'm in the extreme minority here, but this is the video game thread so here it goes.  I really did not like Witcher 3.  At all.  I kept waiting for it to get good, and then I just started plowing through it for it to end because I felt obliged to finish the game.  I hated playing as Geralt.  His play-style is not the way I approach any of these sorts of games.  The story was not that interesting since I had none of the back-story that apparently makes a big difference.  And the actual game play was garbage coming off Bloodborne.

In other words, it's a fantasy RPG that removes everything I like about Elder Scrolls and everything I like about Souls and leaves behind the worst of both worlds.

I did like Gwent thought.

And also, I've come to really hate on Uncharted 4.

I loved Uncharted 1, Uncharted 2, and Uncharted 3, having platinumed all three of them twice.  Three times in the case of Uncharted 1 if you count maxing out the game prior to the trophy patch.  The strength of this franchise was a light, breezy story with waves and waves of gunfights, interrupted by the occasional platforming section.  Uncharted 4 is a bunch of walking around.  And a dark story with little comic relief.  A total narrative shift from the previous installments.  This is a good example of what happens when you take a fun game and suddenly decide to try to make it "serious."  Just don't.  There is nothing wrong with a fun and lighthearted experience.

Oh yea, I liked the stealth action. Took out some serious groups of baddies using nothing but stealth. But, as I said, I am at a point in the game where that is not even remotely an option. Just wave after wave of baddies, including tons of those heavily armored shotgun and grenade launcher dudes. And you have to keep moving because most of the cover is only wood crates. I will turn on the auto aim, though I may have to restart the whole level just to go after some heavier weapons. I passed on the  magnum handguns and whatnot for things that carried more ammo.

I've tried twice / first time I made it like 8 hours and it was after a Fallout4 play through. I just could not handle anymore point A to point B fetch questing and I quit. Attempt 2 I made it much further, but man I sometimes wish games weren't so long. I did enjoy it and I loved how decisions changed the world in a real way and that those ramifications weren't obvious at the time the decision was made. Like in Skyrim and Fallout, it's really obvious what the good and bad options are, this is much more nuanced. They might seem like good and bad, but both decisions could lead to varying degrees of bad or good or who knows. You just do what you think is best and things happen.

Im going to attempt another try but maybe space it out more so I don't get burned out.

I didn't like Witcher 3 either, or Metal Solid Gear for that matter. I just wrote it off as games passing me by as everyone else seems to love them.
I disliked Witcher 3 as well and never came close to finishing it. Game was too big and I found the leveling system stupid. You could only select a few enhancements due to limited slots. I felt like it was pointless.

MGS4 was great the first few missions until I realized every mission was exactly the same. So repetitive. I couldn't wait to get that game over with. Definitely over rated.

The leveling was like that so that you had to pick a direction in the building of your character.  You had to be either strong combat or strong magic. If you got some of the best armor, such as the feline, you could make a crazy build.  I found the armor and leveling unique and really well thought out.  Not just pick your perk and go.  Blows games like fallout away with the design of the build system.

Agree to a point on mgs4.  It was far too long, but if you liked other MGS games you kinda knew what it was all about. Still one of the best stealth games

On the topic of Witcher 3, I should add that there's no doubt that it's an extremely well-made game, and you can tell the developers poured their heart and soul into this title.  When people say it's their "game of the generation," I get why.  I just didn't like it personally.  I don't like James Joyce either, but I get why others do.

Yeah I might just spend an hour reading through the quest logs and remembering what happened and maybe do a monster hunt to get my attacking mojo back.

I was really loving the game and doing everything I could. Eventually I just got a little burned out.  It happens in most long games for me. I go from watching every cutscene and letting every conversation go, then I start skipping the conversations and fast traveling. That's when I know it's time to step away.
Same here. Witcher 3 is like playing a movie.  So much so that I tend to fall asleep during the long cut scenes.  The production value is very good but it's like every five seconds the action gets interrupted with a five-minute cut scene.  I just don't have that kind of attention span

I put in 80ish hours on Witcher3 last summer and haven't picked it up since.  I do remember getting Geralt laid, and I was enjoying the game.  But then I picked up another game and haven't picked it up again since.  I don't think I hated it, but it lost my interest.

I'm playing FO4 now, maybe by this summer I'll pick up Witcher3 again.

Loved metal gear. It is certainly repetitive but it's open enough that you can attack missions in a bunch of different ways if you want.

I found it to be very emersive and a lot of fun.

There aren't very many long cutscenes. There are a couple at the beginning while they set up the story, and then near the end, but far fewer than a game like Mass Effect and certainly nowhere near something like MGS.

I'm definitely opposed to the open world / MMO style gaming in general. Every game feels like it needs to go in that direction these days but the ones that have pulled it off are few and far between. The reason Witcher falls in that latter category for me is that it does a better job than any other game of wrapping many of those dumb "fetch" side quests with some compelling writing and storytelling.

On Witcher 3 really love the game. Have to start a new character as I didn't really get the best way to use the leveling system and I left myself to spread out for when it comes to boss type fights. Good at a lot of stuff not great at anything.

Ive played just about every Lego game with my son. Lego Marvel, Lego Batman 3, and Lego Star Wars Force Awakens are also great.
The wife and I just started playing this.  Tons of fun.  These lego games (I think we have just about all of them) are a lot of fun.

These have couch co-op right? I've been looking for something the wife and I can play together. She loved co-op Half Life and Serious Sam but I havent found anything in a while she wants to try. And I refuse to Facebook game which is what she does mostly.

if by couch co-op you mean that both of you can sit on the couch and play at the same time, then yes.  All the lego games have this as far as I know.  You can likely get some of the older ones for under $20, used maybe for $10.

I guess so but they seem to happen about every five seconds.
