Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

I guess we're the dinosaurs then that want a great single player experience for games that have traditionally been that. Tacking on Multiplayer just to do it wastes time and money that could have been used making the single player better. But I guess they see micro transactions as a more cost effective way of making their money back even though they ruin a stable franchise.
There’s still those games. Horizon and Zelda are two big games this year. And Mario is still to come. Plus, a smaller Uncharted and South Park.

Yea and they sell. Notice all the common denominators there though. Not EA. Mass Effect is held hostage.

I asked this in the ME: Andromeda thread, but may get a better response here.  I prefer to buy my PC games online now, preferably steam, or Origin if it's an EA game (have plenty between MA and DA).  I've been waiting for Andromeda to go back on sale on Origin so I can grab it (ok yeah I know opinions differ on it, but I'm going to play it, and I think it's worth $20).  My question is for EA games, can you buy a disk copy in the store (BB/Amazon whatever) and then use the CD key to unlock it and download in origin).  I know you can do that with some older games, but I'm not sure on the newer ones.  Anyone know for sure?

Thanks.

Wow. That is disturbing. It says right at the end that Destiny 2 doesn’t use this system. However, I bet the loot drop systems probably use something like this.

Maybe I'm not that in touch with the business aspect but to not only make this system but feel the need to have to patent the system is next level greed.

Cliff Notes?  Can't open the page at work.
Activision has a patent on how to create matchmaking in games that encourages people to buy microtransactions.

Activision says it was only a study and have not implemented the technology in any game.

“For example, if the player purchased a particular weapon, the microtransaction engine may match the player in a gameplay session in which the particular weapon is highly effective,” the text of the patent reads. “This may encourage the player to make future purchases to achieve similar gameplay results.”

So lame.

Oh yes not implemented at all.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

It showed up on shelves with little fanfare but it's a really good game. I'm not quite finished and it is a bit short but the story is good, the controls are perfect, and it's absolutely stunning to look at (and I don't just mean playing as Chloe).

It's definitely better than U4 and I think it's only behind U2 for me. It was on sale over the weekend and it's probably okay to wait for it to do so again, but I highly recommend it to Uncharted fans.
After finishing the game I would sum it up as a "Best Of Uncharted" game. Which means that you'll recognize a lot of gameplay from the first three applied to a new story.

Some people would find it too short but I really enjoyed it.

There was some interesting insight on the Giantbombcast regarding the hackers in PUBG. Whatever cheat they are using allows them to see all players, see through walls and automatically shoot full magazines when the other players are in line of sight.  The kills are converted to points which the hackers use to buy items that they then resale for real world money in the steam store.  The hackers have usernames that contain URL's or other keywords that lead people to their personal sites where they sell the cheat engines. That is why they took down the leader boards.

They are going to have to get that fixed or it may ruin the game. Do we really need a steam store for in game clothing?

This is why I never play the multi-player stuff anymore.  Only play co-op stuff with known friends, certain fps's on known servers, or the single player games.  I can't deal with that crap anymore.

The asus machine is better across the board but note that you won't be able to play AAA titles at high settings even on the Asus.

I play mainly older games on the pc. Newer games on the PS4.

I would use this computer to mainly play WWII Online and Left 4 Dead 2, and even older games.  Hoping it would play WW II Online reasonably well.

What computer has the better video card?

the 560 is slightly better.

Ok, thank you.

Would the Asus be able to play newer games on modest settings?  I've heard a lot about PubG, would maybe like to try that if I could find time.
PubG is not a graphics hog (like say Witcher 3) so yes, on average settings you should be able to play fine I think.

In reality you can play almost any game on low settings, it just depends upon how important graphics are to you.

We have a bunch of PubG players in here, maybe they can let you know what machines they are playing on.

Awesome.  You think $400-450 is a decent price to pay for that asus?  Considering I will only use it for older games mostly.  It's all new parts.  Well, not new, but never used I should say.

seems ok to me.

Do you have a monitor to go with it?
Yeah, I have all that stuff.  I also have another video card I would maybe swap if I do buy it.  In fact, it's the same one that our own Nick Vermeil sent me a couple years back.  Don't know what it is though (can't remember).  I think it's better than whats in the ASUS.  I can also swap out the power supply if need be.

cool.  Use this site if and when you want to compare graphics cards if you intend to upgrade in the future.

Got a Switch a couple of days ago. Bought Zelda and Mario Kart. Pre-ordered Mario so it will be waiting for me when I get home tomorrow. I can't decide if I should fire up Zelda tonight or just wait until I am done with Mario. Normally I can't play more than one single-player game at a time, but I don't want to wait on either one of these.

Zelda is pretty cool.  It got monotonous for me

Agreed but the hard drive NEEDS to be an sdd drive. Doesnt matter the computer, the speed difference is the most impactful factor on PC/laptop buying today. Unless you have the Apple boner.

Cheating in PC MP is so rampant I wouldn't even consider playing MP.

Steam Halloween sale started this afternoon. . .
Man, I must be topped off on games, but there isn't a thing on sale I'm interested in.  I haven't even played Rocket League but one day since the Halloween event started.  Been busy working on home projects.  I'll take a few minutes off to run a game of NBA 2K18, but that's about it right now.

Yea I only beat the first boss so far before we had to go-to a bday party but it feels like a combo between Galaxy and Sunshine. Which is pretty awesome.

Picked up a new release called Bomber Crew - like FTL but more real time and in WW2 as, well, a bomber crew in Europe.

This looked fun, but seemed like it was going to get to frantic and stressful so I didn't pull the trigger.

The new Assassins Creed game (Origins) seems to be getting pretty good reviews. Metacritic has critic review score of 81 and a user of 7.9. For whatever those are worth.

I know the AC games get a lot of hate but I don’t mind them. Seems like a few bugs are a concern (as usual) so it might be a good candidate for a “Wait to Buy” game. Generally, it seems the franchise is taking steps forward instead of backwards with this instalment.

Enjoying the New Mordor game - seems a bit tougher than the original but also feel almost too much like the original.

I loved the original - not sure I make it throught this one all the way

Loved the first 3 games (even with the flaws of the original) but I couldn't make it through Revelations. The story was just too convoluted and it just just more of the same. I think I bought another one (the one where you're a native American) but never played it.

I know some of the most recent games have gotten really good reviews but I think I'm just over the franchise.

Anyone else looking forward to the new COD on Friday?  I will be playing, but my expectations are limited.  I feel I've been getting diminishing returns on my video game time lately.  The combination of my declining hand eye coordination, along with limited enjoyment of playing solo has limited my enjoyment.

I’d say it is worth giving it a shot. It’s not the greatest thing ever but once you get going in a game it is enjoyable enough. It’s the perfect game for slow times. I enjoy it the most when I’ve played enough/sick of multiplayer games.
