Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (2 Viewers)

It’s amazing story-telling. Go into it as blindly as possible with the story, because it’s a roller coaster.
I don't tend to like story driven video games (too many cut scenes kill it for me sometimes) but the genre (post apocalyptic) is by far my favorite story setting so I am really going to let myself get into it.

Same here on the last one.  I even looked up the list of where all those items (there were about a dozen, as I recall) were, and thought "No way I'm going through that again" even though most of the bad guys had (hopefully) been finished.  I couldn't remember which ones I had picked up and which ones I'd missed.

That's said, this is one of my all-time favorite games.
Yea, that was it - one of the 12 or so star shards or something like that, and yes, I had no way of remembering where I got them all, or which ones I missed.

At that point, I was wiping the floor in any battle, so i figured I was done.

So I'm on chapter 14 of evil within 2 and i like it a lot. I think the first game was scarier and had cooler bosses but this game's very fun in its own right and is pretty hard imo. It's semi open world too so it's fun sneaking from house to house looking for items to craft with.

One of the guys that works for me brought up that Target has PS VR for $279 but you have to buy it through some app they have to get that price.  Apparently Skyrim VR is looking incredible.

Played Prey for about an hour. Feels like Bioshock meets SOMA.

Seems like another overly complex gather/inventory/craft system that spoils, for the casual gamer, another potentially interesting game.

Activision's servers have been down since about 3am so nobody really know, lol.
I had the day off and played quite a bit during the day. Like it so far. Weapons send a lot more limited, but given the time frame of the game that makes sense I guess.

My favorite aspect so far was the maps. One was of loading docks in London. Another on the deck of a battleship. The rest, and what I loved, were bombed out cities and bunkers with trenches. The setting was more was like and realistic. I enjoyed it much better than a space age setting.

Maps are small mostly, so you are quick to get in the combat and the fighting seemed balanced.

CD wwii servers working fine today. A lot less success for me in my matches. All those darn kids not being in school really hurts my kd ratio.

Does anybody know of any good party games for the switch other than mario kart? I heard 1-2 switch is just ok, and we have a bunch of people coming for thanksgiving. Wanted to buy something.

I am at the point with WWII that I honestly believe everyone has bullets that kill me with one hit while my bullets take multiple hits. I am also rather sure that my avatar is wearing bright orange hunting gear instead of camouflage.

I bought COD. First few matches I got thumped. Match 4 I went 8/8 so I’m on my way. I’ve never not had a positive KD ratio, but it’s dropped a lot over the years...

CoD4 - mid 20s Marc - ~1.50 KD

BLOPs2 - early 30s Marc- 1.18 KD

COD WW2 - 36 year old Marc -

COD WW2 is the best COD in a long time. I especially like the War mode.

But their servers are a mess. Lots of connection issues not even being able to connect, REALLY long load times, issues in between matches, etc.

And I know my reflexes and coordination aren't what they used to be, but I swear there are crazy lag issues. My internet connection really shouldn't be a problem. I get 70-100 down, 6 up with usually 15-23ms ping. And there are so many gunfights where I die after hitting a guy with 3-4 bullets and on the killcam I never even hit the guy. Or I get hit by a guy that looks like he's around a corner and on the killcam he's not. Very frustrating.

The fact that the COD doesn’t have dedicated servers after all the money they’ve made is a joke. Rainbow Six Siege has them and when you get hit, it’s because you got hit. I remember in the old games I could tell when I was host. My good games on non host would be like 11-8, then out of nowhere I’d hit a stretch of going like 17-5 for a few matches. It was always the host advantage. That split second is everything in this game.

I could be wrong, but I think on PS4 at least, they are using a hybrid system for CoD WW2. So sometimes you'll be on dedicated servers and sometimes peer hosted.

Even with dedicated servers though there's no guarantee that there won't be lag. Developers can do all sorts of stuff to sync games and try to provide an "even" playing field for people who have slower connections or are farther away from the dedicated servers. Those tweaks usually come at the expense of those with better connections.

40 here

Is COD worth it just for the single player?  I have no desire to play online anymore - don't have enough time to get good enough to compete with 10 year olds.  (although I still will play COD 4)

Put me in the camp with the other old fogies playing CODWWII.  The last I looked, my KD ration was .7.  If anyone else wants to party up, have a decent time with some other non teen punk kids, go ahead and hit me up, though I won't be on much with basketball starting now.  Xbox live name is Nittany Dodger.

Everything I have read says it is about 6.5 hours, which is why I doubt I buy it. It'll be an uber long time before the price ever drops due to the MP factor.

How's the new zombie mode in COD WWII? Less of a puzzle than the last one set in the 1920s or whatever? Just good zombie killing/weapon upgrading/door opening goodness? Hoping so.

I ask because my girlfriend loves playing co-op on old COD zombie modes (split screen offline), but we hated the last one that came out. It was super atmospheric being set in the prohibition era with all sorts of supernatural stuff but it was way too complicated. We don't want to solve a mystery, complete rituals, and trial and error our way through the map for 50 hours. We just want to pop it in a couple hours at a time and see how many waves we can kill before dying.

had a free day and was feeling a little nostalgic, so i fired up Borderlands 2 this morning. got in a good 7+ hours and might head back in after MNF.

some really funny dialogue in this game that i forgot about. also, i somehow had three Golden Keys when i started, and spent one when i got to Sanctuary around Lvl10. elemental weapons make such a huge difference, especially at lower levels. still not a big fan of the slag feature, but whatever. found a Legendary grenade mod in a bullymog pile, which spawns 8 grenades after the initial explosion. crowd control is now a non-issue.

In a single round, I got my KD back above 1.00 - went 17-1 and that was after I died immediately and went on the 17 kill run. Admittedly, I’m camping at the start of this, but the video cuts off the guy shooting in the window at me and throwing a grenade. I knew he’d get impatient eventually and come upstairs. The rest is me skirting the outside because I had never played the map.

I don't really play zombies, so my only reaction is of a 2 minute observation of my kid playing it.  He loved the last one, and watched Youtube videos non stop of people playing so he could find out how to do certain things.  I poked my head in to watch him play, and he had not yet watched any videos, but at that time he was running around trying to figure out how to turn some power core thing on.  I'm not sure how much of that stuff is necessary, or if you can just camp and keep killing the hoards as they come.

Here’s a review of the Xbox 1 X for whoever was asking whether it worth the extra $. Seems to confirm what I previously thought, that it’s only really worth if it if you want to take full advantage of a relatively high end TV.

Or just improved graphics and performance in general...

”While the Xbox One X is geared towards users with 4K HDR displays, traditional 1080p TVs aren't entirely left in the dust as some developers may choose to use the extra processing power to improve lighting or to add dynamic shadows. Some games will also run more smoothly on the X. Standard HDTVs will also get supersampling, which renders games at higher resolutions and then down samples or "shrinks" them to a lower resolution display. This acts as an effective form of anti-aliasing that reduces undesirable jaggy effects.”

I mean yeah if you’re buying it for your kid to play Minecraft, get the cheaper older option. If you’re wanting to play newer games on a high end system, you get this.

The conclusion:

”Should you get an Xbox One X? That answer should largely depend on whether you'd be happy with the console's library of games. You can check out a list of all the Xbox One X-enhanced games here. If you're happy with the lineup and are thinking about jumping in, allow me to outline three different scenarios for you. If you game on a 1080p TV and don't have any plans to upgrade to a 4K one, the Xbox One S is going to be a better fit for you. While you will get some graphical enhancements with the X, you don't really get your money's worth if you don't have a 4K HDR TV. But what if you already own a 4K HDR TV and an Xbox One? In this case, I'd only recommend getting the X if you have the disposable cash to spare for the increased visual fidelity and performance benefits. If you have a 4K HDR TV, don't have a current gen console, and are looking to purchase one, however, the Xbox One X is a great choice.”

“it’s not for thecatch.”

Xbox is for ###### little ###### and ######. You ##### ###### ######.

Sorry. All this CoD has been a bad influence on me. :D  **There is no actual swears in that sentence, in case someone is trying to figure it out.

I’m really up and down on what I think of this new Call of Duty. One match everything feels on point then the next it’s like I’m shooting rubber bullets at ghosts. One thing I’m really enjoying is the KillCam. It seems that most shooters don’t do this anymore so it really helps with learning what I did wrong and better positions. Especially if I’m using a sniper class.

I know CoD has been doing this for awhile but I skipped last years game and in prior versions with all the wall running and super jumps and such, it just made the Kill Cams remind me that I don’t have the finger dexterity to complete with jet pack parkour kids. So I guess a more grounded CoD is much better for me.

I'll definitely pick up an XoneX at some point. Maybe early 2018. I'm getting my 4k TV first and both at the same time is a bit spendy :/

Everything I've been reading about this thing is it's the real ####### deal.

Agreed. I think it’ll be better after th first patch.

Agreed,  All things being equal, I should have an average KD ratio of around.9.  I'll be rolling around like that for a while, have what feels like a horrible game, check the score and I'm at 3-12 or some such rediculousness.  I've had (many) exchanges where I unload a smg or shotgun clip on a guy I approach from the back or side, and while I'm reloading he turns to face me and kills me instantly.

My wife grabbed me one as a surprise. It’s pretty nice.  We don’t have a 4K tv yet, but I can still see a difference. Everything is substantially smoother and more crisp. It’s also super fast compared to my old XB1. In every multiplayer cod match, the maps load and I’m the first one in the game by a good 5-6 seconds.

I got the digital download a week ahead of time and had 3 patches before it went live.  They are still having problems with matchmaking and hit detection which would be solved by dedicated servers, but as long as we continue to buy it they will continue to not fix the problems.

Hate the HQ crap and also they need to fix the party portion ASAP...can't join unless invited first and then you can't tell if a game has room before you try to join.  I and different members of my party (never everyone) kept getting timed out and having to rejoin the game and we were on different sides most of the night.

Also, how hard is it to do kill confirmed in HC mode since it is already available in normal?  They waited a few months after launch to add it to the last game also, makes no sense.
