Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (7 Viewers)

I've been playing Pillars of Eternity on PS4.  I like the game in general and how it's like Baldur's Gate and with a pretty long storyline, but the load times are killing the game.  It takes forever to just go into a building or leave a building, let alone go from one area of the world map to another.  Sometimes, especially when I need to explore different buildings or floors in 1 general area, it feels like I am watching a football game.  3 minute of playing time and you get to sit through 10 minutes of commercials.
I want to like this badly, because I love the old Infinity Engine games. But there's something off with the combat. Even with pausing, it feels too fast and chaotic - the enemy is on your spellcasters in an instant, and casting times are pretty long. I may return to it when I have a gaming lull, but it didn't hook me like I expected it to.

No one here has PSVR?  Skyrim VR hitting my mailbox today and from what I've heard, it's an unparalleled gaming experience.  Serendipitously, I'm off work next week (coincidental) and the wife took a last minute week-long trip to Utah to see family, so I have the entire house to myself and no obligations other than putting up Christmas lights.  I'm giddy with anticipation.  Buying three pounds of cold cuts and 2 loaves of bread on the way so I don't have to leave the house for ANYTHING for 6 days.
PSVR guys what would you rate it. Worth it, or is it collecting dust?  Games you like a lot?

I did look at the entry and I had the oil needed, the sign needed, and I think I drank some potion that upped my damage for a certain time.  At that time I was at Level 11, and I think the suggestion next to the missions was Level 12, so I thought it would be a challenge, not 2 swipes and done.   The one thing I didn't have was the moon dust bomb - I don't have the recipe for that one.

One of the baddies was for the mission Swamp Thing - I think it's something with foglets?   The other was Jenny O' the Woods, or something like that.   I think the sing for the wraiths and such is the Trap one that I haven't used and frankly have 0 clue what it does.  I stumbled on a noonwraith that was couple levels higher than I was while wandering, and I don't think I did any damage to that thing and was also killed right away.

Since then, I have hit Novigrad and done some main story missions so I think I am at Level 15 and have 5 more points to add to my character.  I think I have stumbled on better weapons since then, so I might go back and try those Monster Contracts again soon and see if I have any more luck.  I have looked at some Merchants and didn't see the recipe for that bomb, so not sure what to do about that.  I don't use the Merchants a ton, and I am probably missing out on stuff because of that.
IIRC you basically can't hardly damage the wraiths unless they are inside the magic's radius.

Mixed results for me. Some things are very cool, others suffer from poor resolution or control scheme issues. The game makers are still finding their way.

I don't think it was a waste, but I would probably go with a pc based VR first if I had it to do over. Though I suspect PS may have a good selection of games, but not sure how they compare yet.

I think games that worry less about realistic appearance are probably best. Air combat and mech games, etc.

I was disappointed with it using it to view movies, etc.  It is like having a 100" screen, but one that is only 480p.  Caveat: I am a bit of a video clarity snob, others here were fine with things that I didn't like for visual quality.

Yeah, I have found that to be frustrating too.  The priest companion (the crazy guy) gets killed all the time.  One thing to check is that make sure it's not on fast mode.  You can turn it on/off just by hitting the right button so it's easy to get in that mode and not realize you pressed it.

Played my first rounds of PUBG today on Xbox. Already hooked. First couple matches were predictable. Landed near too many people and died almost instantly since they all grabbed stuff faster than me. But I can usually get in the top 20 just by landing way out and working my way back in. I'm loving this game. Can't wait till the controls are second nature.

When I was a kid, I would always ask for video games for Christmas.  Once I knew they were wrapped and under the tree, I would carefully open them, take the cartridge/disk out and re-wrap it the box.  That way, I could be playing the game in November/early December instead of having to wait until Christmas.  My parents never caught on.  All games looked the same to them.  I just had to fake surprise when I opened a game on Christmas morning that I had actually already beaten a week before.  :lmao:

That same temptation is hitting me as I look at what I believe is my Switch wrapped under our tree.  I could replace it with my old PSP and I'm pretty sure my wife would never know.

Same for me bud

I didn't play them ahead of time, but I would carefully open and re-wrap to see what I got.  I did this one Christmas when my mom pitched a fit when I bought TMNT II: The Arcade Game two weeks before Christmas and she apparently thought she already had that under the tree for me.  She didn't.

I bought it but got a refund. I wanted to like it but it felt like slow motion. I went back to Fortnite which I love -on my xb1x I can unlock the framerate and its so smooth.  I will be grabbing it again because I love the concept, I just want the bugs worked out.

Or they knew and we happy that you were being quiet for awhile. :D

I have a lot of hours in Skyrim on the PS3 and on the PS4 so I'm a big fan of the game. Been playing on PSVR quite a bit and I love it. I find it incredibly immersive. Looking around with your head and seeing the world around is awesome.

Like GregR said however, graphics are a step down from regular PS4, which are a step down from PC.

The only other VR game I have tried is The Last Guardian demo. I didn't care for the gameplay at all. Visually it looked impressive but just not my style of game.

I am definitely happy with the PSVR purchase and would buy again if that helps.

They released PUBG patch 2 today, and by all accounts it now performs really well. I (selfishly) bought this for my son for christmas. I'm dying to play this.

OMG!  I did the same thing.  I did that with FIFA soccer on the SNES when I was in Jr. High.  I played it for two weeks before I put it back in the wrapped box so I could open it on Christmas.  I almost forgot about that.  What a crappy kid was I?

I didn't re-wrap them though.  My uncle told me how he used a razor blade to cut the tape and unfold the ends to see what it was.  That's how I did it.  It stayed in the same wrapping paper, I just slid it out of the box and taped it again.

A single Xbox gold account can have up to 3 or 4 additional gamertags associated with it. I have 3 kids and each has their own GT.

I can't believe you guys would do that to your parents. That's just horrible.  I'd never unwrap presents like that early to find out what they were.

I always checked them before they got wrapped.

Do not buy "The Goat Simulator". My 7yr old loves it and I cannot believe what I am seeing. Laughing with tears.

You actually are a Goat. And ram stuff. Who in the holy hell thought of this ####?

Yea my kids been playing since they were 5. Game is just pure nonsense but some stupid fun.

Here is the description for Goat Simulator on GameRankings.com:

Goat Simulator is the latest in goat simulation technology, bringing next-gen goat simulation to YOU. You no longer have to fantasize about being a goat, your dreams have finally come true! WASD to write history. Gameplay-wise, Goat Simulator is all about causing as much destruction as you possibly can as a goat. It has been compared to an old-school skating game, except instead of being a skater, you're a goat, and instead of doing tricks, you wreck stuff. Destroy things with style, such as doing a backflip while headbutting a bucket through a window, and you'll earn even more points! Or you could just give Steam Workshop a spin and create your own goats, levels, missions, and more! When it comes to goats, not even the sky is the limit, as you can probably just bug through it and crash the game. Disclaimer: Goat Simulator is a completely stupid game and, to be honest, you should probably spend your money on something else, such as a hula hoop, a pile of bricks, or maybe pool your money together with your friends and buy a real goat.

UGH....after 24 hours of downloading games, here is this year's haul:

Skyrim 5 (The youngest wanted it, no idea, yet)

Battlefront 2---Like it so far. We shall see.

Destiny 2---Outstanding

Forza 7--Outstanding

Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2--Highly suggest for younger kids

Still playing GOAT Simulator...

The Xbox game pass is only $1 for the first month. Pretty much a steal. Lots of good older games. Would suggest.

Wife gave me Star Wars Battlefront 2 for Christmas, that was an unexpected surprise! Now if I could just find some time to play it.

It was initially just a trailer that they made as a joke. There was such a positive response to it that they made it into an actual game. I love creative stuff like this. This is the kind of stuff for perfect for indie games.

My first impression as well, then I got burned out after the playing the heck out of it for a while and put it down.  Played again last night for a while and it is enjoyable, but not something I would pour money in to (no season pass for me for the first time in several COD games).

Gustav Cannon map is teh suck.
Love Gustav Cannon. One of the few larger maps in the game.

The War game mode is fantastic IMO. Just wish there were more than 3 maps for it. It's a game mode where people who play it actually try to play the objectives instead of worrying about K/D, scorestreaks or spawn camping.

The spawn system is a mess though in the other modes. The maps are so small that spawning is a mess. And in Domination, the game mode I play the most outside of War, it takes way too much to flip spawns. Which makes spawn trapping happen way too much and incentivizes way too many people to vote for super small maps and just try to spawn camp the entire game.

And the connections can be brutal. Everyone someone me shows 3 bars all the time and yet there is very obviously lag affecting the game. And I'm tired of lag compensation benefiting players with bad connections. Rinse and repeat for every COD ever.

The reason I hate Gustav Cannon is that is severely limits the style of play for the map.  It is geared to snipe since it is so large, the lines of sight are long, there are multiple obvious sniping spots, etc etc.  Most of the other maps will allow for multiple styles of play, so I can switch it up from game to game.  Not here.   If you run into a game where everyone is a quick twitch sniper, and you have little chance to out snipe them, you'll just get toasted.  The other maps offer a counter to sniping, but not here.  There is no safe corridor to run around in close range combat without camping, because almost the entire map is snipable.

I play pretty much strictly team deathmatch because I've found the other game modes rely to heavily on teamwork, which is non existence unless you are in a party.  Playing other game modes may change my view on the game as a whole, and individual maps.  However, when I log in and have a few minutes to play, I want a chance to be average, not a huge detriment to my team, and still have a chance to win.  I haven't found that too often with the objective based games.

I did some War when it first dropped.  It was a decent game mode, and should probably put a little more time into it.

I have often wished I was a goat.  I am glad we now have the technology to grant me the closest thing to my wish.

Microsoft's website sucks a big one.  Trying to add gift cards to my kids' accounts has been a giant PITA.  Assuming their server is getting overrun, but the response is terrible and when I finally get into my account it says the redeem screen is down.

 Loved it the first couple weeks. I just don't like it anymore. Think I'll trade it in soon. The score streaks this version are a big bust, boring and unimaginative. I get it's WWII, but I guess I like a little more excitement with my CoD games. Black Ops 1 is still my gold standard for CoD. Played the s*** out of that.

Has anyone ever bought a game from Redbox? I saw Dark Souls III in my area for $4.99! But I wonder if there's high probability of a damaged DVD or anything like that?

Question about Xbox gold

Is there a family account option or if I want each of my kids to have access do I need to pay 3x per month?
Just set up the other accounts as family accounts and it's a pay once option now.  Best thing they've done, especially since most games require an actual account these days and guest accounts don't work anymore.

My lag is terrible as well.

If my kids got an Xbox for their Mom's house, and I have one at mine, can I add them to the family account via Log-In, Password, Email? They got Xbox Gold and a gamertag and I would like them to be able to use the $75000 I've spent over the years at their Moms. I set them up with one for the 360 but can't remember squat from 5 years ago. I assumed they set up a new account this weekend to fire up the Xbox 1.

Seems pretty simple to set up with the proper information.

I'm working my way through The Evil Within 2.  I played for a couple of hours a few weeks ago and then put the game down for a bit because I had too much going on at work to play when I got home.  It's probably not the best sign when "playing video games" is too exhausting to be an after-work activity.  But in the last few days I've knocked out about 75% (?) of the game, and it is really fantastic if you're into this sort of thing.  Like the first game, it feels like Resident Evil 4.5, but it's an improvement in every way over the original.  Better story-telling (you can skip the first and jump right into this), better graphics, better FOV and frame-rate, better level design, etc.  At this point, I plan to fire up a second run, either a higher difficulty or NG+ as soon as I finish this one.

It provides a nice mix between big sandbox "do what you feel" levels and linear "do what we say" levels.  Both are well-designed.

A word about difficulty.  TEW was seriously hard even on "normal" which I kind of liked but it was a little weird by modern standards.  In this game, "normal" is not too bad and I would say the difficulty has been scaled back a bit for a broader audience.  I'm playing on that level and more or less breezing through by comparison to the first game.

yes, as long as you are not logged in at the same time on both systems.

Obviously games you have downloaded to your xbox at your home are on that hard drive and not on the new on at their moms house.

What about disks? Add them to a family account and let them borrow the disks? Judging by this, my guess is, no.

yes discs you can use.  You have to go through the full install process on the new machine but once it is installed they can play at will (again, as long as they are only logged into one box at a time with the same tag).

I guess that is my question. They have an entirely different gamertag and account. At the very least they could just pirate my games and we can jump online together. I would squash the family option.

This is where buying digital works best. I buy all my games on my gamertag. I set my sons XBox as my home XBox so all my games are available to anyone who plays on my XBox (my son) and available to me on any Xbox I log into.

"Finished" Mass Effect Andromeda.  I think.  Says I'm only 48% completed, but I'm done with all the major quests (and the big one to end it all).  I was pretty anal and had done all the side assignments, too.  I did see more new planets pop-up, but wth is the 52% of content that I haven't done?  Sure hope its not mindless tasks.....

My 13 yo is playing it and just does the big assignments.  Wonder if he finished +/- 30% completion.

Kids got Battlefront Star Wars II (they like it so far), Lego Avengers II (looks very cool), Uncharted Lost Legacy, Dishonored Death of Outsider, and the Castelvania twin pack (for me).  Should I play New Order or Old Blood first?

I asked before, I'll ask again.  Any Xbox One owners who play NBA Live 18 and/or Madden 18?
Despite telling myself I would skip it again this year I bought Madden a couple of days ago during the countdown sale for $24.

Why are you asking, would you like to catch a beat down from one of your FBG brethren?
