Well just saw a deal on slickdeals 15% off on the site Rakuten which I applied towards the Switch plus they don't charge sales tax for some reason. So got the Switch + Mario Odyessy for 330 total. Doubt I'll get much better than that. Now to figure out when I will give it to my son. Hes been saving his allowance for it. I told him I'd pay for half. So far he only has $50 saved.

Got my 25th fortnite victory. Such an addicting game where different strategies can vastly change the outlook.
Ive been playing duos with my brother. When we get to the final grouping of teams, he builds a mega base while I lay low behind a hill or tree. The other team always assumes both of us are in there and when they start shooting, I flank. It’s worked a lot better than us both staying in the base.

I play squads with randoms mostly. About 50% of the time they all drop at Tilted Towers (damn COD kids). At that point I strike out on my own to Junk or Flush...purposely on the outskirts. My squad dies before the first circle, and I stay along the storm the whole game. I think I’ve won squads a dozen times, usually by myself.
This game is amaze balls.

Yeah it’s a blast. I was playing duos the other day and it got down to the final two - I guess I caught the last guy off guard because he shot a rocket into the ground and blew himself up.

I think I'm going to have to give Fortnite a shot. My boys play, and get into squads with their friends online. Could be epic to actually play cooperatively in a game like this with people who know what they are doing.

Been a while since being around these parts. Been playing a ton of Fortnite for a long time. The wife and I have about 25 duo wins and we probably have around 100 wins overall. I have had a few 12+ kill games and we managed a 25 kill squad game once and lost. Love the game and building/destruction but don’t like many of the color adjustments they are making. Can’t wait to see how the game shakes out. So fun and versatile. :waves:

Did my best to like Monster Hunter but it’s not my thing. Chase a monster around for 20 minutes collect some loot. Then do the same dance with the same monster 20 more times so I can get better gear to find a different monster. At which point the same loop starts again. The deep (but complicated) systems are interesting but if it’s just a tech building since I don’t enjoy the hunts then there’s probably other games that are more enjoyable that specialize in that (basically any management sim).

about 20 or so games in to NBA2k18
playing on Pro level is so difficult as to make the game not enjoyable. the computer doesn't miss open shots, doesn't cough up fast break points, powers through every double team and makes every put back.
Devon Booker had back to back turnaround 3 pointers with a man in his face. i can't even make a layup half the time.

Been playing Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. I'd played the original on 360 back in the day but never got very far because I upgraded to PS4 not too long after picking it up.
So good. Very quirky (to be expected of a Western-style open-world action RPG from a company without experience in that genre). But the way you can switch classes at any time and keep Augments from each to strengthen your character overall is very cool and encourages a variety of play styles, a long and deep playthrough rather than multiple restarts, and different party compositions (the cool factor of the Pawn system could be another whole post from me, but suffice to say it's a good way to handle a revolving cast of support characters in the adventuring party).
I really hope they make a Dragon's Dogma 2. I assume they remastered the first one on this gen of consoles to see if there was interest.
Edit: I guess if I'm going to say nice things about a game in a way that could be taken as a recommendation, I should also admit that the story kinda sucks and the quests are pretty basic. And even as a remaster the graphics aren't beautiful (other than spell effects).
BUT--the combat is the best of any 3rd person fantasy action RPG ever imo. If you can just be cool being a mercenary monster hunter without much interesting purpose in an open world, you'll love the gameplay. A very cool day/night cycle where being outside at night is very difficult and deadly. A deep (if micro-managey) inventory system with a simple but good crafting/upgrade system. If you're the type who loves 3rd person fantasy combat and finagling your gear and inventory a lot and seeing what every new armor/weapon/clothing looks like, you're in luck.

I’ve been playing this all night so I’ll post a more in depth review when I’m not so tired.
I really like it so far. I’m uncharacteristically playing a “good guy” so far so and I’ve been doing mostly main quest stuff so I haven’t really dug into everything.
Ill say the negatives is some reviews are VERY overstated and obviously from players who didn’t play long enough. For example, there’s been a lot of complaining that the game doesn’t let you save (without drinking expensive positions), so much so that they’ve promised to address it and it’s ridiculous. The game saves all the time. It saves after after and often times during the middle of every quest. It saves every time you sleep.
Peipel also complain that the combat is hard. Well you start off sucking at everything. Once you level up your skills it opens everything up including combos.
theres probably 80 or more perks, many having to do with alcohol.
There’s some clipping and a bug or two like most massive rpgs but I love the game so far.
TL/DR - It’s great. Not as polished as Skyrim but the combat is a thousand times better than any first person game with melee weapons.

I’ll also add that this game has easily the coolest monsters/enemies of just about any game I’ve ever played. Epic bosses.

I enjoyed this a lot, too, and hope they make another one. The pawn system was great, allowing you to constantly swap out two party members, which worked very well with the "change professions whenever you want" playstyle. When you're a two-handed tank, your pawns are ranged/mage. Then when you switch to mage, pick a few tanks to take with you. Best spell effects I've ever seen as well - mages are a force to be reckoned with.
If they made a second one, I'd like your main pawn to have a little more story behind it. That's about the only part I felt lacking.

Had some friends over and decided to look for a "Mario Party" type game on the PS4. We ended up with "Jackbox Party Pack 4" and it was really fun. It had 5 different game modes and all were great (although one of the modes was made for more than 4 players... wasn't that great with only 4). It was $25 but well worth it.

Is this the game where you draw stuff on your phone and it’s linked to your tv? We had a blast with that over Christmas. It was basically me and my brothers just ripping into my dad.

That was one of the game modes. It just ended up being a bunch of peckers because none but one person could draw.
How are the load times? I saw one review where the writer was complaining about it being slow even on the One X.

Nowhere near as bad as Skyrim where I actually had problems falling asleep while waiting.

Yeah I need to get back into this. The controls are a little clunky on keyboard and mage casting could have been designed a little better.
That being said, the size and scale on the mage spells is some of the craziest #### I've ever seen in a video game hands down. I laughed hysterically the first time I caught a group of ogres in a tornado spell. Godlike!

Yeah, I could see that one being really rough on keyboard/mouse, I really enjoyed the controls on console. Granted I bet the same could be said for witcher games that I only play on PC.
I loved being able to climb those monsters to attack them at different points. Lets you have huge enemies that seemed "realistic" (ok big stretch of the word...) but it just feels stupid when you walk up to a giant creature and just swing your sword at his ankles.

Sorry for this both taking so long to get up and being so long. It’s been a super busy time at both work and home. We’ve had a few play sessions so I’ll try to get caught up this week.
The Sage of Tornado Man: Episode 5: Fart clouds and Falcon Heavy
After the defeat of Maghda, the group journeyed to Bastions Keep, which has become the main front in the war against Azmodan, the Lord of Sin. Azmodan has set his eyes on the Black Soulstone, which he believes will help him become the Prime Evil. Tornado Man was having none of that.
As the group entered the Keep, they found it under siege by Azmodan’s war machines. The first order of business was to rally the troops and then secure and fortify the defenses.
We set off to rally the troops who had been demoralized by the constant bombardment of the enemy’s siege weapons. This would be done by lighting several signal fires along the walls of the Keep. That task was apparently beneath Tornado Man who, once he found out what we were doing stated, “Can’t someone else do that? All they need is a match”. His actions betrayed his words however as he insisted that he personally be the one to light all of the signal fires. The one time Tornado Mom lit one, Tornado Man almost lost his Diablo privileges for the night by being a poor sport. He would turn it around and luckily for Tornado Dad and Mom, the Keep walls are near impossible to get lost in so this task was done very quickly (relative to other quests in the past... and future). With the troops rallied, the task of securing the defenses came next.
Securing the defenses consisted of raising several catapults along the walls. Tornado Mom and Dad were ecstatic as this meant another area where it was near impossible to get lost. Tornado Man proved the hero again as he insisted on personally completing all actions which required some sort of player interaction with the catapults. While his weaker party members were dispatching hundreds of foes, Tornado Man was clicking over and over on a wheel that would crank the catapult up to the top of the wall. Once complete, Tornado Man made sure to bring up how, “I did all the work and you guys just had to wait for me.”
Upon their victorious return to the central tower of the Keep, the group discovered that while the walls were being fortified, Azmodan had discovered a way to get his minions into the bowels below the keep. While Tornado Man acknowledged the urgency and importance of this task, he made a great leadership decision to ensure we took the time to prepare for our journey (read: he equipped all of his items and dyed them all Broncos colors). With preparations at last complete, we delved into the underbelly of the Keep.
Now, for those who have not taken this journey before, let me describe the layout of the catacombs beneath the keep. As straightforward as the journey on the Keep walls was, the maze below the Keep was clearly designed by a gamer hating narcissist. There are multiple places where you can fight for 10 minutes in one direction, only to deadend and have to walk back to the last intersection. I cannot stress enough how frustrating this map was. I hope whoever designed it was inside the Tesla that was shot into space on board Falcon Heavy. Adding to the terrible map design, if getting lost in a dungeon were a sport, Tornado Man would be heavily favored to win gold. As a matter of fact, he’d probably finish with silver and bronze too, if he EVER ####ING FINISHED AT ALL. This quest area was absolute hell... and there are THREE levels of it to navigate through. Shortly into the second level, Tornado Mom fell asleep at the controller and was pulled through the rest of the dungeon. These three levels took approximately 90 minutes.
Eventually we found the lieutenant controlling the army within the walls. Ghom, Lord of Gluttony. Ghom is a giant stomach with a mouth in the middle of it. Upon seeing his enemy, Tornado Man shouted, “ewwwwww... gross!” He then proceeded to laugh at the “fart clouds” that Ghom attacked with every 5 or so seconds. Tornado Man would accompany each new cloud with a Minions-esque, “thbbpbbptt” and laugh. Like Tornado Dad, Tornado Man is classy as ####. Soon Ghom would be defeated and the warriors would return to the central tower of the Keep.
At this point, it was well past Tornado Man’s bedtime. Tornado Dad helped Tornado Man get ready for bed and tucked him in. Tornado Man ended the tuck ins with a, “thbbpbbptt…. hahahahaha”, as Tornado Dad was closing the door.
In addition to being the designer of the "Hanoi Hilton" level of Diablo 3, whoever designed that level can add c0ckblock to their official resume as Tornado Dad tried to put the moves on Tornado Mom but his advances were in vain as she’d already entered the REM stage of her sleep while muttering something about “another damn dead-end”. To whoever that designer is: I hope you enjoy a slow, painful death in the cold depths of space, **** head.

I’m unavailable when this game comes out but it looks interesting. Graphics are a bit behind the times in spots but I really like the premise. Does it have some type of branding tree story or is it a playthrough once kind of thing?

Just started working on Shadow of the Colossus PS4 remaster. Beautiful game. I've played it on PS2 about 4 years ago but only got up to Colossus #8. So this entire back half and the ending (allegedly one of the greatest endings in all of gaming) will be all new for me. Really fun and enjoying it. Again, incredibly beautiful.
