So I picked up Subnautica Below Zero based on a recommendation and….I don’t get it. No map, no idea what to do next, constantly running out of air, water or food; or batteries dying in tools. This thing got great reviews, but I’m not sure I can go on. Am I missing something?
How did that turn out?
For you or anyone reading, Below Zero is the second game in the series. The goal is to escape. I finished both Subnautica games and thought they were great fun.

@MTskibum mentioned, you really have to start at first just figuring out how to survive a little bit longer each time. At first you'll find yourself on death's door because you couldn't grab that bladderfish fast enough, but will reach a point later where you are living comfortably, all stocked up on basic needs, and can spend more time figuring out what happened on that planet, and how to get off of it. Look at everything. Watch everything...the animals, the moons, atmosphere. There are clues to survival but you have to pay attention, sometimes notice patterns, etc. Read every new entry that shows up in your tablet. Some things are less dangerous than they appear, and some are more.
I will say several things stumped me and I had to ask the internet. More so in
Below Zero than in the original, actually. If you just aren't into spending the amount of time you think it would take to figure it all out, the
fandom wiki has everything you need to know to win the game. They do a decent job of hiding spoilers, too, IIRC, so if you're just stumped on a thing you can get help then continue figuring everything else out for yourself. There are maps online if you're feeling cheat-ish. There are in-game tools for keeping your bearings and sense of direction...but you'll have to figure out how to acquire the tools you need.
Just talking about it makes me want to replay it.
