Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

Just getting into Zelda but it's hard to get past how bad the graphics are compared to PS5 games.

Graphics have been as good as they ever need to be for going on a quarter of a century now and have never been a critical factor in a game being good. Unless they are so clearly terrible to make the game unplayable, caring about that sort of thing is hilarious
You caring about what I care about is hilarious

It looks fine to me? I mean obviously it’s not the PS5 but everybody knows that.

I think Zelda's colors on my big screen OLED look amazing.

I also think the graphics are noticeably bad, but they do not interfere with gameplay. The map is huge and very detailed. Would be nice to see it bit better, that's all.

Zelda is great. People on the internet are complaining that it's too difficult. It definitely is harder than the first one, but this game pretty much defines "go and do something else and come back later". People use that phrase for Elden Ring, but it really doesn't make sense all the time in that game. In Zelda, you really can just go down another rabbit hole entirely.

Also, the plot structure is better than BOTW. In the first one, you know exactly what the world state is and what your end goal is. In this, it's a mystery, at least in the beginning.
I’m not gonna get into it until early next year probably but I’ve been watching my stepson play a ton since it came out. It seemed to me like the tutorial area was much larger and more difficult to figure out what the hell to do when compared to BOTW, which I think is driving a lot of these “too difficult” takes.

The physics in this game are truly incredible. Say what you will about Nintendo’s business practices, how aggressive they are with respect to piracy, etc. but these MFers can make a video game

Nah the difficulty early on is definitely up a notch overall. Regular bokoblins can one or two shot you. The game definitely puts a lot of importance on upgrading armor. Once you do that, it becomes more reasonable.

The tutorial area is a bit longer though. The puzzle mechanics are a bit more complicated too. But once you make your first giant penis out of fusing a log and two boulders together, taking on tougher enemies becomes easier.

Elmer of the Briar is just wrecking me at the Shaded Castle.

Following a walkthrough by Figting Cowboy. I was playing as he played sorta using him as a scout ahead but it felt like a chore. I still play along on the overworld stuff but once we enter a dungeon I pause the video and play blind. Then I’ll check to be sure I didn’t miss anything crucial afterwards.

Played through Super Mario World for the first time in at least a decade last weekend. Certain bits weren't quite as easy as I recall but the game throws so many lives at you there's basically no challenge to the game. Going to try to replay through quite a few classic titles before the autumn and sport starts again, probably look to Super Metroid on Monday

I bought Breath Of The Wild back in 2017 and never played it. Kept getting into other games.

Now that TOTK is out, I've decided to get into it.

Absolutely love it. Hooked on it. Started playing at 10 PM after the Celtics/Heat and next thing I know it's 2 AM.

Make sure you finish this before even looking at TOTK gameplay. You will not want to go back to BTOW.

Those are always fun to play through every 10 years. I played through Super Metroid a couple years ago and got to frustrated and I had to cheese it and look at online maps, even though I did not need to use the maps when i was a kid.

I am currently playing the remaster of Pokemon Diamond with my 2 kids.

We take turn doing the pokemon battles and we also take turn doing the reading. There are tons of people in the game to talk to, it is practically a book. It is helping my 6 year old learning reading this summer, or at least that is why i am trying to convince my wife.

I have never played a pokemon game, and for those of you who havent they are a very basic old school JRPG. Think final fantasy 2/3 for SNES. Except instead of a group of people in your party you only have 1 pokemon to control at a time.

Trying for s+ re4 on pro. It's a monster
Good luck. This is one of those challenge runs that I think I'm going to just pass on. I really don't like having to watch my time, and this run in particular seems like it would cause me to break a controller or two.

im already on ch10 in around 3 hours. only 4 saves left. its really fun. you have to get the Chicago typewriter though with infinite ammo. which is a giant pain

I had to step away from Elden Ring--I just wasn't enjoying myself. Went over to some mindless PGA 2k23 to pass the time while I wait for Diablo.

The first one for the SNES? Lol, much harder than I remember. I got stuck and couldn’t figure out where to go the last time I played. IIRC I needed to find a secrete colored brick to open up more areas.

Probably 3/4 through Elden Ring.

Not sure why everyone thinks this is the best souls game. It’s a lot of copy and paste. Gameplay of great. Graphics are great. Environments are good, not great.

I would take level design like DS 1 over this every day of the week.

I haven’t played Diablo since the first one, but every time a new one comes out I spend a week internally debating whether I want to jump back in. I think I might actually do it this time.

I never really got the hype. I tried a later one once based on the general fervor in here. I honestly felt like I must have been playing a different game than everyone else. It just seemed like a mindless hack and slash thing to me.

I know I'm supposed to be excited for Starfield, but it's actually been a really long time since Bethesda made a legitimately top-tier game. Skyrim, maybe, but that game had highly-simplified RPG mechanics that compared very unfavorably to Fallout New Vegas (not a Bethesda title, tellingly). And Bethesda is famous for shipping semi-broken games at launch. There is absolutely no way I am preordering this one. I might pick it up shortly after launch, but I'm very skeptical of this title.

That's the Xbox only one, right? That's the reason I'm not getting. Not buying a system just for one game and dont want to support games that don't have wider releases.

I think it looks great, but there is absolutely no reason that anyone should be preordering games these days. There's no benefit to when everyone can download them digitally, and some games (especially RPGs) I thought for sure would have been awesome out of the gate, like Mass Effect Andromeda and Cyberpunk, were historic trainwrecks.

I get the impression Bethesda is really confident with what they have in Starfield. What they presented is VERY ambitious, though. Here’s the link to their presentation:

It’s available on Gamepass day one. I’m very excited and optimistic.

DS1 had the best level design of any game, ever. The amount of surprises, varied areas, twists and turns, and how it all wrapped up around itself was brilliant. We'll never see it again.

Up to Level 62 in Elden Ring and still very much a noob when it comes to learning how to roll, figure out enemy movements, etc. I'm stubborn so I'm still going the Mage route, but I'm managing and my wandering has found me some good stuff for beginners in addition to getting me killed A LOT. So far it's been a blast cruising around places I shouldn't be in and finding sites of grace as well as goodies. This place is kind of big, and my learning curve is steep enough that I have no idea when I'll actually tackle Stormveil Castle. I've done some minor bosses but so far none of the big ones.

The post above me mentioned Stormveil, those legacy dungeons are pretty damn close.

just realized obisoft is making an open world star wars game. that should be good
Trying to finish up Jedi survivor now. Close to the final boss. Great story.

yes I m playing it again right now on grandmaster. trying out the blaster stance. I didn't try it previously. wish I had. its the best one.
Man good for you. I can barely beat the bosses on Padawan.

Almost 3/4 through. Haven't died. I'm a geek

Lol I liked parts of the last trilogy but yea this is better. Greez is my guy.

Man, I'm just throwing away runes trying to clear stuff and explore in Elden Ring. You'd think I'd be a little smarter when I'm THIS close to going up another level and just grind out that last few thousand, but nooooo, gotta charge right in some new area and get blasted, then killed again before I can get back in to grab the runes back.

I don't play a ton of video games anymore, but my son bought Zelda TOTK awhile back and I started playing it and absolutely love it so far. It's a perfect mix of exploration, story, side quests, puzzles, and difficulty level for me. The only issue I ran into is that I simply could not get the hang of playing TOTK (especially the grab/rotate mechanic) with the JoyCon controllers for some reason. I almost gave up entirely and quit playing, but ended up buying the Nintendo Pro Controller and that has worked great for me.

Lots of streamers playing "Only Up" the past few days.

Pretty sure it would cause me to smash my keyboard within the first 2 hours

One way to fall out of love with a game is to commit to a 100% play through of it and then have it take 3-4 hours longer than expected due to minor game glitches and general incompetence on the part of the player. Vice City, I'm looking in your direction

For any old school CRPG geeks, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is about as close to Baldur's Gate II as any game has ever gotten. It has that same epic scope, all kinds of voiced NPC's/party members, and the combat works extremely well - it's both real-time-with-pause and turn based, and can be seamlessly switched on the fly, even in the middle of a battle. This is great for quick battles against weak mobs - just let your party chew them up quickly in real time, but for other tougher battles you can switch back and forth at will.

It also has a separate "crusader" mode which is similar to the battles in Heroes of Might and Magic III (it's HOMMIII-lite). Basically before your adventuring party can access new areas, your armies need to go capture forts and drive away demon armies. This part is basic but fun (HOMM vets will steamroll through it), but if you don't like it you can let the game completely manage it.

The game is on both PC and console. I had ignored it for awhile because the previous Pathfinder game (Kingmaker) had a billion bugs on console, with no fixes. Come to find out the developer doesn't have the rights to it, and the publisher has zero interest, so it was abandoned. But this one is solid, and has had a ton of support. There are a few things I don't like (the resting mechanic is annoying), and I am somewhat unfamiliar with the "Pathfinder" system (but it was spawned from DnD, and is close enough with many of the same spells/feats/etc). Its held my interest enough to make me put off my planned Diablo 4 purchase until I finish it.

I loved BG2 back in the day, and tried all the clones since then - this one is the best by far. The Divinity Original Sin games are good, but lack the same character development as BG2 had, plus every battle is pure turn based so they can take awhile (#2 also annoyed me because every battle felt like an exploding barrel puzzle). The Pillars of Eternity games... meh, the combat just wasn't fun. I am looking forward to BG3, but it's by the Divinity folks, and I'm somewhat hoping it's not the same "exploding barrel" puzzle-fest.

Thought about grabbing AEW video game for my oldest who is 12. I used to play No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000 when I was around his age and apparently it's the same arcade style.

It's an amazing game. I'm probably a good 30 hours into it and feel like I'm probably not even a quarter of the way through everything, and I still can't wait to play it every day.

I play exclusively on the Pro Controller. (I can't play handheld. I'm too old and prefer seeing everything on a TV screen.) I had to remap the buttons, though. I'm so used to the PlayStation/Xbox layout, where the bottom button is "confirm" and the right button is "go back." It's reversed under the Nintendo settings, and it drives me nuts. So I remap the buttons for when I play, then my kids switch it back every time they play, and then I have to change it back again when it's my turn.

About halfway thru Callisto Protocol. I never played Dead Space, so I was going in with a blank slate.

This game really isn't as bad as the hate that it got. Combat is repetitive, the constant jump scares get predictable after the 2nd chapter, and it's incredibly linear....but it's enjoyable for its current price. I got a brand new Day 1 edition at Gamestop for $30 (that's regular price), so I get extra credits to build up my weapons. Considering this is a very short game, I can live with that.

The game looks absolutely incredible, I'm playing on my OLED and the lighting, textures...*chef's kiss* If this is the future of gaming as far as visuals go, I'm stoked.

Still undecided if I'll hand out the $15 for the recent "final chapter" DLC.

The disc version of Jedi Survivor, a game I’ve been looking to buy, is $25 off today, and I’m leaning toward not buying it because I hate having physical media around. I guess I’m all in on the digital age.
