I think GTA6 is going to be a game changer and possibly not for the better. There is a lot of chatter that the price-point could be three figures for this game. I remember paying $29.99 for a game and thinking that was a lot and now it is pretty standard to pay $69.99. If GTA6 comes out at $149 or even $199, it is going to be interesting to see what that does to initial sales
**** that.
Never.....never for me will I ever pay that for a video game.
It's interesting because video games have been like the most inflation resistant thing in existence. I remember buying Mario 64 for $60 in 1996. A typical AAA game was still $60 up until about a year ago, almost 30 years later.
And it made me very sad to type that 1996 is "almost 30 years ago".
I have also learned to be extremely patient in waiting for blowout sales. I don’t have to have a game on release. The only two I bought this year on release were:
BG3 and boy what a game.
Madden 24 - Last time I ever buy Madden on release......I am finally done with yearly sports titles. I have been playing MLB The Show 20 for going on 5 straight years now and will not ever leave that one.
NBA 2K23 will be my go to basketball game for years and years.
So yeah.......I typically get all my AAA games under $25 now and as low as $2-$5 lol. It pays to wait.
Gaming really is the most ridiculously good value there is in enjoyment for the money by so, so much.
Between F2P games like Rocket League that I still play regularly, and Xbox Game Pass which comes out to like $3/mo with the right deals, it's amazing to get so much enjoyment out of something that costs so little.
It's crazy to think about. I'll drop $300 for an afternoon at the local theme park with the kids for like 4 hours of enjoyment, or $100+ for bowling or a movie these days for like an hour or two of fun.
I've probably not spend $300 on gaming in the last 3 years combined and over that time have gotten THOUSANDS of hours of enjoyment out of it.
