UPDATE: The Vikings also had WR Javon Walker in for a tryout this morning, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Walker was cut by the Raiders in March.

A Favre/Walker reuniting? This may speak more about the troubles they could have if Sidney Rice has to go under the knife, when he should've done so in the off-season. Throw in the Percy Harvin headaches too. Bernard Berrian is looking very inviting from where I stand. The rest of the cast is Jaymar Johnson, Marko Mitchell, Taye Biddle et al.

WHY WASN'T THERE A BREAKING EMAIL ALERT ABOUT THIS?!?!
This isn't big news yet. If he signs, that's one thing, but this is just a tryout right now. Even if he signs, how effective can he be? That's debatable. I wouldn't put too much interest in this right now.

Turns 32 in October

2004-89/1382/12Tds, Favre was of course throwing him the ball too.

2005-Knee injury 1st week of the season, gone for the year.

Was seeking a lot of money at the time, GB decided to move on when he went down in 2005. It was debated whether he actually was a good WR, many believed he showed just as many faults as he did signs of being a credible WR in the NFL. Went ont o sign in Denver or was traded...not sure exactly.

2006-69/1084/8Tds

Then had off the field issues galore including a teammate die in his arms after being shot outside a club. Walker IIRC also was found unconscience in Vegas along the highway at some point. Apparently a victim of a robbery and or mugging.

2007-2009 were mostly wasted in Denver and then Oakland who signed him for a ton of money and Walker never played much.

Looked it up: Walker was traded for a 2nd rounder to Denver. This was in the 2006 NFL Draft. Walker signed a 5 year deal worth $40 million including roster bonuses totaling $15 million in 2007 and 2008...eventually Denver simply released Walker. But wait there's more...He signed a 6 year $55 million contract with Oakland in March of 2008 including $15 million in guaranteed money.

Odds of Walker making an impact in Minnesota this season...20%...odds that people are not realizing how much of a bargain Bernard Berrian is right now as the only healthy WR in Minnesota...80%.

Just after 7 A.M. on June 16, 2008, Walker was found unconscious and naked. Also appeared to be sexually assaulted in the face. Dna has been taken and matched to four suspects, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on a street just off the Las Vegas Strip. The previous evening, he had been at Body English, a nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, and left at approximately 5 A.M. the following morning. After being found unconscious, Walker was taken to a local hospital with what police described as "significant injuries," including a concussion and a battered face. He was listed in fair condition and released from the hospital on June 18.[4] Police said Walker was the victim of an apparent robbery, as a large amount of cash and some jewelry were taken from him.[5] Police arrested two suspects, one in late June (Arfat Fadel)[6] and the other in early July.[7] On July 7, 2010, Deshawn Lamont Thomas, an 11-time convicted felon, was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for his part in the crime.[8]

Does the fact that they are picking a guy like Walker up off the scrap heap say anything about the longterm status of either Harvin or Rice or is this just depth for pre-season since those guys might see limited action?

no one but rice and the vikes actually know how bad that hip is, I am hoping its preseason insurance, but the more I hear about rice the worse it sounds. I personally think harvin will be fine, he dealt with these migraines all last year, he will just be a GTD a lot of weeks if he is missing practice during the week.

I don't know about long term status but short term it does make you speculate on the health of both Rice and Harvin.

From what I have seen of Joe Webb, I would give him a legit shot at WR, plus they moved Darius Reynaud to RB - they could move him back to WR. Either of them would be better than Walker, IMO.

for sure, walker is toast, guys knees are shot and hasnt done squat in 5+ years. Will be shocked if he makes the team....

There was a Twitter report earlier today that the Vikings cut Walker but then they corrected it, so my guess is that he will be gone soon...they are probably going to wait and see if any veterans are cut in the last round of cuts.
