Viking trade/cut rumors (1 Viewer)

Smoot on the Raiders doesn't make that much sense to me. With Asomougha and Fabian, there's not really a need.

Williamson was obviously terrible, but is the team really willing to give up on him already considering the investment?

It seemed to take a lot more for the Lions to get rid of Charles Rogers, and he had the off-field transgressions on top of his field underperformance.

Considering that TWill was a Mike Tice pick, I can absolutely see them dropping him.

Isn't Napolean Harris and Troy Williamson* what the Vikings got for trading Moss?

Poetic justice that they may get cut the same season Moss does.

* - meaning the pick that drafted Williamson

:goodposting: It doesn't make sense. But nothing surprises me anymore.
Agreed. But if the Vikings are gonna just cut Smoot, why not trade him for Porter. Same cap hit. As for the Raiders, same thing. Except now they have Smoot. I can see Davis thinking that he'll trade Smoot for a low round pick where he would not trade Porter for one out of principle. Plus, 3 CBs aren't a bad idea.

If Napoleon Harris and Troy Williamson is cut the trade of Moss looks like a gift (not that Ziggy and Childress would care). How much guaranteed money does a 7th pick make? 10-12 million? That would make the cap hit of dumping Williamson substantial.

Trading for Porter would be surprising but his rep for being difficult to deal with I always thought was a bit overstated. Gruden loved him. He did good work under both Callahan and Turner. So he does not get along with Shell and pouts about it does not exactly speak wonders of his maturity but who on this board respects Shell for what he did in OAK in 2006? Sure he was Porter's boss but still the offense he wanted to run was ridiculous and the high school coach practice tricks that Shell reported was to use to discipline grown up (however spoiled) men sounded doomed from day one.

I think Porter can be a solid contributor somewhere. In MIN probably more than most other places (although maybe ATL could use a big WR..).

BUt they aren't going to just cut Porter. His contract isn't an issue, if anything he'll get traded.Porter is a starting caliber WR in the league, and has a deal in place, that'll be very easy for any team to absorb (no pro-rated SB, they can cut him whenever they want with no penalty). Porter has value. He can get moved for draft picks, maybe a O-lineman, whatever, but if they trade him for a vetr, it should be a starter. If I had to guess, I think it was a columnist that wanted to match up a player that will be traded, for a Minny need. And pretty much has no idea what's going on in Oakland. The Raiders have two young starters they like, and backup CB's they like as well.

Wow.Porter hasn't been a model citizen since Rice and Brown were here, and he was complaining about playing behind them. Gruden had him in the doghouse, maybe he liked his talent, but sure didn't like his attitude. He has not done consistent "good work" under any coach. Makes Champ Bailey look like a little boy one week, disappears the next week. That's if he's healthy enough to show up, his durability record is laughable.Which is why I can't see him fetching more than a 4th round pick (maaaybe a 3rd).Art Shell has plenty of things to be blamed for, no reason to make stuff up.

If Kleinsasser and Wiggins get cut, who's the TE in Minny? I show Dugan (8-40) and Owens (6-45) as possibilities, but it seems a bit extreme to cut 53 receptions and retain only 14.

Sure seems foolish to give up on a WR drafted as highly as Williamson after only 2 seasons. When did people start expecting WR's to all be studs right out of the gate?

Not a stud, but I would really like to see him catch the ball. After seeing countless passes bounce off his facemask, hands, chest, through his arms, it gets to be quite frustrating. That being said, I don't think they should/will cut him. This upcoming year he better get his #### together though.

The Vikings might be able to trade cornerback Fred Smoot to Oakland for wide receiver Jerry Porter.

Probably not returning to the Vikings: Smoot, Napoleon Harris, Jim Kleinsasser, Jermaine Wiggins, Troy Williamson, Marcus Johnson and perhaps Darren Sharper.
 @ charlie walters articles
Amen.
Around the Twin Cities, Walters is known for randomly tossing around his own ideas and labeling them "rumors". The guy has zero credibility.

I just got a call from Winter Park. Seems with all the guys they're cutting from the roster at the WR position that I'm next on the depth chart.

Expect increased production next year, fellas.

The Vikings will not cut Troy Williamson or Marcus Johnson.

Williamson will be WR3 and Johnson will probably move to RG, to replace Hicks.

Cut Williamson after two seasons? It takes that long for most rookie WRs to learn a NFL offense. He hasn't caused any off-field problems.

Cutting Williamson is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Most importantly it doesn't make sense cap-wise and as a WR they knew was raw coming out of college his slow development was to be expected. He signed a 7 year deal with a large bonus so they'll likely hold on to him for at least a couple more years. Even Charles Rogers got 3 years and he wasn't even trying towards the end.
