Caddy just signed for 1 year with the Rams. What is this gonna do to Steven jackson? First Norwood, now Caddy.
i would think injury insurance, ability to spell him more often (not as much of a dropoff from jax to caddy/norwood than darby/toston), to preserve him for the season and possibly extend his career... they could be used situationally on third down, or in certain specialized packages...even if he has a slightly lower percentage of overall number of rams carries, that slice could be coming out of a bigger pie... with the nearly across the board improvements on both sides of the ball (and another year in spagnuolo's defense, seeming upgrade at OC), it will be a disappointment if the rams don't enjoy better field position, control the ball better, sustain more drives, and finish stronger in the red zone...* rams wasted an obscene amount of red zone scoring opps last year...

(FFChamps) The Ravens are reportedly the leading candidate to sign free agent receiver Malcom Floyd, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Analysis: There is belief that a deal could bring Floyd to Baltimore as early as tonight, and he would be reunited with offensive coordinator Cam Cameron if he did in fact land with the AFC North club. The Ravens are willing to pay Floyd over $3M a year, which is more than the Chargers want to shell out to retain him.

@houtz Dolphins will wait until a few weeks of preseason games then will decide if they need to up offer for Orton

Jason La Canfora

Tamba Hali on the franchise tag no longer - agrees to 5yr, $60M deal with $35M guaranteed. But move for Chiefs

John Clayton says it sounds like Derrick Mason is going to the Jets for more than a visit, but won't know until morning if he signs with them.

this makes no sense to me. do you really want to trade for a new starting QB with only a couple weeks before the season starts? gotta learn a new playbook, practice with new team, and move across the country -- doesn't sound like a recipe for success

Adam Schefter

And Dallas gets a safety RT @ESPNDallas: Cowboys sign safety Abram Elam to one-year deal worth $2.5 million

Jim Wyatt

The #Titans have agreed to the parameters of a deal with former Vikings DB Frank Walker, but he first must pass a physical

As of this morning, there are five teams over the salary cap: OAK $15.25 mil; PITT $8.5m; DET $7.8m; DALLAS $6.7m: HOUSTON $3.25m.

Couple of teams have done some cap moves since the last list I saw. Houston was $8m over yesterday. Pitt was $11m over.

John McClain

The Texans have redone the contracts of Andre Johnson, DeMeco Ryans and Antonio Smith to get under the salary cap. They were $8.5M over.

John Clayton

Expect Richard Seymour to redo his contract _$15 million base _ and save the Raiders $11.2 million of cap room.

Given the outlook I think a lot of us have for the Bengals, he may get a lot of opportunities there as well.

There is a ton of activity going on restructuring to get under the cap. Teams have about 20 minutes to finalize their cap number. Shortly after 4:00 EST, there will be an increased volume of signings announced as teams finagle their player salaries to accomodate some last key FA signings.

If Cotchery is released will Chargers nab him? He and Rivers played together going back to high school.

Cotchery WAS released today but no word about visits much less signings.I do know that AZ is interested in him (more so now than Edwards or Floyd who are expected to want a lot more salary)

Apparently Whitner tweeted he was going to be a Bengal, but then signed with the 49ers according to Schefter and company.

Last thing we need is another possession guy. Edwards/Floyd fill the need of a deep threat. They aren't going to get what they want salary wise (think that's already been established)

Raiders signed TE Kevin Boss to a four-year, $16 million contract.

It’s a rare quality signing for the Raiders. Although Boss isn’t quite the pass-catcher that Zach Miller is, he has turned himself into an elite blocker. In Oakland, Boss will be asked to run more routes to compensate for the Raiders’ unreliable receiving corps.

The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms with free-agent C Olin Kreutz (Bears) on a one-year deal worth around $2 million with a chance to double his salary if he reaches certain incentives. Analysis: The Bears wanted Kreutz to take a one-year deal worth $4 million but he wanted at least $4.5 million. So they showed him the door. Kreutz has been a warrior (for 13 years) but at age 34 his skills have faded a bit, especially after blowing out his Achilles in 2009. Still, he's a good replacement for C Jonathan Goodwin, who left for San Francisco.

Took a less offer from the Saints then he turned down to stay in Chicago. And they made it to the NFC championship game. The stud QB effect.

olin bring experience and leadership but not much else. i would prefer tennant's development with olin backing him up, honestly. at beast, he's a one year solution to a long term problem.

Panthers get Lions FB Jerome Felton off waivers. He is a capable runner, as many people thought he would get goal line carries in Detroit last year.
