Vikings plus McNabb... (1 Viewer)

A few guys at work today were jawing about the Vikings, and one of them said something along the lines of, 'If the Vikings had Donovan McNabb as their quarterback this season, they would have won at least 11 games.'

I laughed it off at first, but the more I think about it, I don't think this statement is that far off. A few guys around the office called him an idiot, while a few others seemed to agree.

What do the gents around these parts think?

(and I know this isn't an exact science, so spare this thread from all of the 'OMGZ ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO PROJECT FOR THAT SITUATION' posts, thanks)

The Vikings may win 9 games this year with Tarvaris Jackson + backups under center...to think a proven, 5-time Pro Bowl QB who already knows that offense inside and out would've led to another 2 wins is not only possible, but probably undershoots the mark quite a bit.

I agree completely. To "laugh" at the idea only shows ones ignorance. And to that end, why would Philly think of letting McNabb go? How is that even an idea? Would they rather have Trent Green, Joey Harrington, or dozens of other QBs who aren't as good?

It's become quite clear that unless McNabb really forces the issue, he and Reid will be back next year. Donovan could conceivably make it known he wants out, but I don't expect that to happen now that he's finally looking healthy and has played well the last few weeks.

 I can't imagine that McNabb would have lost any of the games the Vikings won, and he could have won a couple more at least. The question is whether McNabb would have been healthy all year to get those wins.

OMGZ ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO PROJECT FOR THAT SITUATION ;)I think it more likely that if Randy Moss were a Viking, they would have won 11 this year, but McNabb probably could have too.

The Vikings can: 1. Run the ball and 2. Stop the run... so add Donovan McNabb, and In my mind you have a legit superbowl contender. And I'm a Bears fan... so I hope it doesn't happen.

The Vikes would have won 12 games with McNabb...

The Iggles would have won 3 with whoever they had left..

Who is going to catch the ball Rice might be the best WR but he is an average NFL WR and teams will be more ready for him next year. Wade is a pedestrian WR, Williamson has done nothing but drop the ball. Choke Vikes have more than QB problems to solve in the offense. Not sure that those DBs they have will ever be good enough for this team to be a Super Bowl contender.

Well, its not like McNabb has been chucking it to pro-bowlers his whole career. I understand your point... but the Vikings run D and run O have the potential to be historically good (well... they kind of already are if you consider ADP's 296 and the run d's yardage allowed)....I'm not saying they'd be a pretty team to watch... but McNabb can move the chains and allow Peterson to flourish... they have enough playmakers in the secondary to make up for the lapses in coverage... I certainly wouldn't want to share a division with them.

I don't disagree with your first statement, but have you looked at the Eagles record with and without McNabb? You might be surprised...

I chalk that up to the brainfreeze that passes for Reid's playcalling that he has when McNabb is in there.ETA: McNabb will be back with the Eagles. The strong finish to the season means they won't rebuild, and McNabb gives them the best chance to win now.

McNabb would be very..very good with the Vikes.

The Vikes had decent success with Jackson who is possibly the worst starting QB in the NFL.

I am not sure how you can say that. Mcnabb basically won 6 games with the eagles this year and in his last 25 games as a starter he has a losing record. The Eagles and the Vikings have similiar talent, they both have great running backs and very average Wr's. The defenses on both teams are very comparable also. With McNabb as a starter on the Vikings this year I dont think he would have many more wins. People like to rip Reid on his play calling, but I find it interesting when another QB is running the offense on the eagles, you really dont see a drop off in offensive production. Personally, i think a team change for Mcnabb might do him good. With the eagles in recent years, he has been incredibly inconsistant. If the Eagles think Kolb is the future, I would like to see the Eagles deal McNabb if they can, and start the rebuilding process.
