Vikings RB Taylor injury is to left leg

Kevin Seifert

8/5/2006

Running back Chester Taylor did not participate in this morning’s 70-minute indoor practice, apparently because of an injury he suffered to his left leg during Friday night’s practice against Kansas City.

Signed to be the team’s No. 1 running back, Taylor left Friday night’s practice with a wrap around the quadriceps muscle of his left leg. Mewelde Moore and Ciatrick Fason took most of the carries during team drills. Coach Brad Childress did not mention Taylor’s injury Friday night, and defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin — serving as the team spokesman today — said he did not know the extent of Taylor’s injury.

Taylor declined comment as he left the locker room this morning.

I just sent out a trade offer to get him, giving up Rhodes, but I am starting to worry about him. He shows up chubby and is getting nicked up already. He may not be able to mentally or physically handle the load.

I know I'm overreacting, but I'm not as high on him as I once was.

Mewelde!!!
Good luck counting on this guy to be the *solution* to a team's injury problems at RB. He seems about as fragile as they come (even though I think he has the ideal skill-set for the offense they will run in MN, if its anything like Philly's).And this is coming from a MM owner in dynasty. . .

Taylor.....Richardson......Hutchinson.....the guy's a stud. Forget the minor bruise...... :banned:
Does Taylor get points for Richardson's receptions?Richardson is a fine back, but he's no Lorenzo Neal.

Does Taylor get points for being on the bench?Richardson is a fine back, but he's no Moses.

My thing with with Taylor is this:I wonder how much room he'll have to run after Brad Johnson gets hurt.

From KFAN.com

-Chester Taylor again did not work out with the team this afternoon, nursing what looked to be a quad or groin injury. Like all the injury situations, the team is being tight-lipped about the real nature of the injury.

Chris Brown will be wearing purple in a week's time.

another sig bet?
Ya shor, youbetcha! This may be a little different than what you were expecting, but here it is:

Chester Taylor will NOT be the Vikings week one starter.

I stand by my belief that he will a) get hurt b) lose the job to Moore c) MIN will bring in a real RB to replce him d) all of the above

a) wild guessb) um no

c) err salary cap?

Moore couldn't beat out Bennett. Not sure how he's going to beat out a real RB. The vikings don't think Moore can carry the load. End of story. Your view doesn't matter. Their view does. Truth doesn't matter. Their truth does.

They paid Taylor quite a bit of money. They're going to ride him regardless. Whether he's horrible and it goes to RBBC who knows. But Taylor is the default starter. You sign a guy to a big contract, you don't bench him week 1. You ruin his confidence, and you admit you made a huge mistake. Teams rarely admit to a mistake. Look at Brees. They'd rather roll the dice with Rivers then admit they didn't realize they had a probowl QB on the roster.

Not to mention Taylor has looked very good at times. Has a great skill set for this offense.

When did it become in fashion to make grandiose, baseless claims about players in the preseason? Sure you make enough of them, you have something to bump in January to pat yourself on the back. Just seems a little silly to me.

I agree, but my claims are not baseless.1) Taylor has a history of attitude problems2) He has not been very durable, even in a limited role3) Based on NFL experience, MIN lacks depth at RB, even more so if you factor in they have nobody who has been a primary RB at this level for more than a handful of games. It should be obvious to all that the Vikings need to address their biggest weakness at the RB position, which nobody should be shocked about when it happens this pre-season.

Taylor has played in all but two games in his entire four year career, so I don't see how he is not very durable. Also, his history of "attitude problems" can't be too bad if he played in all but two games and wasn't a big time player anyway. He will be the guy and he will go over 1,000 yards rushing this year.

Vikings RB Taylor barely works on Sunday

Adam Doctolero

-Chester Taylor was in uniform today after missing yesterday's sessions with a groin injury, however he barely particiapted and was seen riding off on the backof a golf cart after practice.

"Chester Taylor is still tender in the groin area," said Childress. "We want to make sure he treats that up and takes care of that before he gets back out on the field."

I'll take that bet too. I'm a hardcore CT hater because he's garbage and MIN knows it, but unless he's missing a leg, he's their opening day starter.

Umm...they did (at least in their minds - as a previous poster pointed out) when they paid big coin to lock up Taylor. Taylor will be the week 1 starter, and the week 2, week 3, etc. Barring injury (a phrase which you can start every RB discussion with) he will start at least 1/2 the season - and then only if he is absolutely terrible, will they go to someone else.

CT already hurting, where's banger?

Top 20 ruled out already, I'll stick to my guns he doesn't start Week 1.

So are you ruling out every player with minor training camp dings? Tomlinson, Owens, Smith, Benson, Shockey, Ward, Vick... the list goes on and on. Or is it just your admitted "jilted lover"-style irrational hatred of Chester speaking again?

Those other guys are tough...and proven. CT does not belong in their company.

What on earth has Benson proven? Have him get into the endzone once before saying he's a proven player.

1st round stud vs. 6th round career back up out of Toledo? You can't be serious...
Absolutely serious. If he hasn't done anything at the NFL level, then he hasn't done anything.Terrell Davis vs Ki-Jana Carter, take your pick and tell me what round they were drafted? An extreme case, but just because he's drafted high doesn't make him a proven NFL player.

Chester Taylor was a heckuva back for Toledo. MAC RBs just don't get much respect in the NFL draft.

Interesting thing is that I've liked Chester Taylor since I saw him chew up Penn State for 144 yards and 2 TDs back in 2000. I liked his potential as the backup in Baltimore.

But now that he's got his chance behind a great line in Minnesota, I'm kind of luke warm. There's something about this situation that I don't like, but I can't put my finger on it.
