Vikings will not offer single game tickets for MNF vs GB (1 Viewer)

You might have noticed on the previous blog that it won’t be possible to buy tickets to the Chicago or Green Bay games at the Metrodome when Vikings’ single-game tickets go on sale Monday morning.

The reason is because for the time being the Vikings are only going to offer tickets to those games to fans who buy season tickets. This is a change from past years when what often happened was fans who wanted to buy Chicago or Green Bay tickets also had to buy tickets to another less-attractive game. The Packers game at the Dome, for instance, often was coupled with a preseason matchup.

“They are part of the full-season package,” said Steve LaCroix, Vikings vice president of sales and marketing and chief marketing officer. “We will continue to gauge fan interest and get the sales process underway. We continue to renew season-ticket orders. That process has taken longer than in the past years. We are actively working through our renewal transactions and will re-address those two games down the road.”

So what gives?

Well, certainly part of the reason for going in this direction has to be the fact the Vikings are waiting to see if Brett Favre ends his retirement to play in Minnesota. As we found out Wednesday, that could take another two weeks. However, if Favre does return, that Oct. 5 Monday night game against the Packers at the Dome is going to be one of the hottest tickets ever for a Vikings home game. The Nov. 29 game against the Bears also isn’t going to be easy to get into.

Perhaps the Vikings are hoping that because most fans expect Favre to return they will simply decide to buy season tickets now in order to make sure they can attend the two games against Minnesota’s NFC North rivals.

Just wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be amusing if Favre tells them no by the deadline he gave himself...? :lmao:

I don't know anyone that would buy 10 tickets to go to two games, especially at the Metrodome.

Sad when a franchise has to do this to sell their tickets...
If they are only offering them to season ticket holders, I cant see them selling out.In a poor economy this move could backfire on them, and they could end up with a bunch of unsold seats. However, if people actually dont buy, I'd expect a quick role reversal on this policy.

My wife and I go to one Vikings game each year. We live in Iowa and have young children so getting to games (and finding someone to watch the kids) can be tough. I'd certainly enjoy seeing the Packers or Chicago games this year but most likely we're going to see Baltimore. The Vikings home schedule this year is not too exciting. They play the giants again week 17 and that could be a pretty exciting game or it could be a game where starters are rested. It's pretty annoying that the only way we can get Packer/Viking tickets is to buy tickets for the whole season. Overall, though, it's not that big of a deal to me.

It must be a Minnesota thing. The gophers have been doing this to us Hawkeyes every year. We can't buy single game tickets for just the Iowa game we always have to buy multiple games to get the Iowa tickets. I think they are still Po at us for tearing down their goalposts when we won the Big Ten title in 02. The Viqueens must be taking notes. Well, you know what we always say about Minnesota "You can't fix Stupid". Latest example = Al Franken.

Maybe they could get fans to sign an allegiance pact. "I swear I'm a Vikings fan".
Make them provide a blood sample, if it comes out any color other than purple...

Some pertanint information:

The Vikings have struggled each of the last three years in selling out all of their games. While their season-ticket sales have remained decent, although declining, selling out non-division or non-conference games has been a problem. The team needed to get three extensions to the blackout deadline last year to preserve their consecutive sellout streak, which dates back to 1998. It is believed that signing Favre would go a long way to ending any last-minute ticket purchases to avoid blackouts. It is thought that Favre would end the need for corporate buyouts or last-minute pleas to fans to buy tickets.

The Twinkie Dome has to be the worst professional stadium in the NFL, and worse than most DI Colleges

 Purple and gay. They wear those gay horns too.
It's interesting how anything remotely racist results in a ban, but homophobic slurs generally go unnoticed. People would get all worked up if someone said they wouldn't pay for tickets because the vikings were all africoons.

And yet another Favre/Viking thread filled with Packer crap...Do you people ever stop?? Christ, give it a rest already.
Since the thread title was about the MIN vs GB game, this shouldn't be a surprise.

That's one way to keep Packer fans out.
I actually think the opposite. Assuming it's true they have been having trouble selling season tickets (to Vikings fans) and they are now reserving the prime games of the schedule, I see a lot of opportunity for scalpers. I would think if a scalper knows there are a couple of games that the demand for tickets will be really high for whatever reason, they'll buy everything, unload the great games for a premium, and hope they can unload the rest for face value.

If there is scalping it's probably aimed at Packer fans.

:goodposting: I would like to see this community shun the homophobic slurs as well, ban it and delete the comments. It's not funny and it's not appropriate.

I feel the same way.
