See all this great WR talent and potential for the Titans?
It would have been foolish to draft one in the first round.

I will say, VY does have a transformative effect on his teammates - he's the loosest, yet most focused, and it seems like he makes football fun for everyone around him. Hopefully some of that will rub off on Williams. He is definitely a physical marvel -I was afraid we were a little too over the top in initial Shrine Game reports by labelling him a physical first rounder, but the numbers bore out - and yes, his long arms are yet another physical advantage and attribute that jumps out even when you're just watching him stand out.As far as the conversion to DB - I could see it if he still doesn't respond as a WR. Maybe hitting will re-ignite that fire in the belly. All this is making me want to get him back on the audible during camp...PFW scout book reported he has been diagnosed as clinically depressed (only place i found that)...very sad story about his brother...maybe drive to success to honor & as tribute to his brother's memory can be a positive source of motivation...physically, he is impressive enough that coyle chose chad johnson as his comp player in his scouting guide...his highlights really jumped out at me during draft coverage... on some of his plays he reminded me of what the hoopster larry johnson looked like when he was a man among boys at UNLV, & would sometimes be head & shoulders above his opponents before snatching the ball out of the air on rebounds... innate timing & hops to effortlessly highpoint the ball, & seems to have that jordan-esque, gravity-defying ability to hang in the air... i think fisher said he had the longest arms in the draft, but maybe he meant for his position, among WRs... may be no more than a WR3-4, if that, but if things break right, he has the natural athleticism & talent to be more...there is a risk that he could end up at DB... no idea how big, i'm guessing not very...
[GuyWhoCalledWittenInTheTop5In2004]Seen where I have him rated?[/GuyWhoCalledWittenInTheTop5In2004]It'll be just like in college-Bo Scaife.![]()
Whoa. You believe Scaife will outproduce Witten and Heap (and Davis, McMichael, Watson among others). You do remember this guy's injury history right? What exactly has changed between last year and this year that will vault him into the top 10?[GuyWhoCalledWittenInTheTop5In2004]Seen where I have him rated?[/GuyWhoCalledWittenInTheTop5In2004]It'll be just like in college-Bo Scaife.![]()
1. Scaife is/has become a trusted option for Vince. I think Vince knows he can throw it to Bo and he's going to make the play. Is he more talented then the other pass catching options on the team? Not really. Neither is Ahrmad Hall. But both have been in the huddle with Vince for far longer then everyone else, thus they have the advantage of some chemistry to work with.2. Lack of options. I am actually feeling a bit better about the TItans draft and htink that all 3 receivers have a chance to make the roster. WIlliams certainly will barring a disasterous camp, Davis will if for no reason other then they have no KR/PR on the roster. ANd I think Filani basically needs to have a pulse to earn a spot from Roby, Williams, or Gage. That said, I don't expect much from them this season.3. Offense - I think from watching Chow's offense with the Titans that the passing game works short to long and not the other way around. Maybe I'm off base or incorrect, but it seemed to me the last couple of seasons that between the run and the routes that the team was trying to "soften the box" with 3 or 4 yards on the ground and 6 or 7 yards through the air in the early parts of games to set up something deep later. It looks eerily similar to the Vols offense when Casey Claussen was there. Having the "Vince takes off running" element makes it effective, and maybe they were just being conservative since he was a rookie. This makes the selection of Henry more palatable to me. I htink they would like someone out of the backfield to catch 55 balls, and it wasn't going to be Lendale. This team didn't seem to do much winging it all over the field IMO except when a half was about to end. I expect the TEs to grab a LOT of passes this year, and I expect Scaife to be the one who gets the majority of them.Whoa. You may be right. It'll be just like in college-Bo Scaife.![]()
I think all those things indicate an uptick for Scaife (although I dont know about trust, he dropped a few sure TDs last year, and that is a constant from last year, not something that suggestspotential for growth. If there was going to be a year VY just leaned on a familiar face, it would have been last year), but to end up #7, ahead of Heap and Witten, he would have to double his career high stats. Thats a lot of stock to put in the loss of Wade/Bennett and VY's game settling down a little bit.I am with you on Scaife being a name to watch - last year we were all over him in the dynasty watch as soon as VY was announced as the starter, but you're projecting him to be THE breakout TE of 2007. With his spotty durability record, plus his lack of having that kind of breakout with almost the same opportunity in 2006... well that's a gutsy call.1. I moved him into the bottom of that tier as soon as I heard that report. If the good words continue into camp, he'll be in the Gonzalez/Smith/Davis tier.Back to the Williams topic for a minute..... With Givens possibly out for the season, does Williams' value in rookie drafts begin to climb, say above guys like Jason Hill?Joe commented in today's email that Williams has been the most impressive rookie receiver in camp thus far. With a good TC & providing Keyshawn doesn't sign with the Titans, Williams should have a fairly good shot at starting this season, no?If that's the case, you'd think his ranking might have to climb up around Allison/Higgins/Hill territory.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised for 6 or 7 guys to have 20+ receptions for that team and no one aside from Jones to have more then 40.ColinBack to the Williams topic for a minute..... Are you expecting a rotation at WR? You don't think they would settle on two guys that are on the field for the majority of snaps? Jones and a free for all for the other seems to make sense to me. Or is just that you don't believe in anyone on the roster enough to hold down that #2 job?I wouldn't be the least bit surprised for 6 or 7 guys to have 20+ receptions for that team and no one aside from Jones to have more then 40.ColinBack to the Williams topic for a minute.....
