Vincent Jackson - TAMPA BAY (1 Viewer)

I think they are looking to reduce reliance on Winslow's involvement. Even some rumors they are shopping him and could possibly cut him. Rumors are rumors, but they're out there.
Winslow is definitely on his way out of TB soon, but he only makes $3.3M this year. As a Stocker owner I want to see it happen but I don't think it happens until next year.

I always thought the "two DUI" thing was a bit off. Jared Allen has had 3, but no one ever called him a locker room cancer or bad guy or some of the things I've seen said about V Jax.

Few people know he was a straight A student, even fewer realize he was accepted to Columbia. He's no dummy.
Who were the people saying this? Coaches, players, pundits? I'm just asking because I've never heard the "locker room cancer" thing but I don't watch/listen to many pundits so you may be right and I just didn't hear about it.I do think VJ has made questionable decisions on the field. He also made a very questionable decision to make $300k or whatever instead of $3mil a year or so ago because he apparently didn't understand his eligibility for FA. I don't care how many "A" grades even if they would have been at Columbia - his decision making skills directly cost him millions and millions of dollars.

He does seem like a hard worker though and it's tough to criticize a player that works hard.

What are your personal projections for VJax in 2012? What #'s would he need to produce to be worth $13mil? What #'s would qualify him as a "bust" if he didn't reach them?
I've never heard anybody say that Jackson was a locker room cancer. He made a few stupid decisions to drink and drive. He's made some questionable decisions on the field (spiking a live ball, kicking a penalty flag, etc.). But he's generally a bright guy who works hard and doesn't mouth off or act like a head case the way many star WRs do. He's exactly the kind of guy I'd want in my locker room.I think he got some bad advice from his agents in 2010, but I wouldn't blame VJ for that. (And anyway, now that he's got at least $26 million coming to him, the extra $3 million he forwent doesn't seem like such a big deal.)

He understood the rules perfectly
I do think his agents were caught by surprise to learn that he'd be a restricted free agent again in 2011 if he sat out all of 2010. I don't think they knew that when they decided not to sign the $3.2 million tender.

I guess that's where the disconnect comes for me.You have people in this thread saying he'll be earning his $13mil if he produces 1200/8(which is what, a top 15 WR?) and he doesn't mouth off or act like a head case. If you are paying a guy more than 1/10th the salary cap I would think you are hoping for a team leader and someone that's going to be top 5 in the league at his position. I don't see him filling either of those roles, let alone both.

MT, you're a staff member. Will you be projecting VJ in the top 5 for WR's this year? Top 10?

I haven't done my projections yet, but the way that Josh Freeman totally locked onto Mike Williams at times last year, I think bodes very well for Vincent Jackson's target numbers. Jackson is a significant upgrade over Williams, IMO.

Rotoworld:

Coach Greg Schiano reiterated the Bucs are increasing Vincent Jackson's versatility in order to get him open more.
The Bucs aren't interested in using V-Jax to draw double teams and open up the field for others. They want to feed him the rock. "He’ll line up anywhere, from next to the tackle all the way out to No. 1 receiver, and everything between," said Schiano. "That makes it hard to be able to [cover], if the defense is trying to take him out of the game." Jackson is Rotoworld's No. 8 fantasy receiver.
