Yet the typical conservative viewpoint is that Democrats are being overly influenced by their progressive wing.
Yea they definitely do, I've mentioned a few times on here some of our local congressional race commercials would reference Nancy Pelosi as an out of control socialist... hilarious.

From a marketing standpoint though, the conservatives have to go with that line because admitting the Dems have become the right of center party would cause their voters to to rethink things. They need to sell them on bold contrasts.

Republicans do a much better job with this than the Dems do, highlighted by Biden vs Trump this year. Before COVID I would have bet the house on Trump.

True, and it's a message amplified in the media by the same folks who were cheerleaders for the Iraq War and never faced any consequences for being wrong, they just failed upward. The veneration of "Never Trump" neo-cons is equally sickening to me and speaks to the fact that the Democratic Party stands for nothing other than acquiring power for its own sake. Not to use that power to advance any sort of agenda that will help working people.
Yeah, it's really brutal to watch.  Many conservatives hate them for what they did.  Trump annihilated the Republican primary by trashing Jeb Bush & his brother for the Iraq War.  They're the ones that gave us Trump.

Yet these Iraq War neocons are constantly held up as 'principled conservatives,' given prime real estate on editorial pages, and booked on cable news for being flamboyantly antiTrump.  This Rick Wilson guy is a dumpsterfire, I think he was one of the braingeniuses behind Sarah Palin, another phenomenon that gave us Trump.  It's always eerie how they go radio silent whenever Trump is about to give them the war they desperately crave.

Today, many liberals would gladly waltz into the outstretched arms of Bill Kristol & David Frum if they could only free them from their orange menace.  They miss George W Bush!  They adopted much of the neocons' anti-Russia rhetoric too, they call McConnell "Moscow Mitch."  It's crazy.

There was a good piece about this on 538 the other day. The neocons started as Democrats, then took over the Republican Party, and now they hold outsized influence in the Democratic Party again. It's astonishing how few people realize this (or maybe just don't care?).

With all the tribalism in the last 20 years everyone just wants their team to win, policy be damned

The worst part is how they think they're better than Trump.  They're worse than Trump.  They created the conditions that made Trump possible.  People voted for Trump because he was perceived as a rejection of their failed ideology.

Now they act high and mighty like they wouldn't send other people's kids to go die in a pointless war again, like the chickenhawk pieces of #### that they are.  "Principled" "Never Trump" Republicans.  #### them

One of the best posts I’ve seen in this forum.

Speaking of young Mr. Kennedy he came out with this compassionate gem of a tweet today...

"Just like the officer who took George Floyd’s life -- our President is putting a knee on the neck of those demanding justice."

Nothing like segueing off someone's racist murder to take a swipe at the president. Man I hope Markey smashes him.

But is he lying? Trump has threatened to call in the National Guard, all because people are rightly upset that yet another guy with a badge is responsible for another human being's death, in a situation that was apparently nowhere near the level that response called for.

No matter how bad Trump is, that’s a horrible tweet.

It's not technically wrong but it completely minimizes Floyd's life in an effort to score a couple political points.
