News and Notes

James Anderson replaces Landon Johnson at WLB this week and Dan Connor could fill in for Na’il Diggs, who only had a limited practice on Friday. Anderson could be an every-down player, but it’s also possible that the Panthers could go with six defensive backs as Charles Godfrey is expected back this week. The Panthers have said they’re likely to rotate Godfrey in with both Chris Harris and Sherrod Martin.

The Bills rotated Jairus Byrd and Donte Whitner at safety last week. That rotation could continue if Byrd’s abdominal injury limits him today.

The Bucs are moving back toward a Cover-2 philosophy this week. A small decrease in value for Sabby Piscitelli and increase in value for Geno Hayes is likely, but it’s probable that not much changes in the box score.

Injuries

Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are both questionable this week. Lewis was back to a limited practice Friday, Reed did not practice this week. Beat writers are expecting both to play.

Curtis Lofton has been limited all week and is listed questionable with knee and groin injuries. There have been no specific reports that he won’t play.

Dwight Freeney is out this week after not practicing with an abdominal injury.

DeMeco Ryans is questionable with an ankle injury and only had a limited practice on Friday.

Albert Haynesworth didn’t practice last week and is not expected to play.

Shawne Merriman is a game-time decision with a foot injury. He did not practice this week.

David Thornton is questionable and was limited most of the week. Stephen Tulloch would fill-in in the nickel if Thornton is out. Jason Jones is questionable, but did not practice Thursday or Friday.

Antoine Winfield has said he’ll be back this week, but he remains listed questionable. He may only rotate as a nickel corner if he plays.

Keith Rivers is listed questionable and was limited all week. He’s a game-time decision.

Tracy Porter is out this week. Jabari Greer was limited Thursday and Friday. Randall Gay will start at one corner and Malcolm Jenkins will see extended time whether or not Greer is ready to go.

Bryant McFadden and Chike Okeafor were both limited all week and are listed questionable.

Norton's Saturday ranking should have taken into account the Freeney situation, but it doesn't. The Sunday projections arent up yet. Not what I wanted to see.

In any case, does this make R Brock a viable starter this week?

Haynesworth and Rivers are officially inactive.

Na'il Diggs and Charles Godfrey active. I'll try to confirm James Anderson at WLB before gametime.

If by viable you mean likely to get 80% of the snaps or more, then yes, he's viable. Not sure he's a clear DL2 with this matchup, but he's got that kind of upside, yes.

I think that's a wrap on the early games. Planning to post anything of note for the late games later today.
Thanks Jene. If you hear anything on Ray Lewis and Ed Reed please let me know. I have both going tonight. Everything I have found says Lewis is playing but I haven't heard much about Reed.

All I've seen so far is in the initial post. Sounds like both are expected to play. I think Lewis will definitely play and Reed has missed practice all week in the past and played.

How hurt is Lofton?
There wasn't much talk about him locally this week. He's got knee and groin issues and apparently was never at risk not to play today. If they're nagging things, they didn't slow him down last week and he played every down. I don't think the questionable tag is a huge deal, but there's no way to be certain unfortunately.

Thanks. I couldn't find much information on him.

McFadden and Okeafor active for Arizona.

Mike Vrabel down for Kansas City. Merriman active for SD.
