Wade Phillips on the way out? (1 Viewer)

The problem Jerry has is that Wade is the DC as well as the HC. Even if he felt like Garrett deserved a shot at the HC role (and why would he?), by firing Phillips midseason you're also asking a non-coordinator to step into both roles (replacing Garrett and Phillips). Can that possibly make things better?
can they get worse?
That's the thing Jerry has to figure out. I'm not saying it doesn't make sense to bounce Phillips. This week certainly felt like the culmination of all that's been wrong, where the team has just summarily given up on the year in all phases. I think Jerry has to basically put everyone in the organization on notice, and use the rest of this year to decide just how much is salvageable.

It doesn't work that way, they would announce a new DC and a new HC if they fired Wade.

Pasqualoni is on Dallas's staff and was DC in Miami last year, so I think he can step in as DC. Although I think I commented earlier in this thread that he could be good interim HC option too.

I think before you decide if Wade is going to finish the season or be replaced, and if it is the latter, in what manner, you need to answer the Cowboy's most pressing questions:

1. What is the actual GOAL / OBJECTIVE for the rest of the season

2. What is going to best serve the Cowboys going into NEXT season and beyond.

The two questions would seem to be one and the same, but if the goal for the franchise is to "save face" and eek out a couple wins, that might not be in line with preparing for next year.

If indeed the Cowboys are looking to the future, you have half a season to determine who are your players for next year. For example, how much longer does Kitna stay in? We all know what Kitna is, isnt it time to see how the kid can play. Get him not one or two, but 5+ games of experience to grow and show his stuff?

The same question can essentially be asked down the line - I am not that familar with the Cowboys roster outside of the fantasy positions, but I am sure there are guys that may or may not make it onto next years team. What better time to throw youth into the fire to see what you have?
