whomever was responsible for not kicking that field goal to make it a 2 score game should be fired by 8am tomorrow morning..
Maybe because they can't score at all, and that's the closest they were going to get for a td score. You can always kick a fg if needed from farther out.

Do you fire him and say "Wade you're done anyways"...promote Garrett and see what you have so you don't allow another Sean Payton to walk away? Not much to lose at this point.

I'd fire the entire coaching staff. I don't think you're losing much in Garrett, he's already shown that he's in over his head. This offense is loaded with talent and still a complete mess.

But you can't do that. No one is going to come in off the street and start coaching them. I'm asking if you promote Garrett to the HC job and not give him much of an extension or contract until the season is over officially.

Lovie at least took his team to a Super Bowl a few years ago so he gets a pass for now. He's going down fast though.

Wade needs to go, but the problem is who do you replace him with? Garrett seems to be over his head sometimes just as OC, I think making him interim coach would be letting the inmates run the asylum. On the defensive side, you have Paul Pasqualoni, Reggie Herring and Dave Campo. I can't see Jerry naming Campo as iterim head coach, but stranger things have happened.
Doesn't Wade's contract run out after this year? I could see Jerry making him finish out the year and then just letting him go.

Yes. The whole reason for keeping Wade is because he's some defensive genius. Well he's seemed to have lost that title. All he does is call blitzes up the middle and I have yet to see it work all season. Give Garrett the chance. He's a lousy OC but you never know. I think that's a great question Sean. And it may really tell us what Jerry thinks about Garrett as much as it does Phillips. I know some believe Jones is in love with the "name" coach and will covet Cowher or Gruden or (???) if they're available. And that may be true. But if you look at the head coaches Jones has hired, it's been as wide a variety as we've seen by any owner:*** Jimmy Johnson -- heralded college head coach*** Barry Switzer -- heralded college head coach (out of coaching for awhile)*** Chan Gailey -- long time NFL assistant (with lots of college experience before that)*** Dave Campo -- good lieutenant, long-time Dallas assistant who lasted through a bunch of prior HCs*** Bill Parcells -- legendary NFL head coach*** Wade Phillips -- well respected NFL coordinator with prior NFL head coaching experienceSo ultimately I think Jerry will grab the guy he thinks is best for the job. Unlike some other times in the past though, I do think a lot of premier coaches would covet this job. They DO have tons of talent, a rich owner obsessed with winning, and an amazing facility. Cowboys fans celebrated when Todd Haley, Sean Payton, and Tony Soporano left; seems like the coaches got the last laugh. I for one wont be heartbroken if Garrett gets HC job.

Only if Jerry gives up his power and it was proven with Parcels he cannot do that for long.

If you are going to fire Wade in season now is the time to do it. The season is lost and whomever is brought in to replace him at least has10 games to figure out what he has and plan what he wants to install for next season.
Right now Wade's defense is looking bad and that was the one ace he could always pull out.

i suspect this is who he will target in the offseason. gruden might be 2nd. someone like fox or del rio could also make the short list. i am not sure cowher takes it but it would be *really* tempting. gruden would take it in a heartbeat if espn lets him out of his contract.

I'm sure ESPN would let him go back to coaching, and would imagine (although I don't know this for certain) that it's stipulated in his contract. I genuinely believe Gruden and Cowher will be back in the coaching ranks this coming season. I also think it's not out of the question that Andy Reid could leave Philadelphia for another opportunity (not b/c he gets fired, but b/c he has a mutual parting of the ways). That's two or three big names right at the start. You also have to think that a lot of people would want to take a hard look at John Fox, who I also think is a lame duck in Carolina. Cowher, IMHO, will have his choice of jobs. That will likely include: Dallas, Carolina, Cleveland, San Francisco and Jacksonville.
I can see Gruden liking the Cleveland opportunity, working closely with Heckert and Holmgren and building off a young nucleus. I'm sure he would also find Dallas and San Francisco appealing, depending on what he thought of ownership and his ability to help reshape the rosters.

As long as Jerry thinks the Cowboys are right on the doorstep of making the Super Bowl, I think he passes on the big-name coaches in favor of someone who won't steal the spotlight from Jerry himself. If he hired Cowher next year and they won the Super Bowl, the headline would be that Cowher took the team to the top, not Jerry.
If Norv Turner gets fired after this year, I think Jerry takes a long look at him. With Norv, Jerry can talk about how Turner will help put the team over the top, but everyone still knows that JJ is the man behind the curtain.

I don't disagree that certain coaches won't want to deal with Jerry Jones' omnipotence. But I think the days when coaches can name their price in terms of control are long gone. Very few coaches now have the kind of control, and they're largely legacy hires like Andy (2nd longest tenured coach behind Jeff Fisher). Even guys like Shanahan and Holmgren had to give up total control in their last gigs, and guys like Tony Dungy and Sean Payton never had it. I think a lot of coaches want to coach. I agree with you they want to work with a GM that they have a good relationship with, but beyond that I don't think they need, nor can they command, total control of the franchise anymore.

Easy to say now, but let's not forget that Sean Payton was once an OC for the Giants who had his play-calling duties removed by Jim Fassel. TWICE. A LOT of people thought his hire in New Orleans was mystifying as a result.One thing we have to remember is that the talents that make someone an able coordinator are quite often vastly different than what is required to be a great head coach.

Actually this is something I've always said. You could go back and search, you'll find that I've been preaching this same sermon over and over and over.#1. Didn't like Parcell#2. Don't like Wade#3. Allowing Payton to go was a mistake and NO would be happy to have him as a coach.Bring all the tithe into the storehouse...................

Jones is the one that needs to go. All the good coaches the Cowboys have had, he has run out of town. He wanted a puppet and he got one in Phillips. Now they are a train wreck.
I would like to see Gruden end up getting the job. He is a terrific coach, in my opinion.
