Waiver Wire Defense Week 4 (1 Viewer)

ARZ at Tampa

TEN vs NYJ

IND at JAX

NOS vs MIA

PIT at MIN

Here are some suggestions for this week. Indy kinda jumps out at me the way they shut down the 49ers in their own stadium yesterday. Tampa is a trainwreck offensively. Titans very tough defense at home. New Orleans and Pittsburgh probably not widely available but are still out there in some leagues.

Excellent suggestions by the OP. I have one more to add for consideration:

Min vs. Pit -- The Vikes didn't live up to their billing in Week 3 but get a 2nd straight bad offense this week...if you bought them last week you can possibly stick with them one more week. They gave up points but still had a decent outing vs. CLE.

I'm going with Indy if I can get them, but I agree with what you're saying about the Vikings. No matter how bad the Browns looked on paper, it's really hard to game plan against a team that is an entirely different team than they were a week ago. New stud WR, unknown at QB and unknown at RB. Sometimes all that change can put in a little temporary life into a team as well.

KC is sitting on my wire. I've never made a waiver wire claim on a defense (I always just grab in FCFS waivers), but I think I'm going to do it this time. Unfortuntately, I think someone else may do the same.

If I can't get them, I think the Titans will be my choice vs. the Jets.

I'll be going with Tennessee if I can't get KC off waivers. Minnesota is my third choice; as we saw this week, their defense isn't actually good, but is still competent enough to rack up easy turnovers when they're given.

Have to bump Indy to the top of this list on the news of Gabbert starting for JAX.
You understand that Henne has thrown more picks than Gabbert per attempt by a long shot and been sacked at a slightly higher rate? If anything one of Gabbert's many issues is that he often too safe with his targets, checking down instead of throwing into danger.

Going after KC in 2 leagues. Hoping, praying....

Debating rolling with MIN again, especially since I don't feel like paying to pick up another defense in ffpc. I'm quite positive PIT is turning the ball over like mad.

Whats the thoughts on the NO D? They gave up 7000 yds last year and lost Will Smith for the year early on. How are they even competetive so far?

I'll get KC if I can, but otherwise I'll just stick with NO. Tenn is also a good option, but NO is just a better team. As for the Colts, that was their first solid defensive performance of the year. I still maintain that picking them up for the Jax game violates the "Don't chase a bad D in a good matchup" rule.

Huge letdown game for Colts. On road. As someone pointed out, Blaine is not as bad as Henne in key "turnover" categories, as everyone wrongly assumes. MJD will run enough to play keep away. Indy will continue to work on their shiny new run game and stay in control.

If that's not enough, Indy hosts Seattle the following week on Fox in the game of the week. This is a schitt sandwich, made to order.

Only to be followed by a roady @ SD and then the Broncos. Then comes their bye and it's off to HOU after that.

Lots of folks eyeing Indy and it's fools gold. They will flop this week but maybe you can hold them for their next good matchup in week 10.

I`ll throw another out there. I like Tampa Bay at home against Arz. Their offense is bad, but their D is pretty good. It is still Carson Palmer. they have a bye in wk5 but philly comes to town in wk6.

All you people waiting till week 4 to pick your week 4 defense are losing out to the rest of us grabbing our week 5 defense (because we grabbed week 4 in week 3).

You don't have that luxury if you're in a league with short benches. Or if you're riddled with injuries.

i am rolling with TEN. geno smiff doesnt hit those passes against TEN this week.

i am doing what you are although once bye weeks hit that may have to stop.got ATL and TEN which last me through week 5. next week i will work on week 6.

Who do you suggest?

Sticking with minny in london
steelers are primed to explode prior to the week 4 bye. i'd be careful with the vikes defense in this game. the steelers are desperate and have more talent coming back in the form of laveon bell along with heath miller. if anything, i'd roll the PIT defense against ponder.

Will be targeting IND hard this week. Further, I believe JAX is so bad I'm actually considering picking up STL for the matchup in week 5 a full week ahead of time.

Sorry, I would have responded earlier, but I was busy grabbing my playoff defenses off the waiver wire.

I have heard good things about TENN but i don't think the Jets are as terrible as we all thought they would be this year. Anyone see their games and think Tenn is a solid play?

I picked up the Tenn D over the weekend but honestly don't know much about the unit. The Bills got zero pressure on Geno (0 sacks, 2 qb hits) and the key to success is obviously forcing the rookie qb to make mistakes. That being said, Geno still threw 2 picks and both looked bad. Can he be relied on to make a 50 yd td and 70 yd td each week? I wouldn think not. Will Tenn be able to get pressure on Geno?

Ill probably roll with Tenn this week, but I still want the KC def...

I'm spending my #1 ww position on KC this week. I've been bad at picking the right streaming def this year and KC has a good stretch of games till their bye. I'm going to ride them for a bit.

Like many here, I'm hoping to grab KC, and ride them to their bye.

Otherwise likely sticking with MIN (who got 10 despite giving up 31 to Clev)

IND's and TEN look great for this week where available.

I can't help having a feeling that at least one D from the WAS-OAK match-up will be good, but I don't know that I dare touch that.

riding with the saints!! probably dome should be rocking Monday night hopefully that turns into sacks, and maybe a pick six or something

I was fortunate to get KC this morning, but I would consider the Rams if they are available. At home against the 49ers on Thursday and then JAX at home the following week.

Everybody should be weary of picking up a D that looks like it has a juicy matchup vs. a division rival. Teams always play tougher against a team within their division.

This. AZ looked bad coming east to NO for an early game last week. Now they do it again against a desperate team.

11th ranked defense in the NFL and thats after facing Atlanta before the injuries. They get a nice chunk of sacks and turnovers. Basically a bend but dont break defense that schemes a lot to get to the QB.
