Walking a hundred holes of golf for charity -- Advice to not die? (1 Viewer)

So I just joined a charity event that involves "playing" 108 holes of golf in a day at the end of this month.  Start at 4:30am and walk the entire day carrying the golf bag.  I was told to dress for walking, not golfing, only bring ~9 clubs, strip down the bag, a few balls, couple gloves, and that I'll be playing for pace, not score.  A lot of just "bunting" since the walking will be ~30 miles and over 500 swings of the club throughout the day.

When I first agreed I thought this wouldn't be bad at all, but the more I think about it, I'm thinking I'm going to be completely wrecked.  So, has anyone ever done anything like this?  Any tips or advice?  Real and shtick welcome.

Also, if anyone is interested in sponsoring for this as it's for a wonderful cause, feel free to PM and I can send some info.

agree w/ bringing about  only 4-5 clubs and drinking a ton of water....even if the weather is "mild".

add: bring a couple of extra pairs of socks, band-aids (in case of blisters), and sunscreen (re-apply consistently).

and i think it'll be closer to 600+ swings for you.  :P

I'm thinking 700, actually.  Do I even want to take full swings or truly just keep slapping it 100 yards and keep walking?

or you could work on your Happy Gilmore swings.

seriously though: 3/4 swings should work just fine. i'd be ok with punching 7i 130 yds on most of the shots. does the course have lots of elevation change, or relatively flat?

Unfortunately, you are still going to die regardless.  Playing 100 holes of golf for charity does not make you immortal.

It's a very flat, open, and short 9 holes that we'll keep doing.

see - I would want to do thsi but also try for score somewhat - whats the point if you are just bunting balls all over the place - just walk the 18 miles :)

Wear walking shoes.  Couple pairs of socks (or have someone on hand to bring you some every 18-36 holes).  Hydrocodone.  Strip bag to 4 golf clubs, handful of balls.  No tees, etc.

FWIW, assuming 400 yards/hole you are looking at 22.7 miles.  Have fun!

Yep. And yeah, this is meant to be difficult physically. We get sponsored for how many holes we can finish.

Finish mean getting it in the hole no matter what or can you take the penalty after a certain amount of strokes over par?

i hope I'm using the correct terminology

:blackdot:

Curious to hear how many make it. This almost doesn't seem possible unless you're already into some sort of endurance training.

What is the length of th course? That will depend what clubs you'll be bringing along. How many hazards or tall grass or whatever. 4:30 seems like a good time to start the thing. Get as many holes in before the sun comes up. Water, water, and some Gatorade. And, lots of sunscreen.

So, if we start at 4:30am and finish around 6pm, that's about 14 hours worth of golf/walking.  6 rounds, that's a little over 2 hours per round.  Walking.  Carrying a bag.  As I continue to crunch numbers for this thing, I'm beginning to wonder if I didn't just sign myself up for something I'm going to be sorry for.

Blues are 2400 for the 9.  Yellow is 2800.  I think I'm doing blues.  That'll be 28,800 yards or a little over 16 miles.  Not terrible, I suppose.

Walking wouldn't be too bad however the swinging will be a real pain come rounds 4,5, and 6. Not sure if you'll be able to move your arms the next day.

So it's not a real length course which helps but still 2 hours per 18 seems almost impossible, unless you're the only one on the hole

We have the entire 9 to ourselves for the whole day.  There are only 6 of us doing it at this point.

hole 1, drink a Red Bull.

hole 2, a beer.

hole 3, a water.

repeat the pattern until you're done. it will keep you awake, hydrated, and having fun. every round, throw in a hot dog for sustenance. or maybe a chili dog if you want to keep it exciting.

I did this a few years ago. They had a masseuse available during the day. I had a massage at the end of the day. You will be quite sore. As mentioned before, stay hydrated.

Keep the ball in front of you. Try to limit left or right shots even if that means sacrificing distance.

Find strategic places where you can drop the bag in the rough of one hole, grab driver and putter go finish hole you are on the tee off and your bag will be in the rough of that hole. Or maybe there's 2-3 holes that go out then return. Drop bag grab 3-4 clubs play those 2-3 holes return back to your bag etc.
