Walking a hundred holes of golf for charity -- Advice to not die? (1 Viewer)

Train by walking. If you had more time I'd say some golf specific stretching and weights but I don't think I'd do that without at least 8 weeks advance.

Assuming you don't have to carry drinks and food, I think I'd take the 7 iron and putter recommended above and maybe carry an extra ball or 2 in you pocket and leave the bag at home

5 iron to chip would be tricky at times. Bunkers?
You just thin it out the back and work around it.

I think I shot like a 130.  They let you pick up after like triple par.  I had a couple of those or it would have been like 160.

Grats. Not trying to impugn your credibility GB.

Did you use it to chip and putt as well?
Yes. Every shot. Was super fortunate to avoid bunkers. I recall having a chip in for a birdie and I birdie a par 3 by hitting the tee shot close

I think I recall a couple weeks later shooting 92 on the same course with all my clubs and laughing about it.

I ended up declining due to health issues associated with trying to knock out a swimming pool with my head. Would really love to attempt it though but it just wouldn't be wise.

I did donate though and hope some of you will too.

i will donate, but if you die out there, dont double dip me with a gofundme page so i can pay your funeral expenses too.

Walking 9 in 2 hours is no problem. My 9 year old joined the school golf club/team. We got to a Par 3 every week and they finish all 9 in 2 hours or a little longer. This is with kids taking 6 or 7 stroked on the green quite a lot and having to be told on every hole not to step on someone else's ball path. They can't that part down no matter how many times we tell them.

I think I would rather do the 100 holes of golf than this. I coached high school basketball for 8 years and loved it but the thought of dealing with elementary kids frightens me! You the man!

I actually love it. My son is not very athletic and he not only really enjoys golf but is very good for his age. Well for any age really. The kid had a par putt on his second hole he ever played. Sure, he 6 putted it, but he was on the green in 2 on a par 3. Last time out, he had a legit bogie on a hole. Drove it just off the green in the first few inches of the second cut of rough. Did a bump and run that put him in the first cut of rough. Did another bump and run that left him with a 15 footer that he dropped. So friggin proud!

• Don't try to swing out of your shoes... smooth pendulum swings at 70-80% all day unless necessary.

• Agreed 100% on the fresh socks every 18 holes.

• Consider changing shoes if it's an option... slight differences in shoe design will change pressure/wear points.

• Consider bodyglide for chafe points. Definitely use goldbond powder for the crotchal region

• LIke the idea of hitting off the deck when feasible, instead of bending for tee placement and whatnot

• Go for the 80/20 rule... 20% of effort gets you 80% of results. Not exactly that ratio in this case, but the general principle applies.... good enough is good enough on shot effort and planning. You're shooting to survive not for score.

Very cool to follow along... take notes and report back :)

Tomorrow's the day. Getting there in about 13 hours to start......

If possible, I'll update at some point during the day.

Amazing weather, high of only 82. It's perfect. 39 holes down, feeling good. And score isn't bad either, so far. Just changed from golf shoes to running shoes and that was huge. Having fun.....

Halfway done. 3 full rounds in 6 1/2 hours. 18.5 miles so far. And, just shot the last 9 at 1 over, easily my best score ever. Feet and back a little sore but still feeling pretty good.

Amazing how much easier the game become with repetition and eliminating the mental aspect (assume you could care less about your score).

ETA:  interested to see how the pace changes throughout the day.  Anyone drop out yet?  Taking breaks at the end of rounds?
