Hangs out with Oscar Zeta Acosta
I assume the team will be asking either Walters or Johnson to replace Fitzgerald rater than moving Boldin into a different position. The same concept as someone stated above about "why put two perople out of position" as an argument for Johnson into the slot. Boldin will be th emost heavily targeted WR, but, IMO, his POSITION won't change. And, if you watch Fitz play, there is not a chance in heck Walters can play that position. Johnson can - in fact, that is EXACTLY what he did in the last game- he played Fitzgerald's spot and Boldin stayed where he was. Finally, it is MUCH easier for a player to step into the third receiver role (ie - the spot inside one of the outside receiver) than to learn the number one wideout's spot. And, there is NO WAY 5'7" Walters can work the outside routes. You may be generally correct about slot receivers, but, in this instance, it is beyond ridiculous to ask Walters to play outside for the Cards.
Sorry but I no longer believe its that hard for a "smurf" or a speed WR to get off the line of scrimage as a SE. Your larger more physical WRs work just as well in the slot and you see teams doing it all the time. Play BJ in the slot gives you a much more experienced player working the inside of the field against Chicagos fast LB's. I think you will see BJ play in the slot at times this weekend but I could be wrong.Yes - in the slot.Speed receiver as the third - witness: Miami had Chambers and Booker outside, wes welker inside. Small speed receiver gets the WR3 hot read from the slot. How is a 5'7" speed smurf supposed to work the sideline against the other team's #2 CB? He can DEFINITELY get separation as the WR3 in the slot, working against LBs, safeties and nickels.Let me get this straight, you think Troy Walters should be in the slot ??? 5'7" (or 8) 174lb speed reciever in the slot !? I would put him outside all day and let BJ play inside where he can do alot of damage. Let TW on the outside and use his speed on streaks and post routes.Walkters simply is not good enough to be on the outside - he needs to be in the slot. 5'7" and 174 lb speed-based receiver who's got VERY little starting experience on the outside? When there is a 6/2" 200+ lb receiver to put outside instead?I don't think so.
