wannabee Strategy Thread (5 Viewers)

Hi Jeff,

Trying to lock up 1st in both my leagues (thanks in no small part to you) to avoid having to play the other two goliaths until the finals.

Team 1:

Pick 2 RBs:

Slaton (@CLE)

Jacobs (@ARI)

Westbrook (@BAL)

Stewart (@ATL)

I'm guessing Slaton and Jacobs, but I'm worried about the touches each would get this week. Matchups too good to pass up? I agree. Play both of these and dont risk Westy getting 3 carries and leaving the game. I like Stewart but he does not get consistent carries.

Pick 2 WRs:

AJohnson (@CLE)

ABryant (@DET)

Colston (vs. GB)

Edwards (vs. HOU)

Three good matchups outside of the Colston vs. GB. I really can't decide on which WR to sit. I would start Johnson definitely. I would rest Colston since he is not playing great and GB has a GREAT pass defense. So, it comes down to Bryant vs Edwards. This is VERY close for me. Even though Detroit is very poor in pass defense, I think I would go with Edwards for one reason. With Winslow hurt, I would think Quinn will target Braylon more.

Team 2:

Pick 2 WRs:

White (vs. CAR)

Wayne (@SD)

RMoss (@MIA)

DeSean Jackson (@BAL)

First two seem no-brainers, but I'm worried if White gets downgraded (he's questionable right now) and just how healthy he is in general. I think I would go with White and Wayne. Moss would be third. But, he is inconsistent enough to play the other two. White practiced in full yesterday. If you are worried about White, play Moss. Not a big enough difference to sweat the late afternoon start.

Thanks Jeff!
Good luck this week. I hope you lock up first this week.

Have THig......with garcia on wire........stay with THig? Got to win....lolThanks Jeff.
I think I would stay with Thiggy. He has been hot of late (last four games):WK TM OPP CMP ATT YD TD INT RSH YD TD8 KC NYJ 25 36 280 2 0 4 20 0 9 KC TB 14 25 164 1 0 6 22 010 KC SD 27 41 266 3 0 2 26 011 KC NO 19 38 235 2 1 3 45 0The other thing I like is the rushing yards.

Hi Jeff - saw the two of us were on-line, so couldn't help but ask. Saturday news seems to be that Bush still seems probable for Monday nite, so instead of going with Pierre Thomas, I guess I still stick with Antonio Pittman? Choices for 3rd RB were Norwood (injury issues), Pittman, Thomas, and Bush.) Thanks!

Thanks again! Good luck to you as well!

I know McNabb could have a big game, but I would lean toward Sage. McNabb has not been playing well of late. At RB, I would go with Hillis. There is one reason. Tampa gives up less than 100 rush yards a game and only .1 TDs while Oakland yields 165 rush yards 1.5 rush tds a game. I like Smith's talent better, but hard to argue with the numbers. At WR, it is very close. I think I would lean toward Calvin ... just on a hunch ... nothing more. Wash has not been playing well and travel all the way to the far NW. Good luck this week.

sorry I missed it earlier. I would stick with Pittman ... just too much guesswork otherwise with the Monday night game

I looked up some stats, and may waffle on the Calvin pick TB does well vs WRs. I think I would go with Santana. Sorry I was not on top of it earlier.

Ok......antonio Bryant over calvin? leaning......
I think so only because of the TB defense. Since week 7, no wr has eclipsed 65 rec yards. Only four wrs all season have gone over 70 yards: Devery Henderson (colston 26 yds). Brandon Llyod (6/124/1), Jennings 6/109/2, and Steve Smith 6/112. TB has allowed 9 wr tds, and only three since week five. On the other hand, Detroit has allowed:11 wr td this season130+ in weeks 6-8 to Berrian, Andre Johnson, Santonio Moss. Jennings had 6/167 earlier in season

This doesn't apply to me, but what a cool analysis...I love the logic and the numbers. Who knows how it will turn out, but I love that you are helping to make a decision based on logic over gut feel. Both work, but I sure love a plan! Nice work footballguys!

Hi Jeff,

I thought I’d let you ponder this one for a while…

I’m winning with my lineup, but with no help from the TE. Poor Daniels! 1, 1, and 2 the last three weeks! I just hate to go into our playoffs where every point counts and not have at least a hope that the TE will score a few points.

I have room on my roster to keep Daniels and still add another TE, so I’m hoping to find something this next week. I tried to grab Scaife last week, but was too low on the waiver list.

There’s not really much there, but I’d rather grab someone and try something rather than keep beating my head against the Daniels wall. Maybe when Schaub returns, he’ll be viable again, but for now…wow.

Here are the best of the lot, listed along with their pts this week. Several got the elusive TD that may or may not come again this season.

• Carlson (7), Sea @ Dal, NE @StL*, NYJ* - I guess I’m thinking Carlson with Hasselbeck back seems to get several targets a game. I thought with their WR’s coming back that he might diminish, but so far he’s hanging in there. He was dropped by another owner last week.

• Heap (2) Balt @ Cinc, Wash, Pitt, @ Dal – tough schedule.

• Davis (4), SF @ Buf, NYJ*, @ Mia, @StL* - SF really isn’t very good.

• Boss (10) NYG @ Wash, Phil*, @ Dal, Car - On an awfully talented team.

• Lee (MNF) GB v Car, Hou*, @ Jax, @Chi* - Schedule not bad, hasn’t done much.

• Stevens (8), TB v NO, @ Car, @ Atl, SD* - Stevens is Stevens. I’m conditioned to expect him to screw things up, but he’s been productive the last few weeks.

• Watson (1) NE v Pitt, @ Sea, @ Oak, Ari – So many talented offensive players, it’s hard to think he can consistently get targets.

• Daniels (2) Hou v Jax, @ GB, Tenn, @ Oak – Projects fairly well, but my oh my, the last 3 wks!!

* = good TE matchup per LD

Do any of them jump out at you as having potential, at least for the next few weeks until Schaub does (or doesn’t) return?

Or is Daniels worth running out there each week on the chance that he’ll deliver?

Thanks again.

12 person redraft, no PPR, 1 point/25 yards passing, 4pts/passing TD, 1pt/10 yards rushing or receiving, 6pts/TD. Start 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1RB/WR flex, 1TE, 1K, 1DEF

My roster: QB P. Manning, Campbell, RB Lynch, Forte, Bush, J. Norwood, P. Thomas, Antonio Pittman, WR R. Wayne, A. Boldin, TE Daniels, PK Folk, Def Ravens, Panthers, Cowboys.

If you can add one TE to Daniels, I would add Boss. Plax is struggling with a hammy injury and Boss should get more redzone looks. I like Stevens, but he has only played well when Alex Smith was injured. It looks like Smith will be back this week.

I hope you got to see my BOYS at home in the DOME tonight! We haven't had a home game in 6 weeks, Jeff I was there and it was INSANE! A night to remember and it does make us continue to scratch our heads and ask why aren't we more consistent! We will just keep working on our defense and someday the Saints will march into a SUPER BOWL!

Quick Kicker question....yes I did have a drink or two so I apologize for this question.

Nick Folk v SEA

or

Phil Dawson v INDY

Oh yeah and how about Justin Gage @ DET over A Bryant v NO this week?

Be back with more later!

Hi Jeff,

Need some help this wee with my QB spot, and one of my WR spots. Scoring is as follows-

QB=

1 PT per 20 YDS

-1 PT per INT

4 PTS per TD

8 PTS for TD 50 YDS+

3 PTS for 300 YDS +

WR=

1 PPR

1 PT per 10 YDS

6 PTS per TD

12 PTS for TD 50 YDS+

3 PTS for 100 YDS+

My QB is As follows.

Cassel VS. Steelers #1 D in every category.

Big Ben VS. Patriots

Rosenfals VS. Jaguars

My two receivers I cant chose between are as follows.

Steve Smith(CAR) VS. Packers who got torched by Brees and company.

Lance Moore VS. Bucaneers who are the #2 pass D in the NFL.

I was thinking Cassel just because I feel stupid benching someone whos been on fire like him. Also the fact that the pats running game will probably not even be seen on Sunday, so the pats I think will throw at least 40 times to try and move the ball.

For my WR i was thinking Moore because the Saints dont look like they are slowing down anytime soon and Moore looks the the true #1 there. But with a matchup like that I'm Iffy. Can I really bench a stud like Steve Smith? I mean his matchup is garbage but look at what Moore did last week. I know CAR's offense is not the saints but can Harris and Woodson shut down SS???? Please help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think I saw you. You were the one wearing the Reggie Bush jersey? I think Folk with Brown offense struggling. At WR, Bryant should get a lot of looks with TB passing to stay even with Indy

AT WR, it is close. I do not expect that type of game from Moore every week. I think he was open because the Pack played Colston very tight. I expect them to play Smith the same way. I think I would go with Smith just because he can have huge games any week.At QB, Cassel vs Ben. One reason I might go with Ben is the way Pennington was able to throw for 300+ against NE last week. Also, the Willie Parker injury should make ben throw more.

good call on thig.

thig, cassel, rivers, and ryan.....need one of those this week.

either calvin, Bryant, or moore, bradley......need one of those.

Kickers.....need to pick one i guess.......Carney, elam,Bryant, Rackers, feely, bironas........who do you like of these to keep on roster

I think I would roll with Rivers, over Ryan. Since Calvin did well vs TB, I would go with him this week. Bryant is the kicker i like this week vs NO

You are a funny but very WISE man! BREES JERSEY  Ok...got Folk.

Next WW issue:

I have WinslowII but I want to add Keller....do I drop DelHomme? I have Thigpen & SHaun Hill who both have great matchups coming.

My WR's are TO/Royal/ABryant/Cotchery/Jennings

My RB's are MTurner/CJohnson/RBush/PHillis

Stay pat with these guys and let DelHomme go for Keller --- right?

Hey Jeff, some starter questions and waiver wire

League 1-Keeper Auction League

1 QB, 2 RB, 4 WR/TE, 1 K, 1 DEF

QB- Rodgers, Thipgen or Collins. I'm thinking Rodgers but Thigpen rmight be a descent play although Oakland kept Cutler quiet this past week. Like Collins matchup but the Titans get back to running the ball this week

RB- Lynch, CJ3, Lewis or Dunn. Definately going with Lynch and CJ3 here

WR/TE- Calvin Johnson, Moss, Moore, Mason, Cooley, Gaffney, Floyd. Tough calls and generally tough matchups here.

League 2- 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR

QB- Cutler of Shawn Hill. Going with Cutler and looking for a better performance

RB- CJ3, Westbrook, J. Stewart, P. Thomas, D. Ward. Probably going with CJ3 and Westy here unless Westy can't go.

WR- Fitz, Colston, Walter, A. Gonzalez, Roy Williams. Tough Choices

In League 2 Donnie Avery was dropped, he has some nice matchups coming up, who do I drop to get him?

Thanks

Considering BRady was my first pick at # 11 it is amazing but this is an important week to stay in th playoff run!Ok...Do I keep Eddie Royal & Cotchery or dump Royal b/c of Denver woes for

Gage @ DET

Bradley @ OAK

or do you like my WR's and RB's listed above to stay pat for the run at the championship?

I did add Pierre Thomas and dropped Mr Hillis in case my boy Reggie doesn't make it back! I think its a smart move...you?

Hey Jeff, some starter questions and waiver wire

League 1-Keeper Auction League

QB- Rodgers, Thipgen or Collins. I'm thinking Rodgers but Thigpen rmight be a descent play although Oakland kept Cutler quiet this past week. Like Collins matchup but the Titans get back to running the ball this week ... Rodgers

RB- Lynch, CJ3, Lewis or Dunn. Definately going with Lynch and CJ3 here agree

WR/TE- Calvin Johnson, Moss, Moore, Mason, Cooley, Gaffney, Floyd. Tough calls and generally tough matchups here. Calvin, Moss, moore for sure. Mason or Cooley. I would lean toward Mason (if he is healthy) since the Ravens play the Bengals while Wash plays NYG.

League 2- 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR

QB- Cutler of Shawn Hill. Going with Cutler and looking for a better performance agree

RB- CJ3, Westbrook, J. Stewart, P. Thomas, D. Ward. Probably going with CJ3 and Westy here unless Westy can't go. I agree. A lot depends on Westbrook's health

WR- Fitz, Colston, Walter, A. Gonzalez, Roy Williams. Tough Choices I think I would start Fitz, Walter and AGonzo ... I love Colston, but one stinking catch Monday night and now plays TB. Tough. Seriously, I would drop Roy for Avery. I just cannot imagine starting Roy.

In League 2 Donnie Avery was dropped, he has some nice matchups coming up, who do I drop to get him?

Thanks

I think you start Portis regardless of opponent, even though it is the Giants. Westbrook has not played well because of injury. This leaves Dunn or Slaton. I would lean toward Dunn. He should get plenty of touches, especially catches.

Hi Jeff - can you help me find something? A week or so ago, I think in one of these posts, I saw a summary of a verbal discussion held by a couple of FBG's talking about waiver wire pickups and who was available and who was a good bet. There was also a podcast linked to it in case you wanted to listen to the whole discussion rather than just reading the summary. I thought it was interesting, but I can't remember where it was. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hey Jeff

I have 2 good but tough QB's to choose from for this Thursday but am not sure which one to go with this week. Scoring is 1 point for every 10 yards and 6 points for every TD. Who would you go with?

1. Romo vs Seattle

2. Warner at Philly

Also which 3 WR's would you go with this week:

1. Walters vs Jacksonville

2. Moore at TB

3. Driver vs Carolina

4. Ginn at St. Louis

5. Bowe at Oakland

Thanks and have a Great Thanksgiving!!

I would say Warner, but Romo could have another big game tomorrow. It is very close. I think Romo since Sea is much worse of a defense. Both should be solid plays this week. For the WRs, I think I would sit Bowe vs Oak. I would play Ginn against a bad Ram team and Camarillo is out. I think I would sit Driver since Carolina gives up few pass TDs. In fact, they average only .7 TDs against their defense a game.

Hey Jeff,

thanks for the help last week; i am back for more.

1 pt per 10 yds offense

5 pt per TD pass

10 pts per TD rush/receive

QB issue:

Traded for McNabb two weeks ago, helped me win two weeks ago and I sat him (thanks in part to your sage advise).

My other QB is Rosenfels. My doomsday scenario is that Shaub will be coming back and Donavan gets benched and I am left with scrap at QB. So I feel like I need to do something. This week is our trade deadline. Have a trade in the works for Cassel for Hillis or maybe Smith. The other team may want me to include one of QBs, however.

Do you think this is prudent? What do you think?

Alternatively, Free Agent QBs available: Hill, Frerotte, Hasselbeck, Collins, Campbell, Culpepper. If I go the way of Free agent, who do I drop?

The more immediate question is whether I should start McNabb this week or Rosenfels (assuming I still have Donavan)?

How would you rank my #2 RBs this week? I was thinking Smith or Hillis would be best. I have McGahee in as my starter as gamesmanship. Hoping the other team trading might be more interested in Willis if he sees him in my lineup. yeah, i'm being goofy.

Lastly, have you heard anything about Witten's injury. I saw he left the game this week- but read that it was a jaw injury and he did make it back. One catch for 11 yds is not very sexy. But I get the feeling he will be getting stronger.

Hey Jeff,

thanks for the help last week; i am back for more.

You have a good team. I think I would pick up Hill instead of trading for Cassel. You might need the RB depth. I would drop Benson for Hill. For RB2 this week, all depends on Willis' and Slaton's health. Your three bench RBs all have tough matchups. Kevin Smith would be my next choice. If Bush misses the game, I would prob jump Pierre over Smith.

Hey Jeff

Which 2 RB's would you start:

1. Grant vs Carolina

2. Lynch vs San Fran

3. T. Jones vs Denver

4. Hillis at NYJ

Thanks

Hey JeffWhich 2 RB's would you start:1. Grant vs Carolina2. Lynch vs San Fran3. T. Jones vs Denver4. Hillis at NYJThanks
I think I would go with Jones against Denver and Lynch against SF. Hillis is out due to the strong Jet rush defense. Grant is an option over Lynch, but Lynch is prob the better play against a bad SF defense.

Pick oneJ Cotohery vs DenE Royal @ NYJPick one D Keller vs DENK Winslow vs INDPick oneAddia @ CLEDunn vs NO
Addai at RB against a bad defense. At TE, I would go with Keller. Winslow has not looked good. And at WR, it is close. I might lean toward Cotch since the Jets are playing much better than Denver and are at home.

Hey JeffI have 2 good but tough QB's to choose from for this Thursday but am not sure which one to go with this week. Scoring is 1 point for every 10 yards and 6 points for every TD. Who would you go with?1. Romo vs Seattle2. Warner at PhillyAlso which 3 WR's would you go with this week:1. Walters vs Jacksonville2. Moore at TB3. Driver vs Carolina4. Ginn at St. Louis5. Bowe at OaklandThanks and have a Great Thanksgiving!!
Thanks JeffSorry but I am a bit confused. Would you go with Warner or Romo? I am in a very tight race and need to get as many yards and TD's out of my QB as possible. Would you worry about weather in Philly affecting the pass and comments from the coach about running a bit more? On the other hand if Dallas gets out to a quick lead would you think they run the ball more than Arizona would?Which game do you think will be more of a shoot out? Thanks again. Cheers!!

Thanks, Jeff. I went with your advice and picked up Hill. I didn't realize Hill has been so solid with good upcoming matchups. Picking him up in exchange for the drama that was McGahee and his crummy upcoming matchups instead of giving up a #2 RB was definitely the way to go. I certainly feel better about this. However, I still am waffling on whether to go with McNabb or Rosenfels. I suppose this may come down to a gut feeling here as to how McNabb will respond? The Shark Pool seems to think Donovan will do well. Not having seen the games makes it tough.BTW, thanks for the compliment on the 5-6-1 team. If only Brady had not gone down..... Yes, i am one of those teams.

sorry for the confusion ... I think I would go with Romo because the Cowboys face the Seahawks who have given some huge games to QBs. I think the AZ/Philly game will be more of a shootout, but Westbrook is still limited so the Eagles will get good pressure on Romo. This is a game that the Eagle defense could shine. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving.

I think Sage has a huge game this week.

Hi Jeff,

Really at a loss this week. Playoff time in one of my leagues, and the Eagles playing Thursday is worrying me a bit.

Standard scoring (6/TD, 1/10yd rush/receive, -2/FL, non-PPR):

Pick 2 RBs:

Jacobs (@WAS)

Slaton (vs. JAC)

Westbrook (vs. ARI)

Stewart (@GB)

Both Jacobs and Westy are Questionable, but I only have to make a decision on Westy right now b/c of the Thursday start. Neither matchup is particularly appetizing, either, though I think Jacobs will have less trouble than Westy. Slaton should get touches with Green on IR, so I suppose I need to start him.

Pick 2 WRs:

AJohnson (vs. JAC)

Edwards (vs. IND)

Colston (@TB)

ABryant (vs. NO)

Johnson vs. JAC is a no-brainer here. Of the other 3, Bryant has the best matchup, Colston disappears for stretches, and Edwards has Anderson throwing to him again but Indy's D doesn't give up much to WRs. Or do I try to pick up a WR off FA/W, like Ginn (@STL) or Anthony Gonzalez (@CLE)?

Thanks in advance, Jeff, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi Jeff,

I have another plan, and I wonder if I can get your thoughts…

I’m doing well so far, have a good lineup, and the chips have fallen my way several times. I’m in our playoffs, and want to do whatever I can to optimize my chances if luck turns on me!

So here are the three things I’m considering.

1. Changing my backup QB to Collins. Peyton is awesome, and barring anything unfortunate, he’s solid throughout our playoffs. But if he should get injured, I’m not as comfortable now with Jason Campbell as my starter. So I’m considering swapping Campbell out for Collins. Other options are Rosenfels, Edwards, Hill, Flacco, and Fitzpatrick. Sorgi is also an interesting option in that if Manning did get hurt, Sorgi would seem to be an instant plug-in to a great offense, but I’m not sure how long it would be til the rust falls off.

Any thoughts? Sit tight? Swap? Who?

2. Changing my backup RB to Fred Jackson. I feel great with Forte and Lynch, and with Bush/Thomas, I feel like I have a solid RB3 for the first time in a long time. Now my thought is to swap out Norwood for Fred Jackson. Here’s my logic and their stats.

Norwood 73 rushing, 394 yds, 5.4 avg, 2 TD, and 25 passes, 253 yds, 10.1 avg, and 1 TD

Jackson 81 rushing, 353 yds, 4.4 avg, 1 TD, and 25 passes, 210 yds, 8.4 avg, and 0 TD

Pretty close, Norwood a little better. But with Lynch as one of my top 2 RB’s, it seems like if I get Jackson, then I’d have a second built in backup, and one that could step in and deliver. (Thomas for Bush is the other).

Again...any thoughts? Sit tight? Swap?

3. I’m inclined to sit tight with just two WR’s. I have two great ones in Wayne and Boldin, and there just doesn’t seem to be much out there. Maybe NYG Hixson with Burress’ woes, or Davone Bess with Camarillo out? And I am worried about Arizona clinching early and sitting down Boldin. That plus any injury would require immediate waiver wire help.

The options are players such as these: Bryant Johnson, Hester, Bess, Bradley, Shaun McDonald, Brandon Jones, Deion Branch, Rashied Davis, Jason Hill, Mark Clayton, Ike Hilliard, Steve Smith, Koren Robinson, Malcom Floyd and a host of others. None it seems to me are markedly better than the others, so if I had to get one, I feel like I might as well wait and hope.

Sound like a reasonable approach?

12 person redraft, no PPR, 1 point/25 yards passing, 4pts/passing TD, 1pt/10 yards rushing or receiving, 6pts/TD. Start 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1RB/WR flex, 1TE, 1K, 1DEF

My roster: QB P. Manning, Campbell, RB Lynch, Forte, Bush, J. Norwood, P. Thomas WR R. Wayne, A. Boldin, TE Daniels, Boss, PK Folk, Vinatieri, Def Ravens, Panthers.

Thanks, Happy Thanksgiving to you. At RB, I would sit Westbrook this week. He has not scored a TD for several weeks. At this point, I would look at Slaton and Jacobs. Jacobs practiced without restrictions today. At WR, Johnson is a given. At WR2, I think I would choose Bryant over Edwards, but it is close. If you need a big game, use Edwards with Anderson back under center. But, I expect Bryant to have a good game. You are right that Indy gives up little to WRs. They do not give TDs to WRs. I think TB plays well this week.

I would not consider any other QB other than Hill or Sage for your backup if you want to ditch Campbell. Collins does not throw enough to be viable for fantasy. I like the Sorgi option, but it might take a week or two.

I like the move. I am a huge Norwood fan, but Jackson could help you more. Neither will start unless someone gets hurt. If it is Lynch, then Jackson could be decent.

Again...any thoughts? Sit tight? Swap?

I agree. The guy to watch is Bradley, but he is nicked up. The rest should be available if/when needed.
