wannabee Strategy Thread (4 Viewers)

For the dynasty owners, check out the Dynasty Shopping Mall this week and next. If not a subscriber, FBG will open it up soon after the season is over (this is a prediction based on past). I have broken down the skill positions for all of the NFL teams, with the AFC this week and NFC next. Warning, they are very long. But, contracts and situations are the focus. I did learn a lot.

Let me know what you think.

Hi Jeff

I have a couple of questions for my Championship game

I need two of these RB's to come through for me this week. I am starting Williams against the Gmen but for RB 2 I am trying to decide between Portis, D.Foster and Sammy Morris. Who do you prefer?

my second question is for defense, Should I go with my main stay the Tennessee Titans or the NY jets with the easier match up?

Thanks as always Jeff

this is NFL.com non PPR scoring

Hi Jeff - Two quick ones!

I had Marvin Harrison pencilled in to my lineup, but now that he's out do I go with Berrian as my WR3, or do I pick up Lance Moore off the waiver wire as Bush is out and when he's gone, Moore seems to play better?

Also, would you go with Thigpen or Matt Ryan? Thigpen should be dumping the ball all day to Gonzo (also on my team), whereas Ryan may not have as many opportunities thanks to Turner and ADP pounding the ball all day long.

Leaning Moore and Thigpen - this is for the Super Bowl! Thanks !!

Which QB should i start: 1pt for 25 yards passing, 6 pts for TD pass.

P. Manning @ JAX

P. Rivers @ TB

Who should i start of the following: 1pt 10 yards rush/pass, 0.5pt for reception, 6pt for TD rush/reception.

Reggie Bush @ DET

Marvin Harrison @ JAX

Jerious Norwood @ MIN
I like Peyton, even though the Jags play him tough. The Colts have a lot to play for. On the flex, I like Bush ... but worry he is hurt. Last I saw was that they may hold him out the rest of the year. If he is out, you almost have to go with Marvin because of the strength of the Minny run defense.
Thanks Jeff. The thing i'm worried about is that the Colts play on Thursday, so i got to some how figure out if Bush is gonna play by tomorrow.
UPDATE:Bush out for season

Harrison questionable with a Hammy injury

May be left with Norwood.
 Now im in deep trouble. Bush is OUT, Marvin Harrison is also OUT. I got some other players i could use as my flex who i didn't talk about because in general they suck, but thats all i have left now. Here's my choices for flex.

Jerious Norwood @ MIN

Ladell Betts vs. PHI

Edgerrin James @ NE

Norwood is the only guy likely to get consistent work right? Still start him over Betts and James?

for defense, I like the Jets. Even Balt defense could score well against the Pitt offense. Seattle is not strong on offense. For RB2, I like Foster if Gore does not play. If Gore plays, I would go with Morris. I take the wash offense as already mailed it in. Good luck this week.

With TJax at QB, I do not like Berrian. He only had one catch last week. Moore should be decent without Bush as you mentioned. At QB, I like Thigpen. His rushing yards have helped the last few weeks. Been over 20 yards every week.

I like Norwood over those two. I do not know if Fred Jackson or DeShaun Foster are available. If so, both are better options. Also, if Forte does not practice by Fri or Sat, might consider Adrian Peterson (chi)

Hi Jeff,

I have what I think is my last hypothetical for you this year!

I have Fabulous Matt Forte, and expect great things from him on MNF. But should we get news in the next day or so that his toe has turned out like Marion Barber's, I’m trying to anticipate a fill in.

Options are Adrian Peterson, his backup in Chicago, and DeShaun Foster from SF.

Gore's status is still uncertain at this time. Even if he plays, and since SF's season is pretty well in the dumper, some folks seem to think that Gore won't play very much and that Foster may get the bulk of the carries against a weak Rams defense.

The other option is to play Peterson instead of Forte against the Pack. I just don't know much about this AP, so wonder if plugging him in holds much potential?

So there you go!

1. What do you hear about Forte's toe?

2. If it's bad news, do you like playing Peterson or Gore, or does that all depend on Gore's status?

Thanks again.

12 person redraft, NO PPR, 1 point/25 yards passing, 4pts/passing TD, 1pt/10 yards rushing or receiving, 6pts/TD. Start 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1RB/WR flex, 1TE, 1K, 1DEF

I would pick up Peterson. He was productive at the end of last season. The issue is that the Bear game is on Monday night so your options are limited at that point. It would be too late to start Foster at that point.

Hey Jeff

Need some help to decide which team defence to go with as we only carry 1 and currently I have Minnisota who plays at home vs Atlanta. Do I go with them or drop them for one of the following D's thats available on waivers:

1. TB

2. Dallas

3. Indy

4. Seattle

5. Jacksonville

6. Carolina

7. San Fran

8. Buffalo

9. SD

10. Houston

11. New Orleans

We get 1 point for sacks, fumble recovery, interceptions and 6 pts for TD's.

I need all the points that I can get. Thanks.

Jeff,

Thanks to some of your great calls (and one only slightly damaging miscall) I managed to snag the championship in one league! sorry ....

In the other, I'm in the consolation game to get my buy-in back (against the highest scoring team in the league no less; the 5 and 7 seeds are playing for the title--go fig).

Standard scoring, non-PPR.

Pick 2 WRs

Antonio Bryant (vs. SD)

Randy Moss (vs. ARI)

White (@MIN)

Wayne (@JAC)

DeSean Jackson (@WAS)

I think I'm pretty set in my lineup and was planning to start Bryant and Moss because of their great matchups, but I'm worried about how well Antonio Bryant will do if Griese gets the start instead of Garcia.

Again, thanks for all your help this year.
I would start Bryant until he has a clunker. Would be tough to bench White, but those two are the best matchups. Bryant has been on fire with both Griese and Garcia.
Jeff, quick hit:Does Harrison's injury and out status upgrade Wayne over either Bryant or Moss, do you think?

Thanks!

Jeff

One quick question please:

In terms of my QB (Warner or ROMO) how long would you wait untill to check the weather conditions for the New England game. Do I give it till about 8 pm Saturday to decide who to go with regarding checking the weather.

If at that time the weather in New England calls for 50% or more for snow or rain do I go with Romo?

If its less than 50% do you go with Warner? Whats your call?

Also what site has the best weather forcast? It realy does bite having both QB's play on differant days. Thanks again for all your input.

Howdy Jeff - Well, I made it to the champeeonship to which I must give you partial credit - thanks for the advice this year.

Last question of the season - who do you got Michael Turner at the Vikes or SJax vs 49ers? I already have Pierre at the Lions, but having a hard time with the other options.

Thanks again! Have a great Christmas and New Year - See you FF 2009

no. stay with the other two. Peyton only has 0 or 1 tds in four of last five against Jax

I would give it until Sat kickoff with Dallas. I go to weather.com for the most part. If Boldin sits, I would just go with Romo. More will be known by then

Thank you. I would roll with SJax. Turner might play well, but I think Jackson is a better bet for a monster game. Pierre is a great play this week.

Hi Jeff,

Just saw in one of the forums that Boldin may not play this weekend. Crummers!

I'm looking for alternates just in case.

I figure the top two choices on my waiver wire are Domenik Hixon v Carolina and Devin Hester v GB. At this point, I'll probably go with Hixon unless you have some insights!

Other WW options are Amani Toomer v Carolina, Mark Bradley v Miami, Josh Reed @ Denver, Mark Clayton @ Dallas, and Bryant Johnson @ St Louis. This is a pretty inconsistent group.

No PPR - any suggestions?

Thanks again.

I think it is hixon who has the better shot at a big game.

Westy, Turner, Slaton......thinking about sitting Turner......ur thoughts?

Also: Thanks for ALL the GReat advice this year Jeff!!!!

Have always been a believer in the "never sit your studs" strategy, and have managed to not sit Tomlinson all year. However, I have Foster, Benson, Lewis on the bench and am tempted to sit LT, primarily leaning toward Foster if Gore is out. Talk me off the ledge or give the push I need.

Foster has a great matchup, but I think Mike Robinson gets the short yardage carries. Also, on the TB defense, remember how Carolina (both) and Mike Turner have gashed the Buc run defense the last couple of weeks. In fact, over the last four weeks, the TB run defense has given up 157 yards and 1.3 TDs/game. I think I would go with LT. BTW, that is 22 more yards/game than the Rams (who Foster would face).

I think I am stuck with Warner. He is all I got and the waiver wire has only:

Tav Jax

Fitzpatrick

Delhomme

Orlovsky

Orlovsky seems to have the best shot against NO and I have a hunch on him in this game, but...

...how do I not start Warner?

Also, pick one RB: Sammy Morris, Chris Johnson, Foster

Pick two WR: Moss, Evans, Edwards, Bruce

I agree. Have to start Warner. If not him, Orlovsky has the best shot at a good game ... but not like WarnerAt WR, I like Moss and Bruce, assuming it is Randy MossAt RB, I like either Morris or Johnson. I think I would go with Morris against a bad AZ defense .. but close and tough to sit CJohnson

Hey Jeff

Need some RB advice please. Need to start 1 between:

1. Lynch at Denver

2. Driver at Chicago

3. Foster at St. Louis

Thanks.

Hey Jeff

Also need to start 1 WR out of these 3 in a non ppr league:

1. Driver at Chicago

2. Moore at Detroit

3. Breaston at New England

Thanks..

Hey JeffAlso need to start 1 WR out of these 3 in a non ppr league:1. Driver at Chicago2. Moore at Detroit3. Breaston at New EnglandThanks..
This comes down to Moore in a dome or Breaston in the elements. Normally, I would love Breaston with Boldin probably sitting, but the weather is a concern. Latest weather report has NE with 50% chance of rain and snow chancesand winds of 20 mph. I also think Moore has a big game with Bush hurt.I would prob go with Breaston unless worried about weather.

Hey JeffNeed some RB advice please. Need to start 1 between:1. Lynch at Denver2. Driver at Chicago3. Foster at St. LouisThanks.
Lynch or Driver. Both have great defenses. If Lynch is healthy tomorrow, I think you start him.
Hey JeffI meant:1. Lynch at Denver2. Grant (not Driver) at Chicago3. Foster at St. LouisThanks
no problem .. I still like Lynch if he is healthy enough to start/play.

My league has a QB/WR flex spot and I have Warner in right now. Would you consider Ocho or Berrian over him?

PPR, 1/10 rush/rec, 6 pt rush/rec TDs

1/25 pass, 4pt pass TDs

-1 all turnovers

Thanks..

Jeff,

I'm having problems with my flex position. I've got a good team, but some tough match-ups this week. Would you please help me out?

Available to use is:

RB -- CJohnson, Portis, PThomas, DFoster, Barber, Choice,

QB -- Boldin, Berrian, BEdwards, DJackson

I need to start at least 2 RBs; 2 WR, and 1 RB/WR.

I'm concerned with CJohnson facing the PITTSBURGH defense. With that in mind, who would you start?

Ugh! Two tough decisions this week I need help with.

Chris Johnson vs. Pit or Grant vs. Chi. I don't really like either matchup very much but I am leaning toward Grant right now.

McNabb vs. Wash or Rodgers vs. Chi. I'm worried about the cold. Weather is showing neg. temperatures in Chicago on Monday night and I would think this would have to have some effect on Rodgers.

Also as a side note, my oppenent dropped 31 pts on me Thurs night by starting Jones-Drew and Rhodes so I have a little of an uphill battle but definately don't want to start someone who will get me under 10pts.

Thanks

I'll see if you're around Sunday afternoon :(

Here's my mid-game dilemma.

Scoring is: all TDs are worth 6.

Starting at 50 yards rushing, there's a 1 point bonus for each 25 yards.

Starting at 50 yards receiving, there's a 1 point bonus for each 25 yards.

FOR WR ONLY, starting with the 6th catch, there's a 1 point bonus for each catch.

I'm currently down 10 points.

My opponent has just Donald Driver left.

I have Rodgers at QB and then have to pick 2 of the following 4 (at least 1 WR):

Jacobs (who is now starting) vs Carolina

Forte (who is questionable officially but looks like he's playing) vs Green Bay

Steve Smith (Carolina) vs the Giants

Greg Jennings (GB) vs the Bears

:bag:

Right now I've got Forte and Smith in, figuring that if Forte proves to be hurt I'll just slide in Jennings. Is Jacobs (with the even looming knee) a better choice than these?

Thanks!

Hey Jeff, finished first in the regular season this year in my first ever auction league but unfortunately lost in the first week of the playoffs. Looking for some help on my keepers.

12 team H2H Auction League

$200 salary

Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR/TE, 1 K, 1 DEF

Can keep 3 players for up to 3 years

5 player rookie taxi squad and players can be activated for 5 year contracts($10/yr for first rounders, $5/yr for 2nd, etc)

I already activated Chris Johnson from my rookie squad for $10/yr. I also have Malcolm Kelly, Early Doucet and Josh Johnson as my other rookies.

I am pretty much set on two of my players. Keeping Rodgers at $3 because he is so cheap and should only improve as long as he stays healthy. My other keeper is Calvin Johnson for $20.

I am having some trouble with my next keeper. I have Lynch at $48 and Randy Moss at $40. Lynch had a good year but was a bit of a disappointment but should rebound. Moss killed me at the first of the year but finished very nicely. I am thinking of keeping Lynch and hoping to get Moss back at a lower price. There is not really anyone else on my team worth keeping.(Lance Moore at $3) Should I try to trade one of Lynch or Moss? Thanks

Jeff - I wanted to add mine to the list of thank-you's. You are a patient man, and taking time to check on our questions so frequently is amazing. It's easy to see that in your own way, you and your house definitely "serve".

I think I would keep Moss and trade Lynch. Moss should have a good season with Brady back. As a Lynch and Moss owner this year, I can say that Lynch frustrated the dickens out of me with so many average fantasy games. Plus, we know that Moss has a high ceiling.

lol no worries, I won my league anyway in spite of my magical ability to bench the wrong guy at the last minute (went Forte/S Smith which while inferior to Jacobs/Jennings wasn't enough to cost me the title). Glad you've been around to help so many folks :lmao: -QG

Hey I'm in a deep 12 team dynasty, TD's 6 1 Point per 25 passing and -2 INT's and it's a PPR league.

I may be able to aquire 1.2 and Big Ben for 1.9 and Peyton Manning. Other QB's include Leinart and Stanton etc.

My QB's now are Peyton and Rivers, so Rivers and Big Ben may be suitable next year.

My WR's are AJ, Fitz, Evans, Cotchery, Holmes, S. Rice, then a bunch of other guys.

Would you make this trade or stay put?
