Washing machine repair. Spin cycle not working well. (1 Viewer)

Clothes are pretty wet at the end of the cycle. Sometimes are way worse than others.

Spin cycle works but it doesn't sound like it's going as fast as it should.

I did some research and common causes are broken motor coupling or balancing springs. I turned the machine over today and took a look, everything seems okay.

What is my next step to diagnose the problem?

 
Does it have a filter? My front loader has a filter that needs to be cleaned every 6 months, otherwise the water doesn't drain as well as it should and the clothes are still pretty wet coming out of the washer.

 
I've dealt with something similar. Started with fairly damp clothes after full cycle was done. Then, really damp. Then, no water draining. Called an appliance repair guy. He flipped it over, and found one of my kids' socks in there. Apparently, it had worked itself underneath the spinner, and then got stuck in the drain.

It has to have a filter. I have a top load. I'll have to look. Was yours a drain tube filter, or a tube filter?

Not sure why I didn't think of this. Since the performance seems random, I'm guessing something might be caught under the agitator. Thanks.

Mine is just a twist in filter behind a little door at the bottom front of the machine. Just twist (think fridge filter), pull out and clean then twist back into place.

I had something go through all the way to the pump once.

Maybe this. Belts are underneath and very easy to replace.Just went through a repair of my 15 yo top loading Maytag. Seal under drum finally wore out and water started corroding the sleeve bearing causing friction (insert lube joke here) and stopping the transmission so no spin. Paid $300 to get it repaired, but it'll last another 15 years. If you can fix an older washer do it. Repair guy told me all washers these days are expected to major fail in some way in 3-5 years.

Update? Ours is doing the same thing randomly, so I'm curious to know if you found a fix.

Took the agitator out today, nothing stuck below. Turned the entire thing over again and looked in the main discharge line that runs from the tub to the pump, and it was clear. I didn't find any filter that would need to be cleaned or changed.

The problem with appliances is that it seems impossible to find parts diagram of your exact model. I don't know if I even have a filter in this thing.

#### I just spent 90 minutes looking at refrigerator parts because I need to fix the door-closing cam. What a racket.

 
Get a new one. Washers are expensive and a hassle to fix. You can go to Sears Outlet or Lowes and get a new Whirlpool model for 400

But these things are pretty simple machines. I don't want to buy a new washer when I can replace a $10 part. I just have to find the right part to replace.

 
Quite a few parts on a washer and not always easy to figure out unless you know what you're doing. Can't blame you for trying, though. Can always try appliance repair guy

I had an issue just like yours and found the drain hose was kinked. Most washers come with a hard plastic hose but mine is rubber and kinked up. Once I re routed it so it won't kink- problem solved.

Have you tried spinning the tub to see if it spins freely when it is off? Should spin pretty easily. I just recently had this same issue. The bearing was shot. So the thing was a bear to spin. The belt could barely turn it and eventually got worn out.

ETA: so if it's the clutch you should be able to be certain before ordering one, either with the spin test with it on or take the clutch off and see if it turns easily, which it shouldn't.

Looks like he only replaced the clutch liner and not the housing. Do you know if that is easy to take off?

Looks like he only replaced the clutch liner and not the housing. Do you know if that is easy to take off?

I don't think this is true. I read somewhere that the brake should prevent spinning when the door is open.

Just disassembled, and the clutch spins relatively easy like the bad clutch this guy showed. Ordering now.
