Washington TE Situation (1 Viewer)

What's the word from Redskins fans/insiders?

Everyone's excited about Cooley, but how ready could he really be?

Paulsen had a nice day after Davis went down, Paul showed some flashes early in the season, and now we have Cooley in the conversation.

What's everyone think?

I heard on some podcast that Cooley himself was talking about "easing" back into the lineup. Which makes sense, of course, but is kind of weird to hear, given how insistent he used to be about wanting to play, even when he was hurt.

Makes me think it's not just a matter of conditioning, but also learning the new RG3-centric parts of the offense.

Looks like it's Paulsen:Coach Mike Shanahan said Logan Paulsen, not Chris Cooley, will be the Redskins' No. 1 tight end with Fred Davis out for the season."He's earned it," explained Shanahan. Paulsen has been dubbed "The Angle King" by Redskins coaches because he takes such good angles in blocking. OC Kyle Shanahan says Paulsen is "a legit tight end now" after his 76-yard breakout game in Davis' stead last week. Desperate deep leaguers may want to take Paulsen for a spin against the Steelers this week.

I honestly thought Paulsen looked pretty good in that game this past weekend. Maybe that was just me. Don't know a ton about the guy, but I'd take a flyer.

Does it matter ?I mean, if Davis wasn't fantasy relevant in that system, do you think Paulsen or Cooley will ?
Not terribly so, but then again not totally irrelevant either. Say you're in a deep league and own Jimmy Graham this week. It's possible he won't play. And your backup TE is on bye. Now you know you could pick up Paulsen if the WW is completely picked clean. (Of course you could possibly get David Thomas too since he plays behind Graham on the Saints but maybe someone picked him up last week and held on to him.)Davis was putting up decent numbers lately, so I think it's at least worth noting. I've never regretted having extra knowledge when it comes to FF.

Paulsen could be a poor man's Celek. Good hands, decent athleticism, knows the offense.

I wouldn't bother with Paul or Cooley.

For those who don't realize - he had 6 targets, 4 catches, 78 yards, no TDs, in a part game.

Fred Davis also got 1 target, 1 catch, 13 yards.

With a chance to start for the rest of the season, I think that's pretty good for a midseason pickup at TE.

Gotta watch Cooley though.

from PFF:

Lost in the news of the Washington Redskins’ re-signing of Chris Cooley after the injury to Fred Davis, was just how well tight end Logan Paulsen played when faced with extra snaps after the same injury. Playing 60 snaps in this game alone (he had played just 57 snaps in the team’s opening six games), Paulsen had as good an all-around game as we saw from a tight end throughout the weekend.Obviously his receiving stats of four receptions for 76 yards is what jumps out straight away, as they should, however a closer look at his blocking shows that it was even more impressive. As a pass blocker he was called upon just three times and allowed a single hurry to New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, while aiding a group that averaged 6.5 yards per carry as a run blocker. His best play of the game came on a screen pass on 3rd-and-7 with 8:52 left in the first half that saw him play a key role in the team’s first touchdown of the day. Lining up on the right side of the line, the screen originally was well away from him. His blocking downfield, however, saw him take care of safety Antrel Rolle and allow Santana Moss a clear path into the end zone.
