WASTE MANAGEMENT PHOENIX OPEN (1 Viewer)

Was out there for the pro-am on Wednesday, company had a skybox suite on 16...it was crazy cold. Always good time out there.

One of my favorite tournaments of the year. I think golf would be more interesting if they let the fans do that at every stop.

I also played this course about 10-12 years ago, in 104-degree heat at 9 in the morning. Like to take out the yardage book every year and see who I "beat" on a given hole.

"Lots of cats and Cougars at the waste management open" - ferherty after the bobcat.

I had greens keepers passes... But got sick. :hot:

Great point by Phil about how they've created a front for the golf fan and back for the partiers. Raising a ton of money and the game could use some help.

The cat tails thing on 17 was weird.

Haven't they lengthened it a lot? Scores are way down.

Heard the head Waste Management guy say that they had over 600,000 fans on the grounds which produces a lot of garbage, but not a single pound would end up in a landfill. All recycled, reused or composted...that's pretty amazing.

Pisses me off how good these guys are.
No kidding. I both love and hate these last two weeks b/c tpc Scottsdale and Torrey are the two courses on the tour that I've played. At 1k yards less. And they're just so much better.

Up by two with two to go. Fowler pulls out driver and knocks it thru the green and kerplunks it into the water. Lead evaporates. Quite the bonehead play.

I saw plenty of drivers hit there...adrenaline must hast been pumping...wonder how much the caddie has to do with the decision.

The caddie was for it. Wanted to take the bunker about 260 out and the front left water out of play. Had about 340 to work with and the intention was to hit a cut. Plus he was hitting the driver well.

Hard to anticipate a 160 lbs guy ripping a 350 yard cut driver. It's a rare instance of hitting a shot

"too good."

Eta: iirc the initial reaction from both fowler and his caddie was that they didn't think there was a chance for going over the back. So hard to say in the moment it was a bad play.

I was shocked he missed the putt on 16. Frankly, I thought the draw five wood in the playoff was a worse play than the driver. I'd have gone four iron there or something at that point since that tee shot had been giving him such fits. I didn't get the five wood. Near impossible to reach and still puts the water and bunker into play.

that ball also landed perfectly on that down slope which gave a little something extra.

This Japanese dude is sacking up!
He absolutely did. Birdie-birdie finish was huge. Great round despite his putter all but abandoning him mid-round. He could have shot 64.

I get the argument that Fowler choked a bit (even though I chalk it up to just being snake bit by 17), but Matsuyama definitely played well enough all day to win and I don't think Fowler handed it to him at all. Huge credit to Matsuyama. Just ridiculous tee to green.

Hitting that power fade on 17 that well is also a good sign for Fowler...as he's trying to work the ball both ways more.
