Week 04 2022 who should I start thread **OFFICIALLY UNOFFICIAL** (1 Viewer)

Broncos (at Raiders) or Steelers (vs. Jets)?
Tough call. Better defense on the road or better matchup at home?

Denver is #3 in yards & #2 in points with 13 splash plays (TOs, sacks, TDs). Are they that good or are Sea, Hou & SF offenses that bad?

13 of the 16 splash plays the Steelers have this season came in week one. Not the same defense without TJ. Even with Zach Wilson the Jets do have a lot of talent on offense.

I think I would roll the dice on

Denver>Pittsburgh

With Thomas out, my options are Garrett Wilson or Bateman (0.5 PPR). My initial thought was that Wilson was a no-brainer, but I was actually surprised to see most rankings had Bateman higher. Is it concern over Zack Wilson's return? Garrett has gotten a much higher target volume, and Bateman has a much tougher match-up this week

It may have to do with Bateman playing in what could be a shootout against a beat up secondary. I think there is concern over zack Wilson. I’d start Wilson in full PPR but in half I suppose it’s close.

TJ Hockinson at home vs Seattle……No Swift and maybe no ARSB.

or

David Njoku at Atlanta….They’ve been good for TE’s.

Word is Cook will play with a harness. So all you're really worried about there is 1. a split with Mattison, or 2. re-injury of that shoulder.
Cook has had some monster games wearing the harness in the past. It sounds like he can’t do anymore damage to his shoulder. I wouldn’t worry about a split. It is a tough match up though. Is this considered “Prime time” in London? If so I’d worry about Cousins.

Flex (PPR) - choose 1 from Pollard, Penny or Aiyuk.
You have three solid matchups going and three players who can house it on any given play.

My initial impulse is Penny has a great opportunity against the 27th rushing and worst scoring defense in the league. With no Swift and possibly no ARSB this is a game Seattle could potentially control (I still think Detroit wins) and Penny can put up numbers on 12-15 touches.

Pollard also has a nice matchup at home and is getting 15 opportunities/game since Dak went down. He also has the potential to be a bigger part of the passing game any given week (7 targets week 2) but that isn't locked in production (3 targets total in the other 2 games). I also feel he is a little more big play dependent as Zeke could get the call at the goal line.

Aiyuk gets looks with Garoppolo at QB, eight in each on the last two games. Garoppolo also has a history of pressing the ball down field (career with SF if 8.4 y/a). And the Rams are a decent matchup too. But the Niner offense looks off ATM, and you never know what is going to happen when the Rams come to town.

Penny>Pollard>Aiyuk but it's very close so go with your gut.

Hockinson is probably the answer based on his overall value but Njoku had a great week last week and could build from it. I would probably go with Hock because Njoku might be a case of chasing last week's points. If he has another great game than it might be time to rethink this.

With ARSB out I've got a few to go with:

PPR, need 1 flex, opponent has Tyreek so probably needing upside already, thinking just take Pierce and hope for a TD given Hines is basically a floor play, Rams running game can't be trusted, Renfrow may well not go anyway and Osborn is just praying basically:

Pierce vs Clippers
Hines vs Titans
Henderson @ 49ers
Renfrow vs Broncos
Osborn @ Saints (London)

0.5 PPR, need WR and flex, thinking top two:
Samuel @ Cowboys
Robinson @ Eagles
Zeke vs Washington
Dobbins vs Bills
Allen @ Texans
Dortch vs Panthers
Renfrow vs Broncos

Oh it’s definitely a brutal matchup.

I am a little worried about Wilson's usage with Wilson at QB but he is so talented that I have a feeling they will develop chemistry pretty quickly. I think it is a toss up so I would start whoever you prefer.

QB:
Goff vs Seattle w/o ASB/Swift
Z Wilson @ Pitt w/ all his weapons
Wentz @ Dallas

Running Backs (Pick 2):
Etienne @ Philly
Dobbins vs Buffalo
Penny @ Detroit
Jeff Wilson vs LAR
Pollard vs Washington

Yes, I Know my options blow. I went WR heavy & sold Mixon for Adams as well.

Start 3 WR 1 Flex: Diggs, Adams, Pittman Jr. Lamb

.5 PPR
Goff v. T.Lawrence v Mariotta?

Was going with Goff but now, with Amon out and Swift unlikely, his ceiling seems much lower.
T.Lawrence might continue his breakout but Philly D might be tough
Football Guys primer keeps pushing Mariotta over either one but seriously, at some points Falcons going to Falcon.

Thoughts?

I think Goff is still the right play. Hard to start Tlaw on the road vs Philly, although he has been good

I think the Bateman v G.Wilsoj ranking has to do with the possibility of a high scoring game in Baltimore and the possible return of Zach Wilson. Flacco favored Garrett, who knows what Zach will do?

It really is a tough call for you.

G.Wilson>Bateman

ETA: @ignatiusjreilly I am already waffling on this call. One thing about Lamar is he will put it up deep and trust Bateman & Duvernay to go get it.

I'd lean the other way but agree it is a tough call. I have little faith in Zack - 1. he is likely a bit rusty and not up to game speed. 2. Zack did not seem to have the same connection with G.Wilson as Flacco did in pre-season and he was comfortable with Elijah Moore. 3. Jets. I say this as a life long fan.

Need one RB in a PPR:

Rhamondre at GB
Carter @Pitt
Dobbins vs Buf
Hines vs Tenn
I don't think you can start Dobbins yet no matter who they are playing. The fact that it's the Bills only drives the point home.

Hines is good for 5 receptions/game and not much more. I'm sure he'll break off a 23 yard TD at some point but he'll probably hurt you more by keeping him in your lineup trying to capture it.

Carter is still in a 50:50 timeshare but it does appear to be shifting to Hall, throw in the return of Zach and that adds further uncertainty. But he seems like a decent gamble compared to Dobbins and Hines.

If Rhamondre didn't have such a tough roadie he would be my clear choice. He finally out snapped and out touched Harris and he looks like the RB of choice when the Pats are down. That all bodes well for him this week. My only concern is with Hoyer under center the Packers will put 13 in the box and make Hoyer beat them. I think there is a legit possibility of a shut out. But I can't let that slim chance rule the day here.

Rhamondre>>Carter>who cares?

TJ Hockinson at home vs Seattle……No Swift and maybe no ARSB.

or

David Njoku at Atlanta….They’ve been good for TE’s.
I like Hockensen here by a good margin. He hasn't done much yet but his targets seem a little more consistent, the Lions may need to rely on him more because of injuries and it's a solid matchup.

Hockensen>Njoku

With ARSB out…

Kennan Allen just back from injury (if active)
Or Tyler Lockett
I like Lockett by a good margin. Great matchup against the worst scoring defense in the league. I need to see both Herbert and Allen prove their health first.

Lockett>Allen

Agree with everything you wrote.

Hockensen>Njoku

Settle has given up the 8th most FF points to TEs. Also, 9th most points allowed to RBs; 28th most to WRs.

(obvious caveat - sample size)

Lot of talk around Allen Park this week about getting Hock more involved. All 3 WRs banged up, ARSB/Swift out I could see this being a week with a ton of 12 personnel + jumbo packages, targeting Hock & Brock Wright while taking advantage of their excellent OL by giving Jamaal & Craig Reynolds 30+ rushing attempts.

0.5 PPR, need WR and flex, thinking top two:
Samuel @ Cowboys
Robinson @ Eagles
Zeke vs Washington
Dobbins vs Bills
Allen @ Texans
Dortch vs Panthers
Renfrow vs Broncos
Definitely Samuel.

After that I think you have three options.

Robinson is getting the volume and he's getting it done with that volume. It just has the look of an ugly matchup. Then again so did last week. At some point we will probably have to admit that Robinson is exactly the player we have seen so far this season.

Zeke is also getting volume and the Commodores are giving up 20 more rush yards & 10 more points per game.

Personally I don't think the return of Rondale Moore will negatively impact Dortch. He has simply been too productive to be pushed aside IMO. Moore hasn't exactly been a productive starting fixture in the Cardinals lineup. However Moore's return does add some uncertainty.

Robinson>Zeke>Dortch

Definitely not Zach Wilson.

Wentz is a mixed bag but he's throwing 45 times/game. That cannot be ignored. I hate the matchup and worry about a repeat of the Philly game but he is probably the best balance of upside and floor you have.

I love Goff, and he may be asked to do more this week with no Swift. But I can't help but worry about the loss of his security blanket if ARSB doesn't play. It's very close between him & Wentz so if you have a rooting interest pick that guy.

Wentz>Goff

For the other one I think your choice is between Penny, Wilson & Pollard.

I wrote this about Penny & Pollard above:
My initial impulse is Penny has a great opportunity against the 27th rushing and worst scoring defense in the league. With no Swift and possibly no ARSB this is a game Seattle could potentially control (I still think Detroit wins) and Penny can put up numbers on 12-15 touches.

I also feel he is a little more big play dependent as Zeke could get the call at the goal line.
Jeff Wilson is also a nice option and the one with the best chance at 18+ opportunities but the Niners do look off ATM and the Rams represent an unpredictable opponent. Most important is the Niners lost Trent Williams, by far their best offensive lineman.

It's close for me but
Penny>Pollard>Wilson

I like Lawrence. It is definitely a bad matchup on paper, but so was last week. At some point we may have to consider that these aren't yesterday's Jaguars. He's got good talent at WR, the addition of Scherff and retention of Cam Robinson make for a solid o-line, they have a running game that defenses cannot ignore, a defense that has been keeping games close and, when he needs to he can run a bit. He probably isn't a weekly 300+, 3TD guy but he has that upside and seems to have a solid 250 & 2 floor.

Lawrence>Mariota>Goff

1/2 point per reception league:

RBs (need 2-3):
Dillon vs NE
B. Hall vs. PIT
Herbert vs. NYG
Pollard vs. WAS
Javonte Williams vs. LVR

WRs (need 1-2 more to go with Chase-Adams):
Doubs vs. NE
Dotson vs. DAL
Olave vs. MIN (thinking no with Winston out)

One of the above would go in a flex spot. TIA

.5 PPR Pick 2
EE v Was / Cooks vs Lac / Hunt (sigh) @ Atl / Moore v Ari

.5 PPR rank
Harris @ GB / Cooks v LAC / London v Cle

.5 TE
Schultz v Was / Tonyan v NE

I would start Herbert if Montgomery is out. And Williams.

Doubs at WR

  • League 1 (Need 1 Flex - .5 ppr)
    • M Sanders, R Stevenson or R Penny
  • League 2 (Need 2 Flex - .5 ppr)
    • M Sanders, R Penny, DJ Moore, R Doubs, Pickens, Godwin (Currently have Doubs and Sanders in)
  • League 3 (Need 1 Flex - .5 ppr)
    • Olave or D Pierce
  • League 4 (Need 1 Flex - FULL PPR)
    • Doubs, G Wilson, T Burks or AJ Dillon (Dillon might replace CMC if he is out)

You have good options at RB IMO. Personally I am not giving up on Dillon & Javonte. They're 23rd & 19th in my league, which is good enough not to hurt your team and I think they have tons of upside. They are both 3+ down & short yardage guys.

For your third choice I think I would roll with Herbert against a bad Giants run defense.

Pollard and Hall are both solid options but I want to see Hall with Zach Wilson under center before I roll him out.

I could see Pollard at the top of this list and if you subbed him in for Dillon I wouldn't fault you at all.

Javonte>Herbert>Dillon>Pollard>Hall

The WRs are all highly speculative but in this situation I think you take the one with the HoF QB throwing to him. But Olave is still very close in my book even with Dalton. I like Dotson but he shares targets with a bunch of other guys.

Doubs>Olave>Dotson

.5 PPR Pick 2
EE v Was / Cooks vs Lac / Hunt (sigh) @ Atl / Moore v Ari

.5 PPR rank
Harris @ GB / Cooks v LAC / London v Cle

.5 TE
Schultz v Was / Tonyan v NE
I haven't given up on Hunt. 15 opportunities, 68 yards, 3 receptions, 0.67 TD/game. It's frustrating for sure but he's a solid floor guy with a high ceiling.

I am however over waiting on DJ. Baker simply hasn't been able to get him the ball consistently and only two teams throw less than the Panthers.

I love Cooks volume but that offense is just not very good.

Zeke doesn't help in the passing game but he gets decent volume and is facing a pretty weak Commodore defense.

By process of elimination

Hunt>Zeke>Cooks>DJ

Option 2:
I think London is your best choice. He looks very good and, despite being a low volume offense the Falcons run their passing game through two options so London also looks stable.

I don't like Harris this week because, in negative game scripts it looks like Rhamondre will be the first option. I foresee a negative game script in Green Bay this week.

London>Cooks>Harris

I honestly have no real suggestions for TE. I guess go with Rodgers guy.

Tonyan>Schultz

Need 2 RB's from this list of #2's
Pierce v LAC
Jacobs v Den
AJ Dillon v NE
Penny v Det
Wilson v LAR

Need a flex from the list above and add Chark in as well. Leaning Chark if St. Brown doesn't play but looking for input.
TIA

Standard Scoring .. no PPR

I can start 3 of the 4 RBs:

McCaffrey
Chubb
Herbert
AJones

Chubb is the automatic. Herbert plays early and McCaffrey and AJones play late. Do I start Chubb, Herbert, and McCaffery and pivot to AJones if McCaffrey is ruled out? Essentially leaving AJones on my bench or do you leave Herbert on the bench and then if McCaffrey doesn't play I can throw Aiyuk in at FLEX.

Appreciate the feedback.
