I drafted Peyton Manning in the 4th round in my draft in mid-August, and I left myself open without a backup. I figured there wouldn't be much of a difference between the Kyle Orton/Matt Cassel/David Garrard style backups that were drafted, and I would just pick someone off free agency if the neck turned out to be an issue.
Well, here we are.
Which longshot QB do you like most for week 1 (and possibly beyond) to be last year's Fitzpatrick/Orton?
Alex Smith
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Chad Henne
Kerry Collins
Jason Campbell
Andy Dalton
Colt McCoy
Matt Hasselbeck
Rex Grossman
Cam Newton
Tarvaris Jackson
For week 1, I'm looking at Grossman, Fitzpatrick, Hasselbeck, or Campbell. All have decent enough weapons and week 1 matchups.
With the Grossman news, I'm leaning towards picking up Grossman. He has shown the ability to compile yardage in the pass, Hightower is a very good pass-catching RB, and they'll be throwing a bunch to try to keep up with the Giants. My main issue with him (besides the fact he's Rex Grossman) is that Shanny has already shown he's willing to pull starters with no rhyme or reason, even at QB.
But to me, Grossman has more upside than the others. He threw for over 300 yards in 2 of his 3 starts at the end, and, at least in my league format, the ability to tally up yards is more important than the downside that he could turn the ball over a few times.
What longshot QBs would you feel most comfortable (or least uncomfortable) starting?
