Week 1 Waiver Wire Targets (5 Viewers)

Sammy Morris. It looks like he will get a decent number of carries each week and if Maroney goes down he could be huge. In my RB starved league, I think he could really pay dividends down the road.
You like Morris better than Dayne and Peterson (CHI)? Same situation with injury prone starters...
Peterson and Pittman are already drafted. I would rather have Morris over Dayne. I do not like Ron Dayne and will never be able to bring myself to having him on my team. Plus, the Pats offensive line was completely dominant today. Whoever has the chance to run behind that line will be a solid starter -- can't really say that about Dayne in Houston. Morris had some good games in Miami last year so I think he would do the same in New England if the opportunity presents itself. He would be my RB 6 if I get him on my roster, but I really like his upside if Maroney goes down.
Those guys are available in mine which is best, Pittman?

My pickups this week are going to be among the guys that get dropped when my fellow owners pick up any of the aforementioned players.

Browns considering stepping up Quinn's first start to this week. I realize he will probably get lit up as a rook, but any starting QB is worth a roster spot in deep leagues (especially when there is really no danger of getting benched later in the year saving an injury). Also intriguing with Manning possibly out 4-5 weeks.

Holmgren had said Burleson was having a heck of a camp & preseason & was pushing Hackett hard for #2 spot anyway. Now with the news of Hackett's High Ankle Sprain, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Burleson. I figure he'd be worth a mention.

That is my target.

I agree. IMO this is the first legitimate WW WR target this week.
:excited:They did pay a LOT for him. It'd be nice to get some return on that investment.

If you're lucky enough to have Brown or Curry, obviously go for them.

In ppr, when given the chance to start, I believe Pittman can be top 10, he did it a few years back.

Derrick Ward is in a lovely situation. I've never believed in Jacobs, he's on ZERO of my teams. If Ward can do something...Willie Parker...anyone? Of course, Jacobs is probably still a goal line Pain in the butt.

I was one of those really really high on Hackett, but in my drafts, the other owners were apparently even higher...and I've never been a Branch fan. Burleson had 1000 and 10 back in Minn, it's possible he has a good year, I wonder if they regret trading Jackson yet?

Remove Curry from contention I guess...

Per KFFL:Raiders | Curry suffers injury Week 1Mon, 10 Sep 2007 18:29:40 -0700Oakland Raiders WR Ronald Curry (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury Week 1 and missed the final plays of the game.

Any new thoughts from the late day crowd?
Derrick Ward is available in one league.Droughns was drafted and dropped, so he is available in most and I believe he's the play this week. As I've mentioned, the Giants planned to bring in a FB or two for workouts before this injury. They have to work on 2 injury settlements then will have 2 free roster spots. I think we'll see Droughns getting the rock next week. The guy he was traded for got a lot of action for Cleveland, Tim Carter. Believe it or not, Carter was a starter before he got injured in camp so Cleveland does seem to like him enough where I wouldn't think one week of action is a fluke. Cleveland didn't pass enough as no WR did well this week so I imagine he's under the radar and an option in some of the deep leagues.Wait if ya can but if you can't, Laurent Robinson. When the starters were ineffective he was supposed to get time. Soooo as expected he did nothing in the first half and then had 3 catches in the 2nd half. Once there is some visual confirmation tonight that Shipp is the goalline back, I think he'll be a decent pickup. A Stacey Mack, younger Brandon Jacobs type production. Not too exciting but something in leagues where it seems there is nothing available at RB. Often times if he can get 2 TDs one week this type RB can make decent trade bait at that instance only.I don't want a part in the Carolina #2 musical chairs.

Well, both Brandon Jacobs and Caddy are hurt and I think Mark Clayton is just not going to do much this year at all.

So, Jacobs to IR and trying to get Lamont Jordan who for whatever reason was not drafted. I should have taken him over Mark Clayton come to think of it.

And dropping Mark Clayton for Chrissy Brown. Just in case. I don't want anyone else to have him.

Burleson is my top target this week. I like a lot of the other guys that have been mentioned, but I think Burleson is a WR3 starting in week 2 with WR2 potential going forward. Most of the other guys mentioned are solid bench material with upside IMO, where Nate is startable right away.

Carter, Drew (CAR)

McDonald, Shaun (DET)

El, Antwaan Randle (WAS)

Avant, Jason (PHI)

Toomer, Amani (NYG)

Furrey, Mike (DET)

Williams, Demetrius (BAL)

Broussard, John (JAC)

I grabbed Cincy Def to play when SD has a tough match up (such as this week) Both schedules work out nicely.

I think this injury report was retracted. Curry isn't listed as injured by the Raiders. That being said, I think he's worth a try. He might pan out to be a decent WR3. He was one of the most targeted receivers last week, although it was against the soft Lions D.

And with McCown, so it remains to be seen whether he'll be as favored with Culpepper behind center.

guys that were picked up last night (in order) - 12 team redraft

brown

indy d

welker

battle

ward

toomer

crayton

This is the claim I put in, also.
So you guys are really just dropping Mark Clayton?
he's my wr4 and we only need to play two (you could play three using flex). and this is only ten team league, so there will be somebody else if not him when needed. so, it is a "safe" drop for me. rb depth more impt. now as a jacobs owner.

Jesse Chatman is available in my league, and I guess any backup RB is worth a roster spot in a dynasty league. But a thread a couple of days ago mentioned him as a top WW pickup. Is there any specific reason why? He didn't do much in the first week? And his size indicates possible 3rd down type back (or am I wrong)?

:hifive: Either this is a really small league with really small rosters, or you only start 1 RB, but I can't imagine any league where Jordan and Brown would have gone undrafted. Not to mention Clayton now on waivers too!?! Wow. Not gonna find a potential top 25-30 receiver available in many leagues either.

I think the p/u is based on his potential - Cameron seems willing to have a split backfield sitch and seems willing to give Chatman almost as many important touches as Brown. He's not just Brown's b/u - he receives playing time.

most players mentioned here were drafted in my league. I and looking at Northcutt, Avant, Burleson, Mike Williams???, Drew Carter. Pittman , Brown, Chatman were all drafted. I cant get Ward. I grabbed Chris Henry(WR) with my last pick, 5th wr. Is he worth dropping for one of these. flip a coin

Had 6th spot in a 14-team and got the Colts. FWIW, I think claim order was:

Ward (went first)

Colts

Bengals

Toomer

Wasn't much out there.
