Week 13: Waiver Wire Defense (1 Viewer)

Braktastic

Footballguy
Which waiver wire defenses are you riding Week 13? On my wire there's:

Buffalo Bills at home against the sputtering Atlanta Falcons

New England Patriots away against the rudderless Houston Texans

I like a couple of defenses on Turkey day, and they are available in my league.

DAL vs Oakland

DET vs Green Bay

I like the short week home teams and the matchups are right to exploit. Both Oakland and Green Bay starting fledgling QB's, playbook will be limited.

Same playbook Flynn knows and threw for 5 TDs with at one point?

Might just stick with Baltimore vs Pit ugh. Not liking the options in my league. Jax hasnt been a good matchup in weeks so Im not crazy about Cle.

Actually it was six, but who's counting right? And that was a meaningless week 17 game eons ago, with different personnel. This is the same guy who got beat out badly in preseason by Terrelle Pryor. Who got paid $6.5 million to leave, end up in Buffalo where the likes of Jeff Tuel outclassed him. And yet we keep revisiting his Al Bundy game.

how on earth can anyone start Detroit. Matt flynn will destroy that scondary
Matt Flynn? Seriously? Matt Flynn? You do remember he was throwing against the guys in purple uniforms yesterday, right?
the ones in honolulu blue are not any better.

Detroit is very good vs the run. downright awful vs the pass. Tiquan Underwood? really?
That was comical, I'll give you that. Tiquan is horrible. All he has is his wheels. All you need to do is misdirect his route and you own him. Gotta admit, you have a good point.

Not exactly WW, since they're probably owned in a lot of leagues, but I am seriously considering sticking with the Cardinals despite the bad match-up @Philly. They're an elite real-life D who has been fairly strong in fantasy as well.

Well I bought into the browns to use at home against the steelers. We all know how that worked. Just a bit better than my Jets did in what I thought was great a matchup.

SO I have the Bills and the browns this week.

Rams and Bears are out on waivers.......I am sure I will pick wrong so.....

Just keep in mind for those folks thinking about the Bills for this week, this is only a home game in name only. The games that are played in Toronto have usually been more of a neutral site feel to them. Also the Bills wouldn't have the benefit of the elements which should actually favor the Falcons who are more used to dome games than the Bills are.

:excited: And that game was against Detroit.

I think Flynn could finish in the top 12 QBs for Week 13 (if he starts). Detroit's been amongst the best in league vs. the run for the past 6 weeks (see Bobby Rainey thread) and I expect them to sell out even more vs. the run this week. Lacy should have a solid total yardage game, but I'd keep expectations in check.

Not going in depth here: (Last 5 QB games vs. Detroit)

Dalton 370/3-0

Big Ben 370/4-0

Romo 200/3-0

Glennon 250/2-0

Cutler&McCown/310/2-1

True, but the Falcons offense is not the same. Their OL has been terrible and they aren't running the ball very well. And Buffalo can get some sack here.

I love the idea of the stoopid Falcs having to travel to the cold shores of Lake Erie.

But this is in the Skydome - why??????????????????

They hosed me week 11 but I'm gonna roll the dice again with Jets @ home vs Phins. The being at home part weighs heavily for me

Picked up Buffalo last week for this matchup. The Falcons O has become one of the top 2-3 in the NFL to target as a D/ST opponent. Bills are pretty healthy, coming off their bye, and have both a pick-happy secondary and a good pass rush.

The comment about the Falcons is a little surprising to me. Matt Ryan has thrown more INTs than normal, but he has been protecting the ball better lately. They are scoring points also, so I don't see where fantasy D/STs are making their hay against this team.

Just a question...

Got BUF in my 16 teamer... options are woefully thin. BUF, PHI, JAX, DET...

The Bills should have a nice run to end the year actually - vs. ATL, @ TB, @ JAX, vs. MIA

Who does better this week?

Phili vs arz

Or

Nyj vs miami

I kind of like the jets since they also get oak next week

Just curious - is there a reason no one has mentioned Miami at the NYJ?

My take is to stay away just because the Jets are better at home. But Smith has been producing DST points lately and Simms might come in.

Maybe the assumption is they are owned in many leagues? Or are people staying away, maybe because of the Jets at home or because MIA is suppsoed to be quitting right now? I thought MIA would be going down in flames but they're hanging in there as a group.

I just assumed miami was gone in most leagues but if available then id say they are a strong play.

What about baltimore vs pit? Thoughts?

Ravens - they have been great at home this year. Every single game. But PIT seems to be coming on; they used to be a very good defensive matchup, now I am not so sure, they're gunning for the playoffs.

Live in ATL and watch Falcons closely FWIW. OL is a wreck. Stats bear out what the eyes see in the last month plus.

Wk 12 vs NO: 5 sacks, 1 fumble rec, 13 points allowed in a home game.

Wk 11 @ TB: 3 sacks, 1 FR, 2 ints, 1 D/ST TD on road.

Wk 10 vs Sea: 2 Sacks, 1 FR, 10 points allowed in home game.

Wk 9 @ Caro: 1 sack, 1 FR, 3 ints, 1 D/ST TD, 10 pts allowed on road.

Wk 8 @ AZ: 4 sacks, 4 ints, 13 pts allowed on road.

In my league's scoring system, they have been allowing generous D/ST scoring and they are also trending down as a team. Obviously this WW Team-D-exercise is one of much guessing, but I think starting a D at home against the Falcons is a good strategy at this time in this season. I like the Bills D for its sack- and interception-abilities so I like the matchup.

The Giants (@WAS) and San Diego (home against CIN) are both on my WW. What do you guys think about either of them? NYG is tempting.

Patriots had been dropped due to the Bye/Denver combo. Got them, looking like possibly a better play than the Bills.

I'm sticking with the Ravens probably the rest of the way. Harbaugh has the pieces back in place.

So no one likes my phili vs arz idea? Not much on my ww at all...
I could see it working out, but as an Eagle's fan, I couldn't do it
Also an Eagles fan. I do like the Cards D though for the rest of the way, although this weeks game against the Eagles who are playing great O right now might not be the best matchup. Something will have to give though.

I currently have Cleveland, but someone just dropped Arizona. I like Cleveland's matchup better this week, but like Arizona more the rest of the way. Should I drop Cleveland or drop someone else and pick up Arizona to stash and use in Week 14 and beyond

Two good rules of thumb:

1. When in doubt, go with the better defense.

2. Never rest your hopes on anything involving Cleveland.

In all seriousness, the days of the Jags offering opposing Ds guaranteed double-digits are over. And Cleveland is a so-so D with a horrible offense. I wouldn't recommend them at all this week.

Arizona doesn't have a great matchup, but they're moving into elite D status. I'm strongly considering rolling them out this week. Either way, you should definitely grab them for ROS.

What are peoples thoughts on Car this week? Are they a start everyt week def? They didn't do as well as I had thought against Mia. I also have Buf, having trouble deciding between them.

Seriously? Buffalo?

Carolina is an elite D. Maybe you have some second thoughts when they play NO in 14/16, but other than that, you start them every week. It doesn't mean they will always put up big numbers, it means they give you the best shot of scoring big numbers.

Sound advice. I'm going to try and pick up Arizona, FAAB system. Like an idiot, I dropped them last week for Cleveland and it cost me the win.
