Week 3 Sleeper picks (1 Viewer)

Short list of non-marquee players that could make impact this weekend...

QB:

JT O'Sullivan vs Det

Had a very solid game last week, throwing for over 300 yds and a TD. Should be good for over 300 yards and a couple Tds this week vs a terrible lions defense.

RB:

Sammy Morris vs Miami

Sammy has scored in each of the first two games this year, and has more touches per game than any other Pats RB. Maroney and Jordan didn't practice on Wed or Thur and will be questionable to play vs a very suspect Dolphins Def that let T. Jones run for 101 and 1 td in the opener. Look for 75 yds rushing with 1 td. Faulk will get most of the receptions.

Michael Pittman vs New Orleans

In Denver's high-scoring offense, Pittman now has three scores in two games. He has averaged seven rushing attempts, 21.5 rushing yards and 1.5 touchdowns per game. He has been utilized nine times inside the red zone, including eight times inside the 5 yd line. This should be a shootout and Pittman will likely get a couple short Tds to go along with 30-40 yds rushing.

Pierre Thomas vs Denver

The Broncos have been absolutely abused by opposing running backs this year, allowing 111.5 rushing yards, 108 receiving yards and 0.5 touchdowns per game to the position - they are the only team in the NFL allowing 100-plus yards both rushing and receiving to enemy backs. Deuce McAllister may be worked back into the mix, but I still think Thomas gets most of the work in this shootout. I like him for 60 yds rushing and 1 td.

Derrick Ward vs Cincinnati

This one is going to get ugly in a hurry. I like Ward and Bradshaw to get about 10 carries each after halftime...but I would put money on Ward to be the guy most likely to get 10 carries rather than Bradshaw. He'll go for 8 yds/carry and get 80 yds rushing and 1 td.

WR:

Bryant Johnson vs Detroit

Seems to be the favorite target of JT O'Sullivan, although Old man Bruce is in the mix too. They'll be enough pie to go around for both of them this weekend as Martz blows up the scoreboard on his old team. Bryant goes over 100 yds for the first time this year.

Robert Meachem vs Denver

Probably won't get much love on this one, but I think this is the week we see Meachem prove he was worthy of a 1st round pick. He'll get behind the Broncos secondary for a long TD and have 4 catches for 105 yds and 1 td. :X

Michael Jenkins vs KC

Chiefs are starting two rookie DBs this week. Good matchup for Atlanta WRs. Jenkins is a deep sleeper, but the Falcons should put up some points on this defense.

TE:

John Carlson vs St Louis

He won't be a sleeper for much longer. Go get him if he's available. He's the best receiving option Hasselbech has right now, and the Rams can't stop anyone. 7 catches for 70yds and 1 td.

Randy McMichael vs Seattle

Seahawks rank 27th in overall pass defense (252 yards per game) and are vulnerable through the air. McMichael actually leads the Rams in receiving yards (101 yds) this year. Should be a solid play this week.

There you have it. Tear it apart. First time trying this so I'm open to criticism. (not at work today so I had some time to burn)

Michael Bush might be a decent play this weekend as well. If Fargas and McFadden are out, he could have a solid game. If there is anything the Raiders can do right now, it is run the ball. At the very least, I think he will get the carries at the goal line.

I was very close to including Bush, but i saw where McFadden practiced today, and the Bills are very good vs the run with the addition of Stroud in the middle. Still, I agree he could be a good play if McFadden is out.

Jerious Norwood could end up with 60-70 yds rushing and a TD if the Falcons decide to rest Turner the 2nd half against the Chiefs. I know Turner is not on the injury list but he did turn his ankle last week and the Falcons should have a nice lead going into the 3rd quarter.

Bills are ranked 11th against the run, and have faced Seattle and Jacksonville. Given those teams' respective situations, I wouldn't be too fast to declare the Bills a particularly stout run D.

All very well thought out picks. I'm going against Jacobs, and I was thinking the same thing - out of hand early and a lot of Bradshaw/Ward in the 2nd half. Hope you're right.

I'm very high on Carlson. Picked him up just for this week in a non TE mandatory league. They play the Rams, and he's really Hasslebeck's only good option. Should get a ton of looks. I think 60 yards is the minimum. Hoping for more and 1 or 2 TD's. I'll take it as my WR3.

Belicheat loves to force the ball to players that used to play for the team the Patriots are playing that week, I still remember Heath Evans picking up 83 yards and a TD 3 years ago after Miami cut Evans the weak before...Welker, and Morris should have a phenominal day against the Phins...

Beliprick does seem to enjoy this, doesn't he?

Still hatin', huh?Beligod is still bringing along a green QB, and will do what he needs to do to win. He will not let emotion and personal vendettas get in the way. From all the talk, and all we know about the teams so far on paper, it looks like the Patriots will attack Miami's weakness which is their secondary. Miami, or one loud mouth linebacker, has already said that they will try to rush him, which would normally be countered by quick dumps to RBs or TEs, and they do have 2 of the best, Kevin Faulk and Sammy Morris, but after watching every game in the Beligenius era, one thing I've learned is that you can count on them not doing what the obvious move would be. They have been conservative, and they have been running the ball more.If Miami does try to get in Cassel's face, the Patriots are well suited to counter it, and that could end up back firing on Miami, but you have to think they know that and will use it to trap them by showing blitz and then dropping into short coverage. The counter to that is letting someone go post, and, well, they do have Randy Moss, and Cassel can throw the ball long if called to do so.I don't think Miami has the talent to keep up with any chess games, and the Patriots do. I see a big game for Cassel and Sammy Morris, maybe even Kevin Faulk and Randy Moss.

SF Chronicle ReportsMan of steel: Rookie running back Darren McFadden (turf toe) returned to practice Thursday, albeit with a steel plate over his right big toe.

He's expected to start Sunday. His number of carries will depend on how the foot holds up on the artificial surface in Buffalo.

"You think you see a guy with turf toe, 'Oh, it's just a toe, he can go with it,' " McFadden said. "Once you get it, you understand why because every move that you make on it ... it's pretty painful."

I think Bush is a sneaky player this week. McFadden could have one carry, have it purposely stepped on and be done.

Toe injuries can linger too.Bush and Sproles might be decent pickups/plays for the next few weeks.

A toe injury ended Deion Sanders' career. LT is struggling with it too.Agree 100%. Toes are NOT to be messed with...very painful.

Unless he takes an injection (that's GOT to hurt) there's no way he isn't at a minimum splitting time with Bush.
