Week 3 waiver wire pickup DEF? (1 Viewer)

I plugged in Atlanta against Arizona last week. Need to get rid of them against New Orleans this week.

Bengals away at Panthers

Redskins away at Rams

Cardinals home against Raiders

Dolphins (still available in my league) at home against Jets

etc

Any ideas?

That is who I am rolling with for this week, benching the phins in one. Clausen to start, I don't think this will go too well for the Panthers.

ETA: This probably belongs in the AC forum.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.I was thinking Bengals too. Their defense seemed to pick it up last week. Dolphins have been solid though. Redskins are off a couple tough games (Dallas/Houston) and they might end up really slapping the Rams around.

Bengals follow up the Panthers with the Browns. So maybe a two week deal there.

I'm going with Tampa vs. Pittsburgh. Should be very low scoring, having Leftwich back there is a guaranteed sack or two, and I've been very impressed with TB's d so far.

Tampas played Cleveland and Carolina so far. Not sure how much can be taken away from those games but yeah should be low scoring.

I think I'm staying away from defenses against STL this year. It's not the same awful team as last year; they've got some spunk. I'd rather ride the CLE/KC/BUF/CAR train.

I decided to go with Cincinnati @ Carolina. Clausen will probably hand off a lot but he will get hammered by the Bengals.

There's also the Pats at home vs. Buffalo.

I am weary of taking road teams when scrumming the wire for sneaky defenses. Anyone else feel that way?

Yeah that makes sense but it's probably an hour or less flight for the Bengals and they get to play Clausen. No time zone change or anything.

All else being equal, I'll take the home DEF, but some teams are just bad no matter what. Put it this way, I wouldn't have any problem starting any top 20 defense on the road against Cleveland, Buffalo, and Kansas City.

I was actually thinking that it was still a pretty good play this year. In 2 games, they have given up 5 sacks, 1 fumble, 4 ints, and scored only 27 points. Those were against Arizona and Oakland, two defenses who were completely blown out in their other game. I think Wash at STL is pretty good this week.

I like Washington or Cinci.

Pats would be great but I doubt they'd be available in most leagues.

The Phins' D looks like it's for real this year... I'm planning on holding on to them until they show they're not trustworthy.

Been playing the WW Def the past couple of weeks. At $10 a waiver move I'm debating between Cin and SD. Right now I'm leaning towards Cin.

Dolphins look like they may be an every week play.
Possibly, but after this week their next 3 are NE, bye, GB. Their late season stretch is pretty money though.
MIA was a nice start the past 2 weeks.. but also had easy Offenses in both weeks (they lit up MIN... but is anyone surprised?)

SD has the better schedule if you have to stick with one for a long run..I grabbed WAS but am debating getting CIN instead... however I wonder how long before CAR cranks up the crazy running game of theirs and just gives DeA and Stewart each 22+ carries... and run all over everyone. Stewart avg'd 5 ypc last week... if they get on track it could be TEN vs OAK all over again. I think NE vs BUF is the safest play.. BUF is headed in completely the wrong direction... starting the guy who was 3rd string on the charts at RB.. your #1 draft pick gets no touches... and at QB you have a career backup starting over your 'starter'... both of which are terrible.. as is the O line. But--I doubt NE is on many WW's...

Have Cin plugged in right now but just noticed that New England are still available, are NE considered a must (or should) roster DEF?

Cincy or NE both are good plays this week.Fitzpatrick is starting for Buffalo. He is basically a lock to throw at least 1 pick and will probably be sacked a few times. Last year he did not play at NE but at home against the Pats his line was 178/1/1 with 4 sacks.

Kinda same here. Have SD plugged in right now but just noticed that CIN are still available, are CIN considered a must (or should) roster DEF over SD?

Chiefs. They're top 5 in my main money league and they're facing the Niners coming off a short week at home. No way Alex Smith has two decent games in a row.

When possible I like to pick weekly DEF that are playing teams with little/no talent on O'.... like CLE, BUF, etc.MIN, SF, CAR and AZ are all teams that have talent at most positions... most of these teams are held back by poor QB (maybe MIN to some extent too), but also have the talent at other positions to put up some points if they figure out how utilize them... AD, DeA and Stewart, Wells and XXX (forget his name)... Gore/Crabtree and the TE....

I'm rolling with the Chiefs. I'm a little worried about Gore and even Alex Smith playing better but....the Chiefs at home are tough and I love their return game with Arenas/McCluster and I love the way all their high draft picks from the last 4 or 5 years are finally playing up to their potential - D. Johnson, Dorsey, Flowers, Berry. Should be a low scoring game and maybe a STs TD for KC.

picked up Washington against STL. That makes three weeks in a row of riding whichever DEF plays STL. Worked so far.

Captain - curious as to why you say that. I'm struggling for a defense this week, and one option is KC at home vs SF. KC Def has scored 14 vs SD and 15 at Cle. SF gave up 16 at Sea and 10 vs N.O. Just looking at the numbers, they seem like a decent option. My other choices are two away teams - Wa at StL and Ten at NYG, and I’m also considering TB, who has Pitt at home. Charlie Batch at QB for the Steelers could be interesting. So at least in my world, I hope KC isn't a terrible play, and wonder if you'd expound a bit. Thx!

I think you could make very good arguments for starting KC, TB, and WAS. I'd be hesitant to start TEN @ New York.

well..not TERRIBLE...basically i just think san fran offense is pretty good and the chiefs defense doesnt get enough sacks.

the only things i really consider in defense picking are:

1) qb likely to turn over the ball

2) other team likely to score very few points

3) sacks

and i dont think either of the first two apply to the 49ers and i dont think the last one applies to the chiefs. mines only D though if its d/st thats another story because chiefs special teams is great.

Mine's D and STs and the 49ers almost gave up a PR for a TD to Reggie Bush and almost gave up a KR for a TD to the Saints too. I like KC's chances of getting either McCluster or Arenas into the endzone. Also just like Derrick Johnson, Glenn Dorsey and Flowers and Berry in the secondary and most importantly, the Chiefs home field advantage.

I have a bad feeling the Cincy D is gonna lay an egg. I have nothing to back this up other than they are on the road and probably a little cocky after beating Baltimore. Letdown game?

I have a stronger feeling Washington will Dominate STL.

I just picked up Miami off the waiver wire. Already have New Orleans. I'm planning on playing matchups the rest of the way with these two. Combined schedule looks like this:

NYJ, Car, @Ari, @TB, Cle, Pit, @Car, Ten, Sea, @Oak, Playoffs week 13 through 16 are: Cle, @NYJ or StL, Buf, Det

How much of a hit do you think the New Orleans D/ST takes without Reggie Bush returning kicks for a while?
