Weight Watchers - It’s for Dad bods too! (1 Viewer)

So after trying Keto and falling off the wagon way to many times I am going to go back to Weight Watchers, just the online version.  I always had this stigma about WW however about 2 years ago or so I dropped around 30 pounds if I recall on the program.  It’s pretty easy to follow which I find is best for me.  I loved Keto but my love of breads does me in every time.  I will track my progress here if anyone is interested.  FWIW, Kevin Smith lost a crap ton on the diet.

Starting weight (1/21): 294#🤐

I asked my Dr. about recommended diets last week as he said I should lose some lb's.  He is a huge WW fan.  My issue is that I will never go to a WW meeting.  Is that not required?  Also, do you have to eat their frozen meals, or can you cook for yourself using their program?

Also, GL man.

FWIW, my 62 year old co-worker has been using it for a few months now. He wasn't obese by any means but his wife "made" him use it. He seems fairly content with it. No meetings for them.

No meetings.  It’s just an app or using their website.  As I eat I scan the barcode and it logs it.

I don’t eat the frozen WW meals.  As an example I get 42 “points” a day.

So far I have had:

Coffee: 1 point due to creamer

Muscle Milk shake: 2 points

Quest Oatmeal Protein Bar: 4 points

Oatmeal: 5 points.

I have 31 points for the rest of the day I can eat. Grilled Chicken, fruits, veggies are 0 points so I can still eat a good amount.

P.S. my original reason for saying no was I would not go to a meeting.  Same boat as you.  When I found out all I had to do was log in the app I was good to go.

It's CICO (Calories in Calories Out) repackaged into chunks of like 25 calories per point with an ever so slight slant in macros to higher protein and fiber.   I mean you can do the same thing for free with a billion apps out there.

All diets work.

Seems a good way to go.

If I were to diet, I think we'd go with ww. Curious - could you practically make this a Paleo, high fat, protein and veggies diet without using many points?

I agree 100% however my wife paid for it so I am using it now.  I also found out my health insurance will pay for it also.

You can tweak my fitness pal for that but 3 strips of Bacon on WW is 5 points.naybe depending on the type of fat.

The main criticism of WW that would be supported in literature:

  • Does not re-allocate points as the person loses mass.  You should have fewer points to "eat" as you get lighter.
  • Tends to overvalue exercise, and uses exercise as a reward based mechanism to overeat.
  • Allocates points on a daily basis rather than split down weekly, which has a tendency to result in "cheat days" in CICO type structures while followers build up a small "deficit" to their baseline and blow it all out at once.  This is the biggest flaw imo.

How many points is a LOVE IT size Cheesecake Fantasy from Coldstone Cremery?

Asking for a friend.

I just started WW too after giving up on Keto. I could pass on the breads easily, but I need the fruit to satisfy my sweet cravings.  WW allows almost unlimited fruits and this has been much easier to follow for me.  I searched for Weight Watchers zero point foods and pulled up the list of 200 that could be eaten without counting and stay mostly to this list.    I also use the app to scan other food and track my points.

Cheesecake Ice Cream with no add-ins - LOVE IT - 27 points.

This is the flaw I see...Supposedly I could stick to zero point list and I eat one of those every night.

Turtle - Check our the skinny cow ice cream sandwiches.  Smart food cheddar and Carmel popcorn.  Muscle Milk 32 premade shakes.

I like the muscle milk shakes.

Something we just tried adding ranch powder to non-flavored Greek yogurt for a veggie dip.  I was pretty skeptical, but it tastes great.  Zero point snacks.
