And I want to be a rock star.

This made me laugh. Maybe the Arena League Chris, maybe...

Panthers | Weinke wants to be a starter

Sun, 12 Feb 2006 08:03:13 -0800

Darin Gantt, of the Rock Hill Herald, reports Carolina Panthers QB Chris Weinke wants to see if he can land a job as a starting quarterback with another team before he comes back as the Panthers' backup quarterback. There may not be the clean shot at a starting job he's hoping for. If he's going to be a backup, it's been made clear the Panthers would love to have him back.

He can't do worst then guys like .

Harrington , NY Jets QB any , Buffalo's QB any , Boller , Miami QB's ,

Grossman , Orton , Carr , Vick , SF QB's.

He would probably win the starting job on any of those teams.

Except with the Falcons where they think Vick is a good QB ( dont see why but )

hasn't he done OK in limitted time? I thought he threw for 3k his rookie year.
That was back when he was, what, like 40 years old? Mr Weinke's skills are starting to shrivel by now.

He was a starter for Carolina, and his last season as their starter, the Panthers were 1-15. Rodney Peete took over the following year.

:hey: Can I start too?

The chances are about the same.
Not really. He's an NFL backup. You're posting on a fantasy football message board.I'd say Mr. Weinke has a significantly better shot.

Dude's 34 years old and has thrown 12 career touchdown passes against 22 interceptions as well as completed 53.6% of his throws.

Good luck to ya Weinke... Keep drinking the Kool-Aid :banned:

Don't most NFL QBs want a starting gig? What backup wants to remain a backup?
Not some guys. Some guys just like being a back up. Look at Jason Garret. He was never offered a starting job but he still has a couple of rings and landed himself a QB coaching job.

After playing Baseball for 10 years, then coming to FSU and winning a Heismen and Nation Championship  , it would not surprise me to see him do well in the right situation.

The only thing against him is his age.

Weinke is actually one of the better backup QBs IMO. He did an outstanding job beating the Lions after Kennoy Kennedy took out Delhomme.

You guys like to make a joke out of him because of his age, but I think he could play if given the chance.

I make a joke because of his name. ;) He probably can play, I just really don't see any team signing him and anointing him the starter in camp. Injuries happen, and if he's looking for a chance, there are teams that he has that chance.

The "clean shot" comment is what gets me. What team would he sign with that gives him a "clean shot"?

When you consider that Jon Kitna is also a UFA, there's 2 rookie QBs that could almost step in immediately, and guys like Rivers and Schaub could come available, I don't see it happening.

Vinnie Testaverde, Brett Bollinger, Charlie Frye, Alex Smith, Josh McCown, Kurt Warner, Trent Dilfer, Gus Frerotte........Michael friggin' Vick.......why the H@*# NOT?? The guy won a national title at FSU. He could be the next Brad Johnson waiting to happen.

The guy is 33 and this is what he has done in his career:

He wanted to be a starter, but unlike Weinke he realized that he wasn't good enough and settled in as a backup.

If you had time to list the other QBs that threw for 3k in their rookie year, you'd see he did pretty well as a rook.

Maybe......

Weinke= Rich Gannon....

Gannon was old when he finally got into the right situation.....he did pretty well.

Say what you want about Weinke. Those Carolina teams weren't that good that he played on. In the right situation he could do ok. I like the guy. He might be old but he isn't beat up like most QB his age.

That's certainly true.

I agree, he did pretty well for a rookie QB. However, he has a lousy YPA, completion %, and TD/INT ratio. That doesn't exactly scream starter material for a guy that will be 34 this year.

So basically he has had no chanceMy point is he took 10 years off football and came back to and became a VERY GOOD college QB.

not bad #s for a rookie in 2001
