It's because parodies are so hard. He's the only one who can do it good enough to become famous.has anyone ever parodied a weird al original? no? I wonder why.

My thinking exactly. Regardless of your feelings about Weird Al's talent at least it will be more interesting than what the NFL usually trots out.I really hate what the Super Bowl has become, and I despise the half time shows. I wish the event could somehow just go back to being about football. Since that idea is in the "never going to happen" file, why not Weird Al? He is very original and creative. I would likely watch his half time performance instead of changing channels like I usually do.How pathetic would a super bowl half time show with a cover artist be?
Why it could actually be fun!My thinking exactly. Even Weird Al wouldn't parody a weird al original. It's because parodies are so hard. He's the only one who can do it good enough to become famous.has anyone ever parodied a weird al original? no? I wonder why.
Are You Ready For Some Foosball?Whether or not he does the Super Bowl, I think he should do the next incarnation of the Sunday Night theme song.

But are they any good? For every good parody, there are at least 5 songs that are awful.Anybody can do parodies? I thought they were harder to write than original songs.I read a snippet of an interview with him that he wanted to do a Star Trek:TNG parody of Let It Go (Make It So), but he ran into a problem he didn't have earlier in his career: Because of YouTube, anybody can get a parody out online relatively quick, and someone had already done that. Weird Al said it forces him have to come up with and produce parodies quicker than he had to in the past.Fair enough.
I've been hoping for a Frozen cover from him, but to no avail. Disney probably put the kibosh on that.
Let it Go practically writes itself...
Let it go, can't hold it back anymore...
someone did, but al murdered him.has anyone ever parodied a weird al original? no? I wonder why.

Exactly. And thus began the 6 page debate on the definition of "cover song".
ETA: For the record, I agree with NCC.
You realize that that doesn't stop the FFA from beating the issue to a grease spot, don't you? <_<Exactly.And thus began the 6 page debate on the definition of "cover song".

Spoof <> Cover
Really not all that debatable.
So you're telling me there's a chance??Counting on this happening given the NFL's legendary sense of humor
Agreed. I think the NFL is missing out on this one. It would end up being talked about more than the game. Except maybe in a good way, this time. Some weird hate for Weird Al in here.
These guys must be a real treat to hang out with.
Weird Al would put on a more entertaining show than whatever non relevant group the alternative would be. You could even have the original artists sing some of the songs with him as most willingly give him the rights.
This isn't a bad idea.I was discussing this with a friend this weekend and he had a great suggestion. He said how about having a regular singer or band for the halftime show and then right in the middle of one of their songs have Weird Al appear and do his spoof for a verse or so and then go back to the regular performer to finish the song. Keep everything a secret. Instead of having Weird al as the headliner, you have him as the secret special guest. I think that would make his fans happy and would be fine for people who aren't necessarily fans.

Parodies aren't covers. So link to any of his hits that are not spoofing othersHe isn't a cover artist. How pathetic would a super bowl half time show with a cover artist be?
At least it wouldn't be Michael Jackson or Madonna
